Subject: Scarlet - Is it time to jump the V4 ship?

Tough pose for any Poser figure, admittedly, but I really don't care for how she looks there.  Her shoulder looks weird.  And the feet.

Does she have separate poseable toes?  Just curious.

Thanks to everyone who posted info in this thread, BTW.  I was going to buy Scarlet, and am still considering it, but for now I think I'll hold off and see how the updates go.

icprncss2 ( ) posted Thu, 21 May 2015 at 12:49 PM

What's with her feet in the pic?  The one on the wall looks quite odd.  Not natural at all.  So far, I've yet to see one render that has impressed me.

What I am most dissapointed about is how she bends. Because of this, she basically still gives that appearance of a typical 3d character due to rigging issues. EG hard to get realism. If she bent more naturally then maybe I would be a bit happier, but as she is now, there are way to many distortions in too many places.

Yes. I bought her on the second day of release. Mainly out of curiosity I suppose. Wanted to see if this is what Poser is supposed to be, eg. if she lived up to the claims and expectations. Regardless, I always try out all new figures, be it for Poser or Daz:)

This is why I wish they'd let David fix it.  I like Sixus' stuff and have bought it before, but weight-mapped figures are different, and it seems like they're not really used to it yet.

Here she is in Studio with Triax WM. Took me an hour to re-rig. Yes I know, blasphemy since she is meant for Poser, but I was bored. As I also mentioned at Rdna, one thing she needed was breast bones. Easier to manipulate breasts if morphs do not cater for full movement.

Lol.

You still think that a dozend people still playing with V4 because their computers are too sh*tty to run Studio are a healthy buisiness plan?

I've got news for you: The top tier merchants think otherwise, that's why they all leave the sinking ship while they can.

A few still make "pity conversions" for V4, but most don't even bother anymore.

Have a look at the warez szene. It's 99% GENESIS and STUDIO  now.

You can't even give Poser only stuff away for FREE these days.

(And, yeah: People earn real $$$ with warez, that's why it is a very good indication about WHAT'S HOT and WHAT'S NOT. You upload only what gets lotsa clicks. And V4 ain't got none no more, no 'Mam, she don't)

Given recent events with backdoor activation, if this was all a great masterplan to stop Poser and its stuff from being warezed, CONGRATS EVERYBODY!

It sure worked like a charm!

Studio is connected to DAZ too. At last, when I could manage it to install it on my PC, after hours, I had this very nice feature which show me what everything is new on the DAZ MP.

So what?

Because without SM (Or whoever owned Poser in the past) giving us a mesh that is technically and artistically on par with the DAZ' meshes, all of my "wonderful examples"  are absolutely meaningless.

Because they don't earn Poser one single dollar.

These are just examples of what Poser can do if in CAPEABLE hands. Using professionally made meshes.

But we needed an OFFICIAL POSER FAMILY OF FIGURES without mesh issues and built in flexibility.

We needed high polygon figures or a fully implemented subdivision algorithm that allowed mesh creasing to actually ADD detail to a sculpt.

We needed high quality topology, photorealistic shapes and superior rigging.

And we needed all this the second DAZ' released Genesis.

But you rather decided to sing kumbaya, worship poor craftsmanship and silence any voice of reason.

Yes, you all broke Poser. And you have noone else to blame but yourself for it.

The owners for playing deaf and dumb and just trying to squeeze out one more $ out of it every new release with half-broken new "features".

And the rabid fanbois for shouting down any critizism.

But as long every new character get no support and receive worst bashing even before release day, will will all stick with this old rug V4.

What is with Antonia? Michel? Dawn? Just a few of them. They had from the beginning on Zero chance;because busy people compare them to V4 and Genesis and bash them down.

And compare DS to Poser, will not help too. those are two pair of shoes.

Oh people are so ready to move forward. But what are they going to move forward to? What is the alternative? Nobody will bite at anything less than what they have already used. They are ready for the next big thing. I mean they have been waiting for years now lol.

What is with Antonia? Michel? Dawn? Just a few of them. They had from the beginning on Zero chance;because busy people compare them to V4 and Genesis and bash them down.

If they were designed as well, then there would be no bashing. As mean as Joe comes across he has very valid points. Poser should have released a mesh that is at least on par with what the competition has offered, but for some reason they felt figures aren't important, hense why we are at the cross road we are at. Now, I find it strange that if a hand full of people outside Poser staff can do a better job than what SM are offering their users, don't you think there is a problem? This is why every new figure released for Poser is under the gun, be it from SM or 3rd party. Users expect and want something they can call their own. Something to show the middle finger to the competition. Is that so much to ask for? The figure market is the single greatest factor for determining an apps success. Don't cater for that aspect, and you will run into issues, like we are seeing now. Now where does most of the anger come from? Well making claims for one that something is what it actually isn't. That just pushes those who are already frustrated at the situation over the edge.

The first Genesis not really the burner too on many points. Some morphs just get weird as example.

So where are your perfect character? Show me just one which was a perfect, outstanding character out of the box.

