Folks, for some time I've been growing increasingly uncomfortable with this site - it has strict rules for posting images, particularly in respect of nudity etc. which I have fully supported over the years, despite a few reminders from mods........I have seen an increasing preponderance of schoolgirl and soft-porn images, morphs and outfits which make me feel a bit queasy. Today I logged on for the first time in weeks and actually thought "this looks like a soft-core porn site" (a bad one!). I don't know what's gone wrong and how a straight-laced set of posting rules has allowed vendors to peddle stuff that I would be embarassed to show to colleagues/friends/family or God forbid, children, but I am going to close my account and my gallery. I have been a member since 1998 (not 2000 as my profile shows) and this all feels a bit crappy. To all those who have been kind enough to comment on what I like to call my "art", I thank you, and to everyone who has ever answered a Forum question of mine (I'm looking at you Bill), I guess I can only say "thanks" and to politely suggest that noting lasts forever. The 1990s have finally died and Renderosity needs to be put humanely to sleep. IMVHBO.

My self-build system - Vista 64 on a Kingston 240GB SSD, Asus P5Q Pro MB, Quad 6600 CPU, 8 Gb Geil Black Dragon Ram, CoolerMaster HAF932 full tower chassis, EVGA Geforce GTX 750Ti Superclocked 2 Gb, Coolermaster V8 CPU aircooler, Enermax 600W Modular PSU, 240Gb SSD, 2Tb HDD storage, 28" LCD monitor, and more red LEDs than a grown man really needs.....I built it in 2008 and can't afford a new one, yet.....!

There is generally a nude advisory. While I don't particularly care for too adult content, i would not go as far as some people who would say the Venus De Milo or Michelangelo's David who consider them "pornographic". What's generally posted here is mild compared to some websites. Deviant Art often has work that is over the line. There is some that is artwork and some that is gratuitous nudity. Those who have kids and don't control their access to sites, that's really the parents task to teach them the difference between pornography and art. Good luck in that as what kids do and have access to today make us look like snow white innocents. Pintrest generally does a better job although I've seen a lot of stuff get by there that shouldn't, whereas tumblr and other sites can be great, they can also be like Russian roulette in clicking on a link.

One of the reasons I use ad blocking software is sometimes news stories use horrible headlines. I frequent a few tech websites, gaming news sites, and science fiction covering websites that happen to be under one web publisher and their advertisements for content covered in news stories on their other sites can be really offensive. So you might be reading about a League of Legends match and see some linked article frame on the webpage that has wording I wouldn't want anyone under 15 to read.

Sadly there is no real way to filter content. Parental content filtering software often filter out references to medical research on injury or cancers due to certain words. As far as sex being rampantly used in website traffic, as well as advertising... well it's everywhere. Unless your living a Luddite lifestyle you really can't avoid it. It's in music, film, magazines, commercials, books, anything you can think of... As far as condemning Renderosity for what artists post, well anywhere you go you'll run into differing opinions on how far art can go before it becomes pornography. It's also a cultural ideal too, differing there from culture to culture. I have friends who are shocked at how people here react to a nude scene in a film compared to extreme violence that's common place in today's films and television. I agree violence shouldn't be as accepted here as it is, and if anything the outcry should be more over that than nudity.

I also totally agree with Miss Nancy. Like all things it's a cycle. Taking a break from something troubling is often best, better than making yourself sick with concern over something you have no control over. There's a really old joke:

Patient: "Doctor it hurts when I do this..."

Doctor: "Don't do that."

The dust settled, thinking "what a fine home, at least for now" not realizing that doom would soon be coming in the form of a vacuum cleaner.

Totally agree Paul, and I've appreciated your work for some time. I considered going on a rant about things like imagination and the make art button but who wants to hear that crap and it certainly would be a waste of breath. I'd just like to say that perhaps you should step away or ignore the things that you find so distasteful, for the sake of having rendos old thread archive to enjoy, which I think is a treasure for any Poser user... even considering its increasingly decimated state.

Well, I rarely go to the galleries, so I did today.

What happened???

  1. It is SUPER slow 2; Where can I select Poser? Before I could select what ? Now I am waiting minutes before my screen to get something to refresh.
  2. This was the last time I went to the galleries.

I normally dont post in these "Im sick of all the naked boobie chicks ",Threads

But Alas here I go

Web Galleries ,IMHO ,are for people to post what they like to create & see hence all the nudity.

This entire, poser based, site is symptom of the larger problem of waning interest in the program because of the lack of innovation and new technology. Resulting in a lack of new ways to create& use content for, (lets be honest)... DAZ Vicky 4 .

