Subject: DAZ 4,7 to Blender Problems

sfame1 ( ) posted Wed, 13 May 2015 at 7:29 AM · edited Wed, 30 October 2024 at 5:32 PM

I am trying to upload to Blender via Daz studio 4.7 Although I have had some success with Blender and Daz I cannot seem to grasp the concept of Importing the OBJ files and make them work to create my own clothing and hair styles. I import to Blender using the preset configs, And either my GEN 2 female is very small and off front ortho view. Also if I upload to blender just basic hair it is grouped with the gen 2 headand one is way above the model. Am i suppose to ungroup the objects before i export them??

Here is a recent blend I did ( I had to dload 3rd person content though which is pretty expensive so I am taking this route

Are you using the mcjTeleblender scripts to import it?  (or just manually)

To be honest, the new Iray stuff is really cool, and very comparable to cycles output.

That being said, mcjTeleblender is a script by Casual, found here: https://sites.google.com/site/mcasualsdazscripts4/mcjteleblender3

It basically exports your scene from Daz into Blender with a single click, after you set the appropriate settings.

Highly recommended if you are going from Daz to Blender.

Before exporting, fit any hair/clothing to G2F so that it loads in place in blender. If it's Poser prop hair, or meant for another figure, just get a decent translation/fit first.

Also make sure any posing is done within studio first.

If you have multiple items when you export from studio, and want them to import to blender as separate items, change keep vert order to split and select by object.

Just note, this method will collect the maps to a folder, but you'll need to import them into blender yourself for cycles. Only the default blender renderer handles auto-import.

I have not tried transferring weight maps (does it work?) but I regularly move items in OBJ format between DAZ and Blender. If I want anything in parts e.g. doors, windows I export/import them seperately then position, parent and set the axes in DAZ.

Re the size issue I suggest you get a scale sample (I use a standing or sitting V4), import to Blender then scale other things to match that - then when you export the OBJ it will always be the right size in DAZ.  When you export from DAZ use the "Blender" preset and in Blender export, set it up until things match up both ways, which may take a little trial and error.  I always have to put the cursor on the centre (shift-C) then go to side view (numpad 3) in ortho (numpad5), select the imported object and rotate 90 to get it the right way up, then change whatever I want, then reverse the action (rotate X -90) before export to get things vertical in DAZ but maybe you can find a setting in the export that will fix that.
