Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 21 6:06 am)
thanks, Normal Space does the job - at least partially. The remaining issues:
- the (additional) rotation of objects due to PointAt is not communicated to Octane (as the xyz-Rotate values in Poser don't change either). So the spot following the character will not communicate its rotation to Octane, and hence will not rotate the emitter in Octane. But also ... when I move an eyetarget through the scene, the eyes will follow ... in Poser, but not in Octane. I have to inverse-handle the PointAt, can do, but good to be aware.
- when I pick the emitter in the Hierarchy panel, and alter its parent (from spotlight to Universe), the xyz-Rotate and xyz-Tran value will adjust. However the Octane render does not adjust immediately. This is why my earlier tests on Normal Space were unsuccesful. After reselecting the emitter in Poser, the adjustments are communicated and the Octane render restarts with the emitter pointing in the right direction. Good to be aware of this too.
And ... thanks to Wim, the light itself is redirected as well.

Firstly - make sure you tick "Refresh Geometry Each Frame" when rendering the animation - so ensure the new rotations/positions of objects are loaded into Octane.
- the (additional) rotation of objects due to PointAt is not communicated to Octane (as the xyz-Rotate values in Poser don't change either). So the spot following the character will not communicate its rotation to Octane, and hence will not rotate the emitter in Octane. I found "Point At" objects where rotated correctly in Octane - although you need to do Refresh if you move the source of the rotation. For example, select Andy's head, and Point At the main camera, and when you move the camera and refresh the Octane scene, Andys head is aligned correctly. I tried to Point At a spotlight to a figure, but then when I moved the figure, the light didn't move - so there might be an issue in Poser with this.

yep, confirmed after retesting.
Both for eyes (pointing at targets) and for emitters parented to spotlights pointing at targets. Right-clicking the Auto Refresh button is required though, otherwise only the moves of the targets are shown in the updated render.
Thanks !!

I guess I need some (expert) help with the following issue.
I'm creating a Poser animation, which includes a spotlight following a character in the scene. Simple, just using PointAt and Poser does the job.
I use the Octane addon to transfer my scene (to Octane), and before doing so I've added an emitter to my spotlight (parented, using the script for this).
In Octane, I have assigned an appropriate IES profile to turn the emitter into a spotlight, and for the frame 0 still, everything works out.
Now, when my character starts a walk, the Poser spotlight follows, the emitter rotates accordingly ... but in Octane the spotlight stands still.
Even when I unparent the emitter and manually animate its rotation, the Octane spotlight stands still. It only moves when the Direction / Rotation are adjusted.
Of course I can re-orient it again by altering the Direction / Rotation of the IES distribution like I did to match light and character in frame 0, but that's pretty tedious in rendering out a complete animation in Octane ( in the end I need 4 minutes @ 25fps = 6000 frames).
Someone for ideas on how to get a following spotlight in Octane ? Thanks !