Most people IMHO use Poser/ Daz to Make images Idealized Fantasy Love/Sex partners captured in single still moment. No surprise you have Alot of men rendering some personal variation of a Naked Vicky.

With the notable exceptions of people making web comics Hardly anyone seems to using the program to" tell stories" anymore.

Even non original Genre's like when we used to see alot of new themed content after a Major Fantasy /sci fi movie release ( LOTR for example) I see few things in the way of Sci fi themed content for poser anymore. No aliens or cool mechs.

However I see ,( A likely Doomed) effort to renovate Roxy or to inspire interest in the so called Dawn "special Edition" OK...great!!!... any Creature morphs, Obesity morphs, Aging morphs, Ethnic morphs planned for these poser native figures????

Not likely because IMHO the pose user base remains hopelessly obsessed with *NSEWG's

Not meaning to start a this or this (program bait) but I will say a lot who are talking about V7 and bending are using V7's and G2's to do the same NSEWG work posted here and at Deviant Art. I think singling out one or the other is a mistake. I think the general concept of NSEWG runs rampant in 3d art. In many sites more so than others. And when ethnic character models come out for either program, they just don't sell as well as the NSEWG type models which is a real shame. Not that NS ethnic women won't be posted whenever they become popular. It's on every 3d website. Probably the best two that aren't inundated with nudity are CGSociety and ArtStation (might be naming ArtStation wrong, am still sleepy).

Being a member of the CGSociety forums I can say there's practically no this program or that fighting. It's posting and "here's how I did this" with works in progress. Just that alone is worth hanging out in their forums. I know several Daz Studio users and Poser users who think CGSociety members look down on them due to both programs being considered "hobby programs" but I've not seen threads about that anywhere there really. Mind you many, many more industry artists use CGSociety and Artstation for their portfolios. Running into people who work on films, magazines, and books there is much more common place there than here....

As far as the galleries here being broken, yeah I've heard that from friends who used to post a ton (and they aren't NSEWG images). I think the website needs to hire a different programmer. The gallery and posting is a big Prime sale point and if it's broken it's not worth mentioning.

On nude V (pick your own version number), it is kind of shocking as I mentioned before at Deviant Art. You'll see lots of artists and nice work, and then suddenly scenes that would fit in an adult magazine. And sadly it seems to be more rampant among the 3d artists posting there than those who paint or draw, though photography of people has a ton leaning toward gratuitous over there too.

The dust settled, thinking "what a fine home, at least for now" not realizing that doom would soon be coming in the form of a vacuum cleaner.

I was not going to bother to respond here but I will, firstly to voice my opinion that it is sad to see another person leave and second try and add a little accuracy.

Any creature Morphs, well Dawn has the creature head morphs, any obesity morphs, yep she has them as well. Not only that but there are a couple of great African characters.

Not going to get into an argument though, any one interested can head over to Hivewire3D and look for themselves, others will stay here and continue to knock Poser, a program who's content they do not appear to follow very closely.

Well that was my one for the road I'm off but from one Paul to another, there are sites where you can show your kids and they are proud of the fact. I hope I bump into you there at some point.

Have fun everyone.

This would be good to post in a thread somewhere. Safe 3d art sites for families with links. It might get shut down here but there should be a thread somewhere that posts it. Sadly filtering content on all these sites leaves a lot to be desired. Thank you for the reply Hornet3d. I do shop at Hivewire, but haven't really visited their forums. Will start to check them out more. :)

I get tired of the "Everybody's doing it so get used to it" argument. What ever happened to standing out? Being unique? Sticking to principles? Why does everyone cater to the lowest common denominator? People push sales with sex because people don't take a stand. I don't care if the store wants to sell the latest microscopic transparent bikini that makes the emperor's new clothes look abundant. But it shouldn't be in the ad selling baby shoes (for a baby not fetish wear) or a frying pan. Cause let me tell you no one wears that while fraying bacon (twice). And if a site says no porn, the members should respect that and not push it. And the site should enforce the TOS.

Kind of on the other side of the coin there are people leaving because of what they see as censorship. Is not the best way to solve this is to use peer pressure? We are all here because we like CG, if there where more professionals posting images on the site it would encourage more diverse content from everyone else and move away from images that cause offence. I'm not a professional but I'm sure they like free publicity, for example "picture of the day" type content on the front page would give them opportunity to show their work.

