I rigged the suit again to test the emblem after I tweaked some of the material zones. I haven't put it through its paces yet, but that will be after I model the boots. Frustration is starting to set in because of the emblem, and when that happens I usually abandon a project. So I will set it aside for a few days and work on other things until the light bulb goes off and I figure out a different approach.
At least I saved this one in my library this time.

The Forum is really making me mad. I've gotten no updates to this thread so I have to check in on my own. Well I'm not mad but c'mon man!!
Anyway, The suit, boots and cape look fantastic. I really didn't think that a model could collide with itself. hborre might be a better critic. I'm still learning how to model a crate in Hexagon. If it makes it easier the cape doesn't have to quite hit the ground when he's standing (which is rare because defying gravity is practically his natural state. It might be harder for her him to stay on the ground). Anyway, it compares VERY favorably with the Man of Steel. (Did you know the next man of steel is due out next year?)
As far as hair goes, I think Supes no longer has the classic spit curl so the color might be more important than the style. Still if he does, I think the Gel hair would work. I'll keep looking.
Cool. I kind of like the longer cape, but I guess I can shorten it. Here is the big reveal, like in the movie.
If you want me to shorten the cape, I will, no problem. The suit is rigged, the boots are rigged, the cape is still dynamic, so you could just add wind to the cloth simulation and there you go.
And I have been watching for the next movie with GREAT interest. Should be totally awesome if they can pull off that many new character introductions and still have an actual plot!

I still want to play with the textures a bit, maybe take the shine out of the boots some, and tweak the piping, but overall, I am about as happy as I can be with it. The emblem still bothers me, but I will work on that. I have to clean up the cr2 files and do some final bending tests on the suit, so maybe another week and I will put both this one and the Batman in the freebies.

I finally installed V4. Yeah, I broke down and did it, so if you can give me an idea (like post a pic) of the Wonder Woman you are looking for, I could get started on that one too. The modeling part is always easy and fast for me. It's the part when I get them to Poser that I am still learning.

Indeed, Overall, the super suit looks great! I agree with hborre about the boots as well. I'm still looking for a spit curl hair for the man of steel though the modern version of Superman doesn't seem to have it. As far as Wonder Woman, they went the X-Men route and took away her colorful american style outfit. I think some of the designers can do better. But comic spandex doesn't translate well into movies. Either way, I appreciated and liked her outfit consisting of a bustier, panties, boots and a whip...I mean rope. Geez either way, it sounds rather dominatrix, doesn't it? Considering who she is, that isn't unexpected. Here is the current version of the WW outfit planned for the 2016 release.
Actually, they released a different version of that pic awhile back. They said when Zack posted that pic on his twitter or whatever account he posted it on, he changed it to sepia tone. The red, white, blue and gold are all there, just subdued. I don't really like the warrior princess look, so I would just have you default to what you can find on ShareCG or on here. I could probably create that, but it looks like several layers of leather. Not an easy thing to do.

I changed the material on the boots. Much better look to them now. I also posed him in a more 'Man Of Steel-esque" type pose. I love how the suit bends so natural. I didn't have to adjust much of the fallout zones beyond some in the shoulders, so I am happy as a clam with that suit. I am thinking I need to give him a much WIDER cape, though.
Thoughts?

I tried a wider cape. Going to try again tomorrow with a different approach. I am still stumped on the emblem. I tried a few different things that didn't work. I won't give up, but I will leave it alone if it really starts getting me ticked off...

I think the suit looks remarkable. I haven't done dynamic simulations before, but for this project it's way past time I learned. The actual emblem is a bit harder than people think. The old S was hard. The new S is just as hard. You really have to study the S at the bottom loop and top taper to get it just right. I rather yours.
You are one hundred percent right on the Wonder Woman outfit. I mentioned this as well in stating that many designers could do this as well. The movie suit has too many layers of leather. It might look nice on the screen but I think they could've gone simpler and accomplished the same if not more. During the seventies and 80's, like Supergirl she wore different versions of her outfit. Of course we were more sexist back then in stating that because she was female, she would change her suit from time to time. Personally I just liked every artists interpretation. You knew who it was and that meant you knew what she could do. Your poses show the same thing with Supes. He isn't mortal and stays on the ground "just to be nice" to us regular folks. I'm glad you're not mad at it. I like what you've done.
I'm not mad at you at all! I am pretty mad at me because this shouldn't be kicking my butt like it is.
I am going to start a new emblem probably tonight. If I can't get it to go, I will make the emblem a smart prop and see if that makes any difference. I will just chose not to follow the bends of the parent and it should stay undeformed when I pose him.
Dynamics are fairly simple once you get the hang of it. I'll include a tutorial with the package that shows how I get the cape to do what I want. That should get you started, and since I know you have a vivid imagination, you can take it a whole lot further.

