IT SEEMS THAT MY LAST IMAGES NOBODY CARES. The recent invasion of bad taste is more interesting, for sure.... :) The image posted in 12/28/2015 will then be my last picture on Renderosity after 10 years of activity and I've decided to erase my gallery. I thank all those who showed interest in my work. Shantay

I just take a look 187 views. Nobody cares? Take a deep breath before you delete your Gallerie.Which is btw very great.

And for the record, I think your Gallery is good Shantay. There's a lot of art being posted here so it's easy to get buried in the shuffle, I wouldn't let it discourage you. I hardly get any comments at all for my humble posts but I don't care, you should post your art and let it be I think. I'm not seeing what usefulness there is in not sharing something you've made, regardless of what the reaction is... after all, you're a landscape artist, it's not as if you're posting hideous, tacky PoserPorn.

I am extremely confused. I have double and triple checked what I'm seeing but still it makes little sense.

"The image posted in 12/28/2015 will then be my last "

I don't see any such image in your gallery. The newest image I see is from 2006.

shantay gallery.png

Also, I only see Terragen images in your gallery. Can you explain why you posted this in the Poser forum?

Perhaps the reason you get so little feedback is because your images are not being shown to us?

This site's software is extremely broken for the last year. It is totally possible that only rare, few users are being shown your images.

Perhaps a little OT, but the Poser art community seriously needs a populated, non commercial fronted, gallery/forum. Let's face it the community is forced to operate out of and underneath the motivations of 2 storefronts with a bottom line. That's no way for a healthy art community to function. Also agree with BB about this artist's choice of a place to post this...

EldritchCellar and Lowpoly. I'm a poserian artist, but now I've delete my Poser works made in recent years, as now I will erase the previous work done with Terragen. It's not narcissism ... I needed feedback and not just people watching the work of others people, without to tire the finger to make a comment. A negative comment would be welcome also. I do not understand everything you say, I don't speak English and your sarcasm is not usefull with me. I'm on Renderosity from 10 years (and I remain as a spectator, because many good artists are here ), enough to have understood that laziness in commenting is an endemic problem in of this place. As the bad taste .... But now is not a problem that concerns me. Thanks for your attention. Shantay

You know, if what you wish for is criticism to improve your art, have you considered posting it at deviantart and tagging it with 'critique wanted'? They have a function for it there, but I don't know how useful it is, never tried it myself. Basically, it will tag your image in a way that encourages people to write a critique for it.

shantay ( ) posted Mon, 28 December 2015 at 1:50 PM

Thank you, that's what I decided to do. It 's a big challenge for me, but may be a good change to go out of the "atmosphere protected" here, where often the images follow a specific style. I see less little fairy with trendy clothes in my future and.... I hope that all of us we will be happy :-)

chaecuna ( ) posted Mon, 28 December 2015 at 3:02 PM

As already advised, deviantArt. The basic (free) membership is more than enough. No "momies" telling you to behave (it is a community of grown ups). Beyond posting your images, become member of the appropriate groups (I presume Poser and Terragen related) and submit your deviations there for more visibility.

Morkonan ( ) posted Mon, 28 December 2015 at 4:55 PM

In today's era of incessant selfie pics and people rushing out to post how many cubic centimeters their last poop was and how long it took to flush down the toilet, it shouldn't be surprising that it could be barely possible, in between furious sessions of generating endless Poserpron and paying electric bills, that a personal image gallery on what is primarily a storefront website doesn't get a whole lot of attention by a great many users... and that some postings might not even see any comments or page-hits. OH THE TRAGEDY!

If one desperately wants feedback on something, one needs to do more than throw a needle into a stack of needles and then get upset when nobody comments on how special one's particular needle was. Instead, one must do the unthinkable and actually make an effort to... ask people to help oneself by commenting on one's work.

Ask - Post in the relevant forum and interact with people and ask them to comment on your work.

And, if that doesn't get one a response in one online community out of bajillions, then there are certainly others that one may try. There's no harm done and no insult to anyone by doing so. But, please, don't berate members because they did not fulfill your expectations, unasked, or your desires, demanded.