The thing is if people are given the right template, they will be willing to work with the figure, even if not perfect at launch. The first thing content creators look at is the mesh, and from there they can see how far it could possibly go, and that's where their decisions are made if it's something that warrants continued support. Also, most have the assurance from Daz that continued support would be present, and that the figure will thrive. It is one thing they have proven over and over. EG a good investment of time and money. Now if SM or another 3rd party releases a figure can anybody here say they have a good record and have continually supported it? That is key here, continued support. It is why most are not willing to jump on board unless you have a proven you can do this.

To add, a figure does not have to be perfect, they never are. BUT they must be able to deliver fantastic results when in matters and must in the wider sense of things cater for peoples needs.

V4 issues get fixed not over DAZ . 3thrd Party vendors from here release fix tools for her. So what support?

No the problem is quite different. I see it on Michel. The first thing what people write..I will wait buying her, till she has more content like V4. So ,should vendors create stock of outfits and let them rotten in the stores till people move from V4 to the new character, because enough content?

No, stop to compare ALL new character which get released to V4.or G2 Take the new character, discuss the mesh, errors, positive things, but stop to compare , because like this every new character will fail.

We aren't just talking about figure fixes here. We are talking about continued content support, clothing, hair etc. Bottom line, at end of the day vendors feel more comfortable investing in Daz figures because they aren't just a once off. Complaining about minor details of who fixes what are not really valid in this regard. Those come in time, but the figure still has to be alive by then:) What Daz does from the get go is provide enough morphing capabilities and content to keep people happy. Fixes always follows. Your aim when releasing a figure is to keep people interested in using it. It is as simple as that. If you can achieve that, you can make it past the first hurdle.

You make the same mistake like many when they come with this argument.

When V4 get released, 10 years ago..what kind of character did we have else? Except Posers own? No one.

So V4 could collect 10 year long content. But remember what did she had at the beginning? Just a handful outfits, Poses and 2-3 textures.

It is easy to scream that only DAZ character get support, when there was an empty field around them.

I was one of those "busy people" who "bashed" Dawn. And Antonia. (She was excellent for a "free" mesh, but not even remotely suited for the V4/Genesis-Killer role her fans tried to push her in)

And if I had had a closer look at Michelle, I would have "bashed" her, too.

Like I "bashed" Renda, EVA, Roxy and whatever other sub-par, non-DAZ mesh is out there.

Not because they are "not-DAZ".

I'd gladly PAY $200 or more for a NON-DAZ Poser-only "Family" that is as capeable as Genesis 2 and adheres to modern CGI-standards.

What many here don't get is that after all is said and done this is just a buisiness.

And top merchants are usually more capeable of properly judging the quality of a Poser figure.

And if you can't convince them with technical superiority and flawless craftsmanship, they won't touch your figure with a ten-foot pole. Because its THEIR livelyhood they risk by supporting the "wrong horse".

So publically "bashing" is an act of self-cleansing in an overcrowded market. End users can only spend a dollar once, so every dollar spent supporting a "loser" mesh is one dollar less that could have been spent on making a "winner" mesh grow.

Alas, it's too late now.

Nothing short of a miracle would be needed to make Poser relevant again.

Perfectly photogrammetry created photorealistic humans, flawless flexible mesh layouts and superior rigging like I showed in the examples given in my first posting. (Actually better rigging as I'm just a hobbyist, not a professional)

Fully implemented edge creasing so I can actually ADD detail via the morphbrush on subdivided meshes.

Give me that, and I'll happily be a PoserPro EARLY ADOPTER again.

Heck, throw in true instancing and a GC based render engine and I'll happily PAY FULL PRICE OR MORE!

And then I'll change my sceen name to "#1 POSER FAN".

But without all that?

Sorry, it is 2015, and if you can't give me what I need to make great art, I'll try my luck elsewhere.

Nothing personal.

Just good buisiness.

Why does there have to be only one figure? Or one set of figures?

Sixus1 is a top vendor. So they must be doing something right to have earned that status over the years. Clearly they sell enough content and have a decent sized fan base.

Not everyone that uses Poser intends on using it for ultra realism. A lot of people like it for rendering more stylized cartoon and sketch style renders as well. How realistic is RWBY? A figure does not have to look like a photograph in order to gather a following and be considered a good figure. And it doesn't have to be a "vicky killer" in order to garner it's creator a decent living from it. So what if other vendors don't support this or that figure? As long as the artist that created that figure continues to support their own creation with add-on content, then there's a market for them to continue providing that content to the fans of their work. And in the end, the only thing that really matters is the fans of an artist's work, not all the other vendors that decide to snub their noses at their work, or all the other people who don't have anything better to do with their lives than to discredit other people's efforts. The whole purpose of being an artist is creating art that you enjoy creating. And if you can earn a living while doing it and gather more fans of your work then that makes it even better. It doesn't need to be a popularity contest.