Thanks!! I've been online reading about the mess that has become the Marvel Comics universe as it relates to the movie. Killing off Wolverine, cancelling the Fantastic Four, changing characters to fit whatever they thought it should be. I'm glad I went the incredible DC universe. They still have the greatest heroes ever. Since I was a boy I was crazy about Superman and his super friends. The world is a darker place than when I grew up and I've grown darker with it. So have our heroes.
And yet. They are still heroes.
That is what I hope to bring. And what you will see as I finish up my current story arc. Still I seek to improve on what I've done before and to do that, I need to learn all that my tools can do. I look forward to a tutorial on that scary tab dynamic clothing tab that must not be touched. I've bought dynamic clothing but never learned how to use it. It's never to late to learn.
How do you texture? What do you use?
Here's a recommendation, take an image of an emblem found on the web and construct the mesh based on the design. Proportion the mesh accordingly to fit the costume. I'm going to imagine that the ratio will be more wider than longer.
I had that same thought. The problem is finding a large image to use. That one you posted would be perfect, but when I put it in Wings, it's pixelated and hard to see. I will keep looking when I get off work for a usable image.

@quietrob:
The first step to texturing is to UV map the model. I use UVmapper, which is a free app. Then you create texture maps if you are going to do something beyond a solid color. The textures are created by using a combination of displacement maps, bump maps and whatnot.
UVmapper creates .bmp images that I convert to .png and use them in GIMP, the poor man's photoshop. That program can do most of the same things, just different techniques. I find images on the web (like I did with the texture for the MOS suit) and convert them for use. There are a couple artists on here who create texture maps and put them in the freebies. I credit them when I use their stuff, but by and large it was trial and error, and finding tutorials and of course, the infinite knowledge of bagginsbill on how to put it all together.

I did have UV Mapper Pro once upon a time. A virus later and it was gone. I kick myself for not getting deeper into it. I'm still learning to do it with the UV maps provided but mostly I used material zones but you can't really get into it. Like I have the AFI interceptor. I can make my own UV map for it but it's so darn confusing, I gave up on trying to make a decal overlay for it. To make that suit? That's impressive. I like the above pic. It captures the big blue just right...Pretty much how I'm going to start my story too!
I can't wait to see that emblem!
You have to play around with things. I have a knack for understanding how things work pretty fast. I still do really simple materials, though. Nothing like the 80 node things BB comes up with. I do enough to get the effect I want and leave it at that.
I posted that pic at lunchtime here. I have about 3 hours left of my work day and then I will start on the emblem. I am going to find a decent pic of it online and go from there. I think maybe one of the movie poster shots will work. How would that be; to recreate that stylized logo? hehehe... nah, KISS (Keep It Simple, Stupid).

I sat here modeling the emblem for almost 2 hours. Got done, it was PERFECT. But I can't get a separately modeled emblem to work with the suit. I am going back to the drawing board and see if I can do it one more time. If not, I may just scrap the project for another year.

I like that shot of wonder woman. It's much more mature and modern. The original outfit was too silly. Most original super hero outfits were silly and colorful. Though I've never been much of a superhero fan to begin with, I tend to like most of the more modern looks I've seen.
I was really liking the redesigns of the Thundercats that were being shown a few years back. It's a shame they canceled the movie. Lion-O's new suit looked pretty good.
Rievel hair on sale at Daz $3.59. Close that spit curl style.

Still playing with the suits to see what they look like. Unfortunately I named the different parts the same so I had to render them separate and then put them together in GIMP. Same names plays havoc with Poser's programming...
I am about to attempt one last thing with the emblem before I give up.

I never really thought of the costume as silly. A lot of that had to do with the way she was drawn. I was an early teen, so you know where my mind was at...

Something to consider when texturing the symbol. Morph the figure to what you want as the final look, so that you can work around the contours of the muscles in making the symbol look good. Texturing it then morphing causes the symbol to get distorted in all kinds of odd ways.
I am not creating a texture for the symbol. I modeled it. It's a separate piece of the costume. The problem I am having with it is that the separate piece is contoured to his body and muscle tone. So when I attempt to create the emblem, it distorts anyway. I am going to redo it, this time taking extra care to make sure I follow the movie costume a bit more carefully.

This costume is so much better than the Gal Gadot version. The link is a trailer that actually looks good.