Deviantart is a great site and, as long as you actually interact with the community (ie: Friend/Follow everyone you ever see, ever, even if they're dead..) , you will be rewarded by people rushing to your posts and squealing in delight at your newest revelation. I highly recommend it to you. There are also plenty of websites out there devoted to whatever sort of imagery you like to generate. It's the grand Rule 34(a), the edited version - If people make pictures of it, there's a website for it. This might just not be the one where you will get the most attention for your particular passion.

Good luck and I truly do hope that you find a good community of like-minded artists.

It is a shame to see anyone go but if whatever you are doing is not meeting your needs, stop doing it.

I have recently deleted my library, which was also around ten years old, but that was due to the changes and the heavy use of the galleries for advertising by Rendo. I know they need to pay for the site but the advertising was overpowering the gallery in my view.

In my case I only ever really posted for two reasons, one was to show others how I was using products purchased here, and the second was that I was getting so many ideas from other peoples work I thought I ought to have some input. I did get some good comments and also useful criticism along the way which a was grateful on every occasion. As I have stopped spending here the first reason for me having a gallery is gone and, like the rest of the site, it is now so difficult to use I wonder why anyone would make the effort to look in the galleries anyway.

For all that still think it is sad when someone gives up and it surprises me that Rendo do not see that the more galleries there are, the more people will look and driving traffic to your site would seem a plus to me. The whole reason I got into this hobby at all was looking at gallery images and being amazed at what was possible, since then I have spent thousands of dollars.

The deletion of my gallery will be no loss to anyone but I know from thread like this that I am not alone and the wider picture is another negative for the 3D art community, as are all the people who have closed their account here or just do not visit as much.

I wish everyone a great 2016, even the Rendo team and I really do hope they improve on 2015 as they have not had a good year in my view.

SnipImage.jpg This is a simple example. The picture is excellent and had 87 view and 1 favorite. If someone had said more than "wonderful artwork" - for example that the legs and boots have a defect, it would help this artist.... Please, get out of your world of candies... ok ok... make the legs in this way is a new school of art and I should be quiet, now 😁 :

As others have suggested, if you are looking for critical comments then the Rendo gallery is probably not your best place to look for it. All my renders were set up for both favorable and negative comments and in over 250 images the negative comments were less than ten. It was not an issue for me and the few negative comments were usually constructive with suggestion on how to improve the image.

The 'I'll give you maximum stars if you do the same for me' groups seem to exist to some degree in most galleries so Rendo is no exception and the appreciation of renders is never static. I have examples of renders from years ago that I still love but can see flaw's that I never appreciated when I looked at them for the first time. There is also value in almost all renders and it was studying renders when I first started that helped me realise that I need to make sure that my characters had their feet on the ground, for the most part, and not hovering six inches in the air. I also found on my own it is easy to render and have part of the figure intersected by part of a prop in a manner that would be very painful in real life, so when I see that in some renders I know how easy it can be. Conversely, I was, and still am, blown away by some of the images that artists create, often with the same tools I am using. For many, 3D art is a lonely and little understood hobby and while I except it is not for everyone, having a gallery showing what is possible can be a real plus for the 3D community.

You want to be cheered, that's all. Yup that's a typical artist's disease. I know, it's hard to take if you don't feel appreciated enough. I guess more people here have the same problem as you. They just don't say and maybe this is better that way.

My Renderosity gallery gets very few comments.and Deviant Art Gallerys even less comments. If you want comments especially at Devaint Art you half to have the time to participate a lot. and it helps a lot to make popular Art.

Apparently Death Metals aka EldritchCellar ,RorrKonn's Art is not popular Art.

About every one walked out on Alice Coppers first show. He took it as a complement .

In the end, I now understand the necessity to make ONLY compliments in Renderosity. If criticisms are experienced as negatively, people hear something different from usual, so thinks, she has a problem. It was not necessary to take care of my mental state, but to see if something could be true, regardless of what I reported. Ok, not really matter ...