You lot are hilarous, and I'm not kidding either, you'll happily chat away acting like you're all experts on what the best figures are, when in fact, you know nothing, none of you, and there are infinitely more real-looking figures than Genesis and the other figures and not one of you have mentioned them.  I was considering buying a figure myself the other day, she's a bit too expensive for my liking, but the realism is far ahead of Genesis so it's only right the vendor should ask more for it.

So yeah, just to prove what crap you all talk, there's a character called Olivia designed for RealDoll, and I think you're all so far up Vickies backside I bet you've never even heard of the RealDoll range, nevermind seen all the lifelike characters that are already available for it.  Let's just say the quality is totally smile-inducing and It totally craps all over the DAZ Genesis stuff.

I really like how she looks there.  Her proportions are not your typical fashion model/comic book heroine, but some women do look like that, and it's not unattractive. Agree about the hands.  (Feet look too big to me, too.)  But that's easily fixed with scaling.

@Male_M3dia
BTW, regards the pricing, I think $99 just for a nipple texture is a bit steep, must admit!

Male_M3dia ( ) posted Fri, 22 May 2015 at 8:47 AM

Ah, but that's where you're wrong, see, cause all you would need to do is scan her and Pose her in Poser!
And you have to admit, those monochrome renders look amazing!

  1. ... or you can just buy one of the already availble 3D scans and rig that. 2) ... Eh, they look amazing if you like staring into dead eyes.

Either way, let's come away from that and focus on scarlett or at least something reasonable. What you're trying to steer the convo towards is very unnecessary.

Back to lurk mode... try not to hurt each other too much now.

I posted it cause you're all so serious, just thought I'd lighten the atmosphere a bit!

"Sixus1 is a top vendor."

The only thing that allows Sixus1 to be ranked "top vendor" here is the fact that his "fans/customers" have even less knowledge about human anatomy than he has.

I mean, seriously, even "alien/fantasy" muscle structure should at least follow "some" inner logic, shouldn't it?

Well, perhaps not in Poser-La-La-Land where everything goes and rules and standards be damned.

Just do whatever you want and be happy, eh?

Problem is, while total anarchy makes for an intriguing political concept and inspired some of the best music ever, it doesn't work so well with CGI, as in the end our "art" is just little ones and zeros which happen to follow very strict rules.

For example it is much easier to turn structure into chaos than vice versa.

That means, a perfectly photorealistic mesh is easy to "toonify", but a tooned mesh is impossible to turn into a photorealistic

human avatar.

So OF COURSE you start building your mesh with perfect photorealism in mind and worry about a "Toon morph" later rather than doing it the other way round.

That's the problem here. Everyone wants to be a PROPER ARTIST with a capital "A".

But what we need(ed) were ARTISANS, not ARTISTS.

Craftsmen who know their craft and just do what needs to be done without big f*cking egos getting constantly into the way.

But you have to excuse me now.

No more time to play with you as I'm now...

...out to lunch.

If you look at the present cataloger from Sixus1 you can hardly say their products are run of the mill.  Rather than turn out another bikini or a long line of V4 characters you get little grey men, flying pigs and other strange creatures, a lot of which live in my runtime.  Not your average Poser items but they seem to have produced a big enough fan base that they are able to survive, as far as one can tell.

To bring out another human figure is a brave move but based on what they have done before I suspect they can make Scarlet as success in their terms and good luck to them in that.

I use Poser 13 on Windows 11 - For Scene set up I use a Geekcom A5 -  Ryzen 9 5900HX, with 64 gig ram and 3 TB  storage, mini PC with final rendering done on normal sized desktop using an AMD Ryzen Threadipper 1950X CPU, Corsair Hydro H100i CPU cooler, 3XS EVGA GTX 1080i SC with 11g Ram, 4 X 16gig Corsair DDR4 Ram and a Corsair RM 100 PSU .   The desktop is in a remote location with rendering done via Queue Manager which gives me a clearer desktop and quieter computer room.

And, yet, despite your constant consternation, Poser and Poser users just refuse to die. It's clear how much that thought just burns you up.

Yeah weird hobbies are OK, an overblown out of all proportion ego about your weird hobbies... not so much. And, ummm, sure, staring mannikins standing around in 3d.sk or contorted sex poses constitutes "great art".

Maybe there needs to be a Renderosity or RTDNA open-source base figure project that could be started by the folks who know what they are doing with modeling, rigging, and testing? Might be something to look into since it seems unlikely that SM will ever give us something on par with Daz and the job likely to take a lot more man-hours than a single person can handle.

Wasn't that what Antonia was?

Not sure. I missed the boat on Antonia.

Just checked RTDNA. Yes she's free and open source as far as I can tell. What is the reason people don't use her? (I'm downloading her now)

There's an incredibly long thread chronicling the creation of Antonia here

http://www.renderosity.com/mod/forumpro/?thread_id=2753785

Wonder what ever became of ODF? Seems like anytime someone creates an elaborate free figure for Poser they end up disappearing from the community (Anton, ODF, Diogenes).

primorge ( ) posted Fri, 22 May 2015 at 4:06 PM

"what is the reason people don't use her?"

Probably too low poly and realistically proportioned for most of the Poser masses liking... and V4.
