Subject: Some Advice Please!

Tsuzura ( ) posted Tue, 26 August 2014 at 4:27 PM · edited Sun, 24 November 2024 at 11:23 PM

I am new artist as of 6 months and I need some advice on programs. I currently only have Daz with Luxrender. I was thinking about getting Poser Pro 2014 with Octane and Zbrush for my new main programs (From what I seen, you can get better work with your models when doing it in Poser with there SSS shaders)

I have done my research on all three of those but I would like to hear from people who used these before and what their thoughts are compared to Daz.

Hi Tsuzura!

All I can tell you is that Poser Pro would be a good choice but you could/should  use/learn to use a some other 3D-modelling software too. (modelling in Poser is a no)
There's alot of them out there, free or paid for.  Just make sure that they read and write to the wavefront obj-format.

Hello and welcome,

Poser Pro 2014 is a fantastic bit of kit! When you get the materials right, you can really create some mesmerising work, especially where SSS and IDL come into play. Couple that with bullet physics and the cloth room and you've got a well-rounded product. I can't say much for the hair room, as I've had mainly terrible experiences with that, but I've seen good results from others, so perhaps it's just something that requires patience to get right.

I'd advise you to get it. I have only rendered with Firefly so far and haven't tried any of the other software you've listed, but it's definitely a yes from me with regards to PP 2014!

Oh, and remember where the best place to come is for Poser help! ;)

Glen.

I'm running Win 10 Pro 32GB RAM Intel Core i7-4790K CPU @ 4.00GHz Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 Ti

PoserPro 2014 Game Dev is a masterpiece for the beginning 3D artist.

Ok, the learning curve can be steep, there are some tip and tricks needed from time to time, but the results can be very good.

Learning the light and material room will take most of your time.

Untill you master those, I would not yet invest in external render engines.
Go step by step, get the basics under control, then take the next step.

Same for Z-Brush.

While Z-brush is top of the line, it is a MONSTER to master if you start from zero.

Blender3D is free, and even professional vendors prefer Blender over Z-Brush.
Here again, learn the basics, and go step by step.

I found Blender3D and PoserPro2014 Game Dev to be an extremely user friendly combination to work with.

All I use is Poser, and Blender to morph, sculpt, or build.

Welcome to the forum.

Poser 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, P8 and PPro2010, P9 and PP2012, P10 and PP2014 Game Dev

Thank you! I was once told I couldn't sell a heater to an Eskimo... well, something along those lines but much more crude and unrepeatable. :P

I don't mean to sound oblivious but what are the IDL and bullet physics?

IDL = InDirect Lighting; it's where objects can be set to emit light as opposed to the lights themselves.

Bullet Physics... here's a video to explain: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WNQlMFTS36k

You can do that easily in the software you are using now (DS and Lux). I would recommend that you save your cash and learn to use the software you have. Jumping from program to program is not going to miraculously make you an expert. Only working with the software and making use of the many tutorials out there will. Once you have mastered a program it will be far easier to add additional tools. I use DAZ Studio, Poser Pro 2014, Vue Infinite in addition to Luxrender and Octane. I also use Max and Z-brush for modeling, but I did not learn all of those simultaneously. I started with Poser, then moved to DS and added the other tools of ther past 10 years. Just my two cents.

This is not supposed to sound harsh. Just my advice based on experience. I have seen a number of people that have gone from program A to B to C and in the end gave up because they never took the time to get a good grasp on either program.

I know I can do that in Daz, I was asking if that was what he meant.

Also I'm not buying all those programs at once, I'm starting wiith Poser and when I gotten used to that, I will see about moving onto Octane and Zbrush.

Also you were not sounding harsh :P

Pick a software that has a large following where you can get advice from others.  Most of what you'll learn isn't going to be from books and manuals.  Those are are only a starting point to help you become familar with the software.  Poser Pro 2014 is a good investment because of the flexibility and control that it gives you.  The best part is that it's affordable when compared to other programs.

Daz Studio is free but it doesn't have the same flexibility that Poser has.  In my opinion Daz3d handles materials better for Daz3d models without having to make material changes.  Poser Pro 2014 gives the users the flexibility to change the material any way possible.  For me it took me some time to become comfortable with the materials and the renderosity forum made learning materials easier.  I like the flexibility that Poser gives.  There are many thing that I can do in Poser that I can't do in Daz3d and that's a really big plus for me.   Both are great programs, but you'll find that Poser Pro 2014 gives you the capability to control almost everthing with the exception of making a 3D model using Poser.