No, only get yourself a bullet prove cupid. I've done pictures myself, which I was completley excited about and only 5 comments? But that's the way it is. But go apreciate those who rated your work, liked your work, favourit your work, and made comments on your work. If you have only 5 fans here, then take care for those 5 and ignore the rest. It's like playing with a band. Even if it's a free gig. If you only have 5 visitors, then you give the best for those 5 visitors. Good opportunity say: "Thanks to everybody who liked my gallery and put all those nice comments to my work." :) :) :) Happy new year

Ok, well if you wish for a more serious discussion on the topic rather than staying lighthearted, please note the following important tip: if you want constructive criticism, you need to ask for it. Plain and simple. I would never consider saying anything negative about anyone else's artwork unless the artist specifically asked me for a critique, and even then I would go out of my way to find as much good as I could bad no matter how bad it might be - because most people put a lot of effort into their art and criticism is rarely if ever received as intended. Unless you specifically asked for critique on every piece, well then you can't blame people for not giving you what you wanted. Sadly no version of Rendo has ever included a "read the artists mind" button so none of the rest of us would have any clue that this was your desired intent unless you stated it clearly, loudly, and often.

Would be clear, you know if I spent all my time going through other peoples gallery postings. I don't. I rarely if ever get over to the gallery section myself, so unless someone posts something in a forum, eh, I'm not likely to see it. And honestly, even with that flag I'm not likely to leave critical feedback on someone else's gallery. It's way too easy for folks to take anything I might say personally, and since that isn't my desired result far easier for me to just avoid doing it all together. I've participated in some photography forums where people would post pictures they'd taken, ask flat out for critique, and then get highly offended when it was offered. So ya, I'll pass. YMMV of course.

bagginsbill ( ) posted Wed, 30 December 2015 at 3:30 PM · edited Wed, 30 December 2015 at 3:33 PM

I have no doubt that asking for critical comments will not get any if the asking is done in the gallery. If that's your point, I agree.

But you did say "Sadly no version of Rendo has ever included a "read the artists mind" button so none of the rest of us would have any clue that this was your desired intent unless you stated it clearly, loudly, and often." And that is why i showed that screen shot. Rendo does show the artist's mind on this point. If you don't look at the images anyway, that is no refutation of my point. People who want critical comments can ask for them explicitly in the UI at the time they post the image.

So really there are two issues - how to get somebody to participate in the gallery so they can see that you're asking for engagement with other artists, and then actually enaging, and the dangers thereof. You make some valid points on both those counts.

Yup.. That was pretty much what I was getting at. And no arguments here but I noticed when I uploaded that the "Both Critical and non=critical comments welcomed" seems to be the default setting, so I'd tend to take that with a grain of salt. Granted I guess you could leave a critical comment and if they got offended chastise them for not changing the default, but in my experience actual critique isn't usually what most people are after, seems like what they really want is a pat on the back. I'm ok with either myself really, I participated in a couple of photography forums when I first started to get serious about it as a hobby - and my initial attempts got a ton of critique.. some of it pretty harsh. One guy even suggested my best course of action would be to take the camera back to the store and ask for a refund.. lol. I thought that was mondo harsh, till I read the next comment and it suggested I buy a really expensive camera strap and use it to hang myself with.. lol.

But it all in all the majority of the critique helped me a lot and I didn't take any of it personally. But I found in leaving critique of my own I discovered pretty fast that even when people actually explicitly ask for it they often aren't really prepared to receive it, even if your like me and leave only comments you feel are constructive. So unless it's someone I know or someone that has posted enough that I can tell they are the sort who would take criticism well, honestly I avoid it like the plague. Again just my personal preference of course,

i seem to recall a number of years ago that we once had a Critique Forum, fledgling thing, barely off the ground by te time i bailed off the internet entirely.

it is a difficult thing to give someone honest feedback as one n'er knows in what spirit it shall be received. i've tried from time to time to leave feedback that always included what bits were truly well done, but also with thoughts i had that might serve to improve the image. usually such things were not received how i intended, even if i also took the time to write a private mail/sitemail to the person trying to explain my intent.

o'er the time i've been a member here, it has been rare that i received any critical feedback within the galleries that served to help me in any way; the few i had i recall to this day, things that continue to help me, and i cherish the thought that anyone actually cared enough to even bother with a comment outside of undeserved praises. as someone stated above, i think most folks post here more as a social thing [lots of true varied reasons fall within that category], and it's nothing more than just something fun to do, a hobby, with friends.