Thank you 3dFineries for coming in here. I know there is frustration when when overwhelmed by imagery that you don't particularly care for. I don't care for over-indulgent nudity for the sake of nudity myself. But it's true that there are waves of "Nudie" works and then they lighten up and more varied work comes back. It's the nature of the beast called Poser/DAZ ... Keep in mind because it is a lower priced program there will be less experienced and younger folks rendering. Hormones to consider and erotic interests abound when you have digital dolls. We don't like to admit it ... but it's there. We shrug at the obvious self-indulgent works and go on to the ones we like more. At least that's MHO. Not all artwork will appeal to all viewers, but we all have the tools to create what we want and that is the purpose of the software and this site. So please don't be disheartened. It gets better.

Well the old Rendo-rules "No nudity in thumbnails" and having a nudity tag on pictures, that includes nudity seemed to work quite well. If ther's a nudity tag, don't go there. make sur to set your filter. When I joined that site in 2004? , there was a lot more nudity and sexual content, than today. Lot's of vendors, that are now on R'otica had their products here. It all became quite calm here. So where is the point?

3DFineries ( ) posted Thu, 17 September 2015 at 9:57 AM

It's very true, Boni. Everyone is so vastly different so naturally they have different views on what art appeals to them. I do notice that 'nudies' come in waves and then it ebbs away and then comes back again. Not sure members noticed the announcement that there are filters for it and staff has been on top of making sure nudity, etc. is marked.

I'm no prude here, and I don't really care about nudes in the gallery, however I will say that I do appreciate the forums without the skimpy clothes that used to be in the ads on the right side. I work at home and sometimes I'd feel slightly embarrassed when my wife or daughter would walk in my room. On the other hand, I'm guessing the vendors don't appreciate it because nearly every purchase I made was an impulse buy from clicking on one of those ads, and I'd bet I'm not the only one.

On the whole, it seems to me like the whole hobby CG deal is nowhere near the level is was a few years ago, even at CGSociety the activity seems down compared to what it used to be, and substantially so. Some of the larger Poser/Daz forums are increasing cookie length so it appears there is more activity than there actually is.

I guess things come and things go, interests fade, and people also come and go.

That's really old stuff. The Coles Notes version of the story, IIRC, is like his: someone had created a texture for V2 that used freckles off the back of the hand and face from one made for Posette. People went ape-sh*t, with detailed close up images of the freckles in question and whether or not said freckles had come from another texture altogether.

It was pretty wild.

rokket ( ) posted Thu, 17 September 2015 at 9:48 PM

I guess some people just need something to complain about. Was the V2 texture for sale? I could see that. That's why I don't like creating such things. Well, that and I am not good enough at it to actually create a body texture that I could release. I have a hard enough time with the few clothing items I make.

If I had a nickle for ever time a woman told me to get lost, I could buy Manhattan.

SeanMartin ( ) posted Fri, 18 September 2015 at 2:33 PM

As I remember (and I could be wrong), they both were, and the merchant putting out the V2 texture was under the impression that if he heavily reworked it (which, truth be said, he did — the infamous freckles were visible but under three or four more layers of post work), it was okay. And people went ballistic on all sides.

But those were the days when there were relatively few products, and people were very territorial. As a mod at PoserPros, I had to assess whether or not a certain lighting set series was the same as another — both were on sale. Vendor A asked me to go as deep as I could into the make up of Vendor B's lights to confirm whether or not they'd been stolen from him. Lighting being pretty mathematical, it was easy to determine that yes, Vendor B had. But freckles? An entirely different story.... LOL

Paul, here's the thing... at least, from my POV. I like a lot of the people here, but, like you, I find the marketplace increasingly... skanky (I hope I can say that here. You cant at the DAZ fora, you know). But (no pun intended) emphasis on putting the tits out there — no matter what kind of outfit you may have on sale, apparently the only way to properly showcase it in the MP is with a thumbnail that's cropped between milady's throat and ribcage. The newsletters have gotten such that they look like those hooker magazines one can find all over Vegas. And when the new galleries were fired up, I was appalled to see that the images Rosity thought I (as a gay man, you understand) would like to see were photos of naked blonde chicks. Apparently this was the default until the algorithm had something to work with, but even now, when I go to the MP and I see what's "recommended", I start to wonder who programmed this site because I really have zip interest in teeny little negligees and morphing "see her strip for you!" underwear. If it's all a phase, as someone suggested, it's been a phase for a really long time. If you want a real giggle, look at the image that has the absolute, all-time most views. It tells you a lot.

But the great thing about the internet is that there are a lot of places to post your images now. I put my cartoon on about six sites in addition to its home page. If you havent checked out glossom, com, I suggest doing so. A lot of really good stuff happening there. Behance is another one, and the beauty of both is that they're still small enough that you dont get drowned in the onslaught like you would at DeviantArt. They're not Poser or DS exclusive, but that just makes things more interesting, IMHO, and you;ll find plenty of inspiration that goes well beyond NVIATWAS.

