Subject: Morph Brush ?

jjroland ( ) posted Fri, 21 February 2014 at 1:02 PM · edited Fri, 10 January 2025 at 9:43 AM

Can I save morphs I create with the morph brush to use on other characters, or am I limited to just saving the character I create that time?

#2 Are the morphs created with the morph brush distributable?  Is this an overly complicated process?  (ie is it easier to just create them in an external program if I want to do this with them)

Thanks a bunch.

I port Custom_Morph (Morph Brush) modifications between figures all the time.  You can export a morph target from the Custom_Morph just like any other deformation of an actor.  You can also port the deltas by editing on the file level, or use one of the various utilities available to copy morphs between actors.

I don't see why there would be any problem with sharing or distributing morphs you've created with the Morph Brush, unless you are embedding a copyrighted morph into the deformations you seek to distribute.  The rule should be the same here as with any morph: if it's your own work, you can distribute it freely.  If it's derived from something freely redistributable, you should be able to distribute it freely.

The Morph Brush handling can seem awkward at first to some users, based on posts I've seen in the forum over the years, but it is a pretty simple process once you understand how the tools work.  The Morph Brush in recent versions of Poser is flexible and stable, and extremely useful.  This is one of the tools with which the Poser Team has done an excellent job.  :thumbupboth:

Hmm.  I read the SM tutorial on working with the morph brush and it did tell me how to export the morph target.  I then imported 'full body morph' the way I would with a morph created elsewhere and it didn't seem to work.

Do you by chance have any knowledge of where I could find step by step instructions on that process?

Thank you.

1. Load Figure
  1. ZERO figure.

  2. Open MorphBrush and start morphing.

  3. File --> Export --> Wavefront OBJ. Make sure to select only your figure !

(See attached file for export settings)

  1. Figure --> Load Full Body Morph --> Browse to the exported obj file. Load and set morph to "1".

  2. Zero "Custom_Morph" channel in Body actor or "Zero Morph" in MorphBrush tool.

NOTE: You can not convert a MorphBrush made morph of a posed figure that way.

For that, you need to use ZBrush and GoZ or the PoseMorphLoader.

The MorphBrush uses a special morph channel allowing it to work on posed figures and you can't easily transfer the result to a "normal" morph that uses a different kind of morph channels.

Joe, Thank you :)

I had decided while waiting to just do it with Hexagon.  I do have zbrush and pml, but my memory isn't what it used to be and I keep forgetting the processes lol.

It's really just a 'hair up my butt' project anyway.  Frustrated with 'mesh intersection' rules on pose sets, especially where it applies to finger/hand/foot pads.  The feet do not float above the floor with no depression whatsoever, yet that is required when you release a pose set.

So I kinda got an idea to include morphs for those pads depressions.

It would absolutely be great if I could create the morphs specifically for those poses, so on that note it may be in  my best interest to dust off zbrush and give it whirl.  Not sure if I'm up for that challenge  just yet though.

I very much appreciate the info you gave.  I'm going to try that method now (morph brush export) and see if the results are acceptable.

Thank you.

Oh boy, I need more help.

I can not for the life of me remember, or find info on  how to create a .pz2 from an .obj file.

I have actually done this before.... and I just can't remember...

I own Injection magic, but can't find definitions for v4.2 anywhere.

I need to create injection files that are distributable.

Thank you.

Morph injection files need the morph deltas, rather than the morphed obj files.  Unless you have a utility to generate morph deltas straight from the obj files, you may need to start by loading the morphs in Poser and saving the resulting prop or character.  The Poser file can then be edited down to injection pose form, or an injection pose can be generated using some Poser utility.  I use Poser Editor and PMD Edit, by Dimension 3D, to create injection poses.  Other products are probably available, and can probably be cited here by other respondents.

This:  http://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/tool-collection-for-poser/37406

Looks like it would do what I need.  Do you think that is correct?

Yes, it looks like that one will do what you need, with a simple and automated process.  :thumbupboth:
