FREE! Or will be when I get it out of my lab. Dryad Character. Compatible with V4, with texture maps for V4. Essentially load V4, load Dryad character, conform Dryad to V4. Pose V4 as you want, then apply leaf texture to V4. (Reason to wait until you are satisfied with the pose before applying texture is so you can more easily see what V4 is doing) The dryad character is completely made out of branches throughout the model. (If you cut her in half, she would be filled with branches- cutting her in half is not an option, sorry) Comes in two flavors, sparse (shown in pictures) and dense (Very resource intensive!).

She does have a number of problems I haven't been able to resolve. There are some poke throughs on the base model branches that intersect the V4 mesh, may be a feature.... Needs further refinement. There are no morphs, although you can create them in Poser 9 and above and they somewhat work. The Dryad figure shares no mesh with V4, and I have no clue as to how to make morphs. To get around this, you can apply morphs to the V4 character to suggest the shape you are looking for. (again, seen in pictures) And every once in a while, a part of her will spike out in some random direction. I'm told this can be fixed by adjusting the spheres, whatever that means.

I've made two leaf textures for V4 so far, Ivy and Grape leaves.

Still working on PDF instructions.

Hope to have it available before Christmas.

I really like the morph but i see several issues with the skin. For instance, the pores are too large, the lip contains highlights.. the skin is too bumpy and wax looking( looks like its melting). And i see a strange black line on the lips/just above. Several things you can fix with projection painting. The highlights on the lips are easy to remove in photoshop. I recommend to alter the photos beforehand, and then texture with the corrected photos. I can show you a way how to remove the highlights. if you like.

Its of course not perfect, but you can use it as often as you like to get rid of  most reflection. The rest you can clone out or with other techniques.

I uploaded a reference card, you can download it if you want:

skin reflections

As you can see, i could have done the lips too, but it works exactly the same. It wont work with every photo source but most it will work perfectly.

I think the hair is looking good, has a realistic looking flow, though I've been waiting to see how well it translates to having volume when you add the transmaps to it.  Was playing around with some transmapped hair myself recently, and getting the look of volume without the strands looking repetitive from some angles seems to be the biggest challenge when doing it that way.

My current project in the works is an Early Vietnam Era Navy F4B Phantom II. The Navy version differed some from those delivered to the Air Force, amongst other alterations was a shortened nose cone to facilitate lift on Carrier  Aircraft Elevators... I'm going to attempt to model in as much detail as I can, and then supplement the modeled details with good textures and bump maps... I'm also planning on modelling a variety of weapons loads for it including the SUU-23 20mm Gun Pod (early F4's lacked an internal gun)...

Thanks Vilters and Pumeco! :)

@Pumeco... I'm using a 1/48th Revel Navy F4B "Mig Killer" plastic model kit as a build reference, along with numerous photo's and drawings, while I work on this 3d version... I used to be a huge model kit fan and have a number of my old models still sitting in a display case. :)

Here's my model of the SUU-23 20mm Gun Pod... this was usually slung on the center-line pylon mounts on the F4 in place of a large Drop-tank... next will come the inner-wing pylons, which usually carried a pair of Sidewinders and 3 250lb bombs each...

pumeco ( ) posted Mon, 01 December 2014 at 2:20 PM

Ah right, but nah, mine wasn't a fancy Airfix kit or anything like that, it was just one of those die-cast things.  Out of curiosity I just tried looking for it based on what you wrote and, lol, I actually found one on eBay!  That part you just did in the last render used to attach to the bottom, and there was a button on the side of the body that you push to fire it (spring loaded).  If you look at the underneath photo you'll see a slot, and that's where the part you just modeled used to slot in, you can even see the fire button on the other photo.

I remember when I had it, my dad used some really strong paint stripper on an iron gate, so I waited until he went to work, poured a heap of the stuff into a bowl and dipped that toy plane in it.  It actually worked, came out all bear-metal shiny and I thought it looked really cool!

Anyway, if you're curious, Click Here to see the model it was before I paint-stripped it :-P
Oh, and thanks for the memories!

Thanks Seachnasaigh! It was a flying Dump-truck, but one sweet machine for sure!

I've put together a selection of weapons combinations for the in-board wing pylons (once the basic pylons were modeled, and one each of the bombs and missiles, I simply copied them as needed to add all the weapons)... these were the most common load variations carried on the two pylons near the wing roots just in front of the main wheel wells... I'm working on the outboard drop-tanks next and will post those when I have them done... :)

I'll update on progress tomorrow... I still need to model a set of Sparrow Missiles that mount semi-recessed under the fuselage, and an ECM Countermeasures Pod, plus the larger center-line Drop-Tank (replaced by the Gun Pod depending on mission assignment), and an alternate center-line bomb rack...  :)

Thanks! The modelling is the easy part (at least for me it is anyway). The mapping, textures, and rigging always wind up being the longest part of the work. I got the UV mapping done last night... but took me the better part of 10 hours to lay everything out and I'm looking at probably 3 days of work to create the textures for it and another couple to get it rigged, and that's just the aircraft itself... I still need to do the same for the weapons sets...

Here are 2 ; the completely out of symmetry of the object file, and now the "painting" of the individual Joints.

**Example :
**I already UNPAINTED the collars and the shoulders in "Twist" from the Weightmap.
You do not want the cape to deform when the upper arms are twisted.

You want the cape to follow the shoulders in Bend and in Forward-Backwards, but you do not want the cape to deform in Twist.

I've been working on getting the Phantom textured... I've gotten it about 1/2 finished and I figured I'd post a few pics of my progress so far. To give decent detail on the textures I've had to split it into multiple texture maps and it's taking me a bit to get everything done as I'm trying to do the model justice. I put the weapons on it temporarily, but haven't mapped them yet (nothing is rigged so they were just manually parented) and applied some basic textures to the material zones for them to go along with the textures on the aircraft...

I've "dirtied up" the textures as I work on them, to give the Phantom some weathering like you'd see on a serving combat aircraft rather than the "clean" look you'd see in a museum aircraft. Eventually the weapons sets will have full textures as well and will have some weathering applied to match that on the Phantom.

Thanks for the quick site mail and for pointing out that typo on the textures... I've fixed it up and will post an update set of pics soon... I'm just working on the cockpit and internal textures now so I'll have a few cockpit close-ups to post as well shortly...