I also don't have a gallery here any more, and while I don't really mind the nudity thing, there seems little clothing for sale that isn't, let's say skimpy. What pushed me off Rendo was the extreme slowness of the site and the proliferation of third party advertising. Perhaps they slowed the site down to make us read the adds. And on top of that a lot of the old timers in the forums packed up and left this year saying they'd had enough. I have an uncomfortable feeling that both Poser and Rendo are in the same boat sailing off to oblivion and Daz will be all that's left. I hope I'm wrong about that.

I don't visit the galleries. Why? Because, it's generally either really weird, really bad or it's softcore porn. I don't have any issue with any of those, but there's no reason for me to waste time for them.

There HAVE been some really excellent renders, over the years. Some artists have a very nice style, too. But, good examples of these things seem few and far between, these days. I'd probably visit the galleries more often if I knew of quality renders, especially if the artist would give a good listing of the items used, textures, a brief synopsis of the lighting and any customized assets... Mostly, it's just "look at what I did" sort of stuff, I guess.

Back in 2002, the last time I was playing with Poser 3, we had "newsgroups" for poser art and 3d art in general. No moderators, post whatever you want. You quickly learned which posters to ignore and which ones to read. The art was varied and creative, with a fair share of nudity and softcore, but an awful lot of really good art too. When you posted something it lasted for a couple days, and then was gone, buried under the flood of new art coming in all the time. It was wide open and unsupervised, but it worked. I miss the newsgroups.

But even then the newsgroups were dominated by teenage boys who got Poser for the sole purpose of gawking at naked females and creating scenes of mayhem and destruction featuring giant weapons, battle-bots, and (of course) half naked women carrying giant weapons. In that respect, nothing has changed much in the 13 years since I last played with Poser.

I came back to Poser because now that I'm retired I thought I'd like to do a graphic novel just for fun. But what I have in mind involves 19th century period costumes, no nudity, no giant weapons, no mayhem and destruction. Just good story-telling (I hope). I guess I'm obsolete. But that's OK. I'll still enjoy doing what I enjoy doing. I'll find some place to post my art.

I just got an earful from a mother who's 5 or 6 year old boy was gawking over my shoulder in a food court and saw this. I think the advertisements on here should probably tone it down. As far as the gallery, stay within the TOS and post away. I have never said I am sorry so many times in 45 seconds in my life, and it wasn't pleasant and wasn't even my fault really. But I can see the point.

If I had a nickle for ever time a woman told me to get lost, I could buy Manhattan.

I find it annoying that that was my post the ad appeared over. But I guess there's nothing we can do about that. I came here to share my art and learn from the experts. I guess there's a price I have to pay for that. But I sure would enjoy seeing art that didn't center on half-dressed women, huge weapons, and death and destruction.

What about the idea of a juried gallery, a safe haven for art that isn't teenage boy bait.

Yeah, I was scrolling back up after I posted in your thread and bang! I was busted.

Sex sells, we all know that. I guess I will be more careful about where I sit in a public place from now on. At least until someone in charge of this site takes notice of all the complaints and does something about it.

Maybe that will happen. (sarcasm)

Rokket, I do wonder what she would've said if she'd taken a good look at the ad and said out loud what was so offensive.

I do not believe we should censor or inhibit anyone here from doing what they wish with their art. The art of Boris Vallejo and Frank Frazetta amongst others would be lost if people gave in to the puritan thoughts of a few. I shouldn't have to watch what I do because some mother was nosy and should've been watching her kids instead of an advertisement that showed nothing but a 3D pretty girl sighing happily at the taste of a good meal.

I have no problem with scantily dressed people, huge weapons, or death and destruction.

As far as Rendo's behavior This is the ad at the top my screen this very second. Rendo Ad.jpg

Looks like a cyborg, holding a gun. Probably on some half dressed woman.

And stop picking on teenage boys. They are what they are. Half the population.

Huh.. I guess it's a cultural thing..

If it was ME getting an earful from that mum, I would have told her to keep her brat in check and teach him not to stick his nose where it doesn't belong.. looking at other peoples computers is rude! Then I would have told her to mind her own business. I would certainly NOT have apologized! But then again, over here people would not have reacted to that ad anyway. Nudity is mostly considered natural and not dirty.

I can only guess you are American ;)

I am an American. I am also a Caucasian male, so I am wrong by default. I was on a Navy base when the incident occurred. They are too "politically correct" for my taste. What I wanted to say I didn't dare, lest I incur the wrath of some high ranking knucklehead trying to make it to a higher rank.