Spraying to all fields as the OP and am grateful to Rokket, hborre and the Rendo community that has chipped in...Somehow Bagginsbill got a mention in this thread which automatically makes legendary.
The above outfit is much better than the one I posted. It is leatherized for the movies but still the red white and blue come through. I'm not crazy about the stylized bird about her breasts. The rest of it looks great down to the bracelets which can block anything if she is fast enough. The girl looks more like Wonder Woman as well. Fit, built stacked but not overly muscular. Again the spandex is gone but the leather mesh is back and it really works.
Superman vs Batman. Does Tyler have morphs to make him buff? I like the suit...don't forget Superman likes to float. If you could defy gravity, wouldn't you? By the way, Batman always keeps a small bit of kryptonite handy just in case. After all, He is the guy that punches the bully in the nose.
rokket, that cartoon superman? Where does that come from? Is he superboy or from the future? They should go with the Jim Lee Superman but I recognize that artist's work anywhere now. They were able to tell a great story with his style so no complaints from me.
I like the emblem, if you wish, you might want to thicken the borders just a tad. It's interesting to note that the emblem was part of the suit until the Man of Steel updated his outfit. Now it's seems more like a shield so I think your decision is proper. I still have the image of Christopher Reeve superman using it as a weapon. (By the way for those who panned the "Man of Steel" movie. The fight between the Kryptonians made every other superhero fight memorable. Super speed, Super strength. It's like they remembered that the people have power!)
The new Thundercats rocked!
Tyler does have morphs to make him buff. Really buff, but the suit won't morph with him. I am good, but I don't know how to do super-conforming figures: i.e., figures which include the morphs from the characters they are fit to. Right now, you don't need to morph Tyler to use the suit. If you do, he pokes through really bad on certain poses. The suit was sculpted around his body with the 'muscular' morph set to 1. I tried to do the suit with him bulked up with muscular set to .5 and 'body builder' set to 1, but when you put his arms at his sides, his arms poked into his body and didn't look natural.
There was a new Thundercats? I remember when they were going to do a live action movie in the 80's and it got cancelled...

Oh, and the cartoon Superman is a pic I got from Pinterest. I have an account there so I can find comic book related stuff easily. I am not 100% sure where the image originated, or what time period it is from, but the overall design does suggest the future.
The biggest change I see in the MOS suit over the rest is the Kryptonian influence. His original suit was made by Martha Kent in the comics at one point. I am not sure it was even discussed in the early stages of the comic. The first design was modeled after circus strongman costumes, which are closely related to Olympic wrestling uniforms of that time period.
I think I will give the emblem one more shot and see what happens. The biggest problem I have is that I modeled the first emblem by doing a shell extrusion off his suit, so I was stuck with that geometry. Tyler's torso is long, so that is why it got that wonky shape. Any attempt I have made at modeling a separate emblem, while they are 100% accurate with the movie design, don't fit the costume. I am formulating a plan that involves using Blender's Shrinkwrap utility and see what I can do from there with a single sided prop.
If I had a nickle for ever time a woman told me to get lost, I could buy Manhattan.
I didn't know the first suit was modeled after circus strongman outfits! Huh! Those outfits haven't changed that much! Still Skimpy with an emblem on the chest. Who would've thought in 1938 that it would turn out to be so iconic!
His original supersuit with the red pants on the outside was indeed made by Martha Kent from the blankets he was wrapped in when he crash landed on the earth. He used his heat vision to unravel it and metal from the ship as needles. Not bad for the day! Fast forward about 50 years and now his suit is, if I remember, a Kryptonian power suit. All he had from his childhood was his cape. He found the suit when he leapt from the earth to Brainiac's ship to stop him miniaturizing Metropolis. He reprogrammed Brainiac's ship (and Braniac) into his first Fortress of Solitude while calmly stealing the suit! An incredible story by Grant Morrison, who in my humble opinion, is the greatest writer of comics and especially Superman that I have ever seen and considering Kingdom Come that is a powerful statement. Most of all I like his hopefulness in a world of dark heroes with masks. In the Movie the suit was made or produced by his real father which we won't get into now. The movie had a few flaws, no? Still, I loved it.
Luckily, Ironman13 and Fuzagi's Hexagon lessons have taught me well about using Extrude so I know exactly what you mean. Still, in all of the examples you've shown so far I can't see any distortion. Is the issue the emblem is more or less rigid? I think the shrink wrap option could take care of your worries. Anyway, the design of the emblem itself is good! It looks like it fits the outfit to me though I don't know what would happen when given an action pose. It's common for Supes to get walloped then come back and win the day.
If I create a blank and just do different mat poses, that might be a viable option, but I am still leaning on modeling the emblem completely.
The issue I am having is in the top curve of the S. Where it tapers off on the right side of the emblem it looks wonky to me. It kind of resembles a Dr. Seuss drawing and I don't like it. The overall shape looks a lot different than the original, again, because of Tyler's torso being so long. But I am working around it. I am going to try to model it again, remove all of the sides except the front, shrinkwrap it in Blender and then extrude it out when I get that done. Hopefully that will make a difference. I won't start the model from a shell extrusion this time, but start from a cube and model it outright. That should solve the problem. If it doesn't, I will just have to release it as is, and maybe it can be fixed in post work.

Here is the rigged suit. There isn't as much distortion, as I figured. When I went back and looked at the scene that I ran in the cloth room, I realized that the distortion was probably due to the fact that I didn't morph Tyler to what I had used to create the suit, and that may have attributed to the failure. What you see in the render above is the suit as it came out of the setup room. It is in Tyler's default pose. I didn't zero it out. I also didn't keep it. I deleted it as soon as the render finished.
But I did say that I was contemplating redoing the emblem anyway. I just didn't like it. So I am going to start remodeling it now.
