DAZ|Studio F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 02 6:48 pm)
Generally each product will have installation instructions in the associated readme file.
It will say something like:
*Installation Instructions: Install as per normal DAZ STUDIO 4.6 zip installation procedures. *
***i.e you will need to merge the provided My Library folder into your active Daz Studio Content Library - My Library Folder. ***
Metadata may need to be updated after installing you can do this by restarting Daz Studio. Pls feel free to contact me if you have any installation issues.

As the bolded text indicates you will need to locate your active content library on your hardrive for Daz 4.6 it will be called "Content" (Older versions use My Library, Poser uses Runtime as the top folder name). The active content library is where daz stores all of the files it needs to make the items function correctly, its mirrored in program in the content tab to some degree.
Unzip your product its top folder will either be "content", "My Library" or possibly even "runtime".
If its "My library" rename the folder to Content and merge into your content libraries "Content" Folder.
If the top name is runtime you will need to merge the product with the runtime folder located inside of the "content" folder(This is Poser runtime setup type)
Its really not as hard as it seems you just need to get the downloaded product files into your content library. Let me know if this is as clear as mud or you need some more help.
:)
DAZ Studio's content library will never be named "Runtime". It doesn't need to be named anything specific in fact. If you don't know where your library is; open Studio, go to Edit/Preferences/Content Library (tab)/Content Directory Manager...(button) and expand DAZ Studio Formats, that is the path to your content library. If the zip has a "Content" or "My Library" top level folder extract the files and folders inside that top level folder to your content library folder.

As far as "Runtime" goes some products that are compatible with both Poser and Daz Studio may have a runtime folder as the top of there file structure and will need to be merged into the runtime folder inside of your daz content library. Just to clarify what i stated above in regards to folders called runtime... ;)
I am new to Daz 3d and I got a few free files. I tired all of the things listed here and was in able to get any of the new files to load.
I did get an error when I ran the installer program that can with some of the files. Windows said at the end that they didn't install correctly.
Some of the files have the installer and some are in folder format. Why does Daz make it so hard?
If by 'installer program' you mean a bitrock .exe file the error message can be ignored, Windows is complaining because it finds it odd that no registry inputs/changes where made. Often the default path location in the installer .exe is out of date and needs to be change to point to your content path. Read my previous post to determine where your DAZ Studio content library is.
Ok Folks ...
The poster asked about Studio 4.6. There is no "Content" folder in Studio 4.6.x, it has been depricated. Everything either gets installed by Install Manager, or a bitrock .exe installer, or simply dragged into your "My Library" or "My DAZ3D Library" folders, or in the case of Poser stuff the "Runtime" folder contained in either of last two folders I mentioned.
The important thing is this little thing called a Readme document. One needs to actually read it. It will tell you where the files go for that particular product. Most even give you the proper file path.