If I had a nickle for ever time a woman told me to get lost, I could buy Manhattan.

rokket, I feel your pain. I'm an american too and I do agree with DreaminGirl, peeking at another's laptop without permission is rude. However, I did my time on the wall and while like most men and women we were warriors in waiting, there is always some knucklehead trying to make it to a higher rank. Doesn't excuse those kids or their mom. I think I know you well enough to know you had to bite your tongue to keep from blistering that mom. I don't blame you for that. Most of us love our moms and respect all moms. Doesn't mean they are right in everything. It just means we cut them a little slack.

The teenage boy line was for fiziwig2. Teenage boys have it hard enough to just get through adolescence without being used to make a point.

As far as I can see, most follow the TOS and to get back on track with original topic, I don't think anything has gone wrong at all. I don't look at excessive gore because I don't wish to. I don't mind looking at beautiful renders of beautiful women anymore than I would complain about a Frank Frazetta cover or a Pin-up by Gil Elvgren. With respect to Sail Beyond the Sunset, I too, would love to live in a world designed by Maxwell Brand with buildings designed by Howard Rourke of the Fountainhead (A proxy for Frank Lloyd Wright). Let us not censor or berate those that design and build and create and render with their vision of life no matter how different it is from another's vision.

rokket ( ) posted Wed, 23 September 2015 at 1:27 AM

Well said. I am back on my ship now, in my room and no one peeking over my shoulder. I was in another thread that featured MY Wonder Woman costume, and I am creating a render for it. It seems one man's art is another man's filth. Oh well, diversity makes the world go around...

I have the up most respect for the U.S. Soldiers,That keeps me safe :)

I really hated how Vietnam Vets were treated.

I had a parent get bent over his kid seeing my Art when I had a web site.

His kid saw my url on my stat page of a War game.

So I told the parent he can get web child safety app's.

What struck me as funny was

The parent was upset his kid saw some sexy girls but didn't get up set that his kid plays War games.

So it's fine to blow up a city but don't look at the naked girls after you blow there close off.

I don't look that much in the gallery, but do agree that there are lots of half nude picture and "sexual" content available. But personally i don't mind that much, its all expression in my opinion. I used to do a lot of classical drawing and doing that it is very common that you draw nude people and a single drawing can take between 1-6+ hours. At first you have to get used to it as it can be a bit strange if you ain't. But its part of learning to draw humans, emotions, motion, weight, proportions etc . I doubt you will find a lot of very skilled artists that don't do croquis or have studied some sort of classic art etc. Its quite normal for anyone studying art. Why wouldn't people complain about all the famous artist, Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Rubens etc. loads of there art is fully naked people, babies. People getting tortured etc. If art doesn't push people or make them think, enjoy, despise or reflect about it, whats the purpose then?

To me at least art is art and we all like different types. but in the end, the most important thing is that they make people react, if people didn't. Art would be dead a long time ago. :)

And regardless of nudity, would anyone complain about Leonardo da Vinci or Michelangelo for making so many nude drawings and statues? At least i wont, they are absolutely amazing pieces of art. Anyway just my opinion :D

DreaminGirl ( ) posted Wed, 23 September 2015 at 5:52 PM

I really don't mind artistic nudity, I do a fair bit of that myself, but this 'slut-ception' wave that is going through the marketplace and community is getting rather old and ridiculous. How about something NEW for a change? Something that actually makes me want to buy something?

Morkonan ( ) posted Thu, 24 September 2015 at 5:02 PM

Just a note: This topic, or rather this theme of discussion, comes up fairly often. At times, it has "blown up" and caused some pretty big changes, here and there, to various sites in the community. In short:

This really isn't anything new.

But, in this instance of the ever-popular subject, I think that Renderosity may have a bit more relaxed product restrictions than some old-timers are used to seeing. Quite a while ago, I remember seeing the first truly suggestive BDSM product for sale on Renderosity. It wasn't that it was the first, it was that it was so stunningly presented and unabashedly ashamed. There's nothing wrong with that, but it was a bit of a wake-up call - Certain sites have more restriction on such content and, apparently, Renderosity has broadened its criteria for acceptable products. This "broadening" has been going on for quite awhile, though, with little comment from this community.

I don't care what people do with their software, as long as its legal. As it's likely that 90% of what a typical user does with Poser is related to personal porn, it's useless to try to pretend that unmentionables don't get mentioned and Tab A isn't put into Slot B in the majority of personal renders...

HOWEVER, and there is one exception to that opinion - Products that are sexually suggestive and renders that are so should be restricted content. That's really the only way to do it and to avoid future problems. (And, yes, that argument comes up every couple of years, sometimes leading the creation of new sites.)