what i have found that works for me is having one or two friends where there is a strong sense of trust & care within the relationship. a real friend, typically, will have an 'investment' in you and will be more inclined to actually help, and if one happens to be overly sensitive, one would have, hopefully, an more open mind, or receptivity, to a voice of a friend, as the knowledge that a friend is not trying to intentionally hurt you would be a part of the dynamic.

i've a friend who posts here, who is quite talented, imo, and who shares things with me [progress, wip stuff], and who wants and asks for my feedback. i think my friend would say that i've helped through the feedback i give, and i, in turn, also learn a few things by being allowed TO provide honest feedback. i then am hopefully improving myself by giving feedback as well, as what i might point out are things i could p'raps apply to my own junk. and i do feel, that even if i cannot create things of my own that i feel well pleased by, or have the level of skill i so desperately wish i possessed, that i do actually have an 'eye' for this type of medium.

so my meager two cents is only just slightly different than what's been stated already - instead of joining groups, or pandering to your own 5 person fan base, put in time to cultivate a meaningful friendship with one, two or even maybe three people, who share your particular level of passion & motivation for creating in the first place. even better still, have one or more of those people be someone who creates things you truly admire, and who you might perceive as being better skilled than yourself...

and above all else, create for yourself, for just the simple joy of creating, and seek not the ideas of popularity or validation as they've really little relevance to art in the first place, i.e. learn to validate your art for yourself - after that, anything else could just feel like icing...

i stopped looking at gallery cuz those jumbo adverts were too distracting.

That was the reason I stopped looking and also the reason I deleted my own gallery.

I did get some constructive criticism on some of the images in my gallery but by far the most help I got was via the forums. In some cases I submitted an image but in most cases it was just a comment relating to what I wanted to do and there was always a good response to my questions and those of others. There were always the odd "dump Poser and use Daz" type responses but on the whole it was very positive. Over time the same names kept appearing and those people moved my skill set on quite considerably. Sadly many of those names do not post here anymore or if they do, they do so on a much reduced basis thanks to the ongoing problems with the site. No doubt 2016 will bring yet another upgrade and yet another set of problems.

I do miss many that were helpful but still use much of the information they were happy to share everyday. What saddens me most is that such help is slowly being lost to new comers and the community in general and it gets worse each time someone leaves or, maybe to a lesser degree, deletes a gallery.

I don't mind criticism constructive or other wise.but if your going to put your stuff out in the public .There's always critics.

I judge my own Art buy how close I got to the pic in my head and setting it next to killer Art in the same genre to see if it can hold it's own or not.

I am always very critical of my own work so I have no real problems on anything said about my renders although I do have a preference for constructive criticism. I have a photo book printed every year to eighteen months containing my favorite renders and I often spend time looking back at my own work. I still don't regard my renders as special in any wider sense but I am certainly better at getting the picture I have in my head onto the printed page. That is why I like galleries, they give me ideas and I can see how others have progressed, but it is no fun if you are fighting the gallery software to look at others work.

Shantay, I'm sorry I never looked at your artwork when you had it there. I don't browse the galleries much as I am too busy trying to make my own pictures and also I work too (to afford all my renderosity goodies hehe). If it was me I wouldn't really care if people looked or didn't look, commented or didn't comment. I like it if I get a comment, and I agree with you that -ve comments are the most useful. I thrive on constructive criticism. But I don't post to the galleries much. Anyway please do consider putting some artwork back again just so it's there if anyone wants to look. Love esther

MY ONLINE COMIC IS NOW LIVE

I aim to update it about once a month.  Oh, and it's free!

The OP has some choices. Leave the Poser work in the galleries here. Post to other galleries such as DAZ, DA, and RDNA as well as leaving them posted here. Create their own site with gallery and post to their heart's content. Or, as he/she has already done: pull all the Poser images from the gallery so there is no chance anyone will view them.

Which would the OP prefer? One or two views or no views? If it's not posted, it cant be viewed.
