A few months ago I was foolishly allowing Windows to install its own updates whenever and however it wanted to install them.  I changed my update settings after Windows forced IE11 on me and gave me the much-discussed Poser library problems.  I was able to backtrack to an earlier version of Internet Explorer, but in the midst of things I seem to have ended up with some other changes to Windows settings which I haven't been able to fix.

Specifically, my mouse click and drag sensitivities have been modified.  Previously on Windows 7 my mouse behaved like every mouse I've used on Windows has behaved, going back to Windows 95.  Now, however, if I drag too slowly the mouse release at the end of the drag is treated as a double click.  I think maybe Microsoft made some changes to "Clicklock" settings, on account of they've decided their desktop OS needs to behave like a handheld touchscreen videophone.  :cursing:

This is particularly a problem in Poser, where the default dial sensitivities and preview interface dragging are calibrated at just the right level to set off the new drag-click errors.  Half the time when I try to set anything in Poser by dragging, I end up with a popup at the end, such as shown in the attached image.  It happens in PSP, too.  This is driving me nutso.

Is there a techie or Windows expert in the house who can help me fix this?  This isn't purely Poser related, but it affects Poser use dramatically.  Any ideas?  Are there registry settings I can tweak?  Anything?

A few months back I had pretty much the same problem, only I hadn't updated to IE 11, and haven't allowed Win7 to update in a while either. 

After trying various things I did several thurough virus scans on my system with MSE and MWB. After the 3rd or 4th consecutive MWB scan, quarantine and removal, the mouse started working just fine. 

The problem is slowly returning but I'm thinking it might actually be just a warn-out mouse this time. 

Anyway, you can try that and see. It does take a few thurough scans to get everything, I have discovered.

So it might be malware or a virus?  I hadn't thought of that.  I assumed it started with one of those MS updates.

I'll see if I have another mouse with which I can test, too.  This is really driving me bonkers.

Yours could be a Windows issue, but I have something similar happening on my iMac.

For example, if I single-click on an item in my Library to select it, then I single-click on a folder to expand the contents of that, I get a pop-up asking if I want to move the item into a folder - not to the folder I clicked on, but to another one several lines lower down!

This is happening for the first time with Poser Pro 2014. It never happened before, and I don't have issues like this with any other software.

I think the Poser library drag-click sensitivity issues are a separate, and known, problem which is peculiar to the Poser library.  In that case, it's a known Poser issue which seems far too often to be blamed on the user's mouse settings.  The Poser library is... problematic.  It was strongly hinted that some of use were Luddites, when we suggested that using Flash for the library and linking Poser functionality to IE might not be a good idea.  Sigh.  That Poser library has bigger issues, IMO.  A pity, because I quite like how it looks and what it does, most of the time.  I do hope they repair it one day.

 

The problem I note above, however, seems to be a different issue.  It affects programs other than Poser, but is most intrusive in Poser, due to the default sentivities of the Poser interface.

Is the mouse USB? If so I ran into a similar issue on one of my workstations.

Windows update hosed the USB drivers.... Nothing worked as expected if plugged into usb.

For me it was an easy fix thou. I just removed all the usb devices form the device manager and rebooted it. After it reinstalled everything it worked fine again.

Yeah Winblows update.....

It couldn't possibly be that simple to fix, could it?  :lol:  I will try that.  :woot:

I don't know what's up with MS and some of their wonky updates lately.  I think the problem is that they've decided their desktop OS needs to compete directly with Apple's iPhone.  Which is silly, and disruptive for those of us who do on our desktops things that no handheld device could possibly handle.  Desktops and mobile phones... not the same thing!  Grumble.

 

I'm-a gonna try that reboot thing now.

Uninstalling the USB mouse driver and then rebooting seems to have solved my problems so far.  I'm a bit concerned though, as Windows seems to think it's still working on the problem.  I keep getting the popup shown in the attached image.  Windows is searching and searching and doesn't seem to get that the mouse is all better now, thank you very much.

Re install the drivers for it and see what happens. The drivers on the hard drive are probably corrupted, download new ones.

I am on Windows 7 64 and using PP 2014.

Here, I only auto-download the vital windows updates, not the drivers like mouse or vid card.  I'd rather handle those things on my own.  I think turning off optional updates will do it that way.

Mouse specific:  I use a Microsoft Mouse 4000.  Using the Mouse Center software or whatnot.  No issues.  It is USB but I bought a powered HUB for $15-ish and have never regretted it.  Before the hub I had connectivity issues, which I feel was interference with other devices (or being in an apartment).  The hub seems to create a much more solid connection.  I would recommend trying it.

I can't recall having an issue specifically with Poser and the mouse.

I have contacted their tech support with the issue and they first claimed it wasn't happening with them until I provided an illustrated repo path. Then they claimed my mouse was not sensitive enough and to go change that in the windows settings.

I also reset my USB devices with no fix.

Basically what happens is if you have expanded a menu item to its larger thumb size, clicking on a lower folder causes that menu item to collapse in size causeing the menu to shift UP under your mouse. The menu think this you MOVED that item cause its now NOT where it was while you still have the mouse down during your click.

Its simply too sensitive.

Move event happens maybe 1% of the time. Sloppy mouse clicks happen like 99% of the time. You should have to click and hold the item to move it and the hold time should be signioficant like a second.

You can avoid this by clicking super fast but not all of us click like this. And I have heard this complaint from others using poser.
