Subject: Split morph question

I'm learning to make morphs and load them into a figure.  Today I finished a morph that fixes both armpits and when I got done I realized that I should have made the morph separate for each armpit...left and right instead of one for both.

I used PML to create the morph.  In the figure drop down in Poser I have Body and various figure parts.  In Body the morph is there but if I click on it there is no Split Morph option.

In the rCollar, chest and rShldr the morph is there too and if I click on the morph when these body parts are selected then I can click on the morph and I get a split morph option.

I tried this and it made left and right morphs for these body parts.  The problem is that you have to select the body part (ie- rCollar), dial in 1.00 for the morph then go to another body part (ie-chest) and dial in the morph, etc.  That is unacceptable.

Why don't I get a split morph option under Body?   This was a tedious morph to make and I don't look forward to redoing the whole procedure again.

From your description you do it in a different order than I do.

I split the morph long before I set up any dependencies for it.

Yes, the morph editor will set up a body channel dependency for the morph across different body parts, But I do not link dependencies to the other dependencies unless I have to. I delete the dependency Poser creates.

I set up the dependency (on the limb axis) to directly drive the morphs on the affected body parts, ending up with one less dependency and doing the same thing.

You are creating a dependency on the joint, that tells the dependency on the body, to drive the morphs on the limbs..

There may be code in someones scripts to do it the way you are doing it, but I just do it in Poser and/or a cr2 editor.

 I don't know what "PML" stands for, so I don't know what it does. But, it sounds as if you created a Full Body Morph and want to split that "Morph" while in the main Body set of dials. There's really no morph there to split. The FBM dial for your morph is just a dependency dial that controls the morphs in the different groups. (That's how I see it, at any rate. :) )
When you're "dialing 1" in each group, you're just activating the morph in that group. If you're having to do that independently of some master parameter or dependency, I agree that is unacceptable. :) Just create a Full Body Morph for the Left and Right sides of your character. To do that easily, just make sure everything is zero'd (all rotations, axis and scale settings in your character) and then be sure the morphs in each group are labeled as they need to be so they can be set up easily. For instance, all the morphs for the left side might be "Left Armpit Fix." That would be only the morphs you want activated for the left side. Name all of those associated morphs the same. Then, do the same for the morphs you want to activate on the right, naming them something like "Right Armpit Fix." (You'll have to reload them into the groups under that name.)

Once done, dial all the ones you want for the Left Armpit Fix group to "1", then go into your "Figure" dropdown, in the top menu, and "Create Full Body Morph." Name it exactly the same as the morph targets are named for that morph = "Left Armpit Fix." Zero those individual group morphs out and then go to the Body panel and "1" for the FBM you created, to test it. If all is well, proceed to make the FBM for the right-hand morphs.

Because this is a "fix" that is only applied when the joint is moved, it's easier to work with if you don't have to do anything. :) Setting up to be dependent upon the rotation of a joint is probably the best idea, as long as the fix morph is good and doesn't, itself, require any tweaking. Instructions for how to do that are in the Poser manual.

how i would do it, deactivate all other morphs, turn on the two morphs you want from the left and right collars, from the menu, use create full body morph.  it will add a dial to 'body' to activate those two morphs.

it's only going to save to your current figure though.  something like D3D's utilities can create an inj file for you.

 ShvrDavid, thanks for trying to help but I have to admit that most of that is over my head.  I'm just feeling my way around morphing and am quite new to it.  A lot I don't know yet or understand...such as how dependencies work and affect each other.

 Morkonan and MistyLara, thanks for responding.  Morkonan, your instructions are extremely helpful.  I will give it a try and see if it gives me a good result.  Will look in Poser's manual to see how to assign dependencies.  Never did that before.

 PML is Color Curvature's Poser Morph Loader.  A friend advised it and gave me some instruction on using it.  Really like it because you can export your figure as one object (not all groups), morph it and bring it back into Poser as groups without distorting at your group seams.   After export you can use any modeler to morph it.  Very useful.
