Subject: I just upgraded to the GTX 980 Ti, how to get DS to recognize it

Hi, I have basically no hardware skills. I just upgraded to the GTX 980 Ti, The tech people at the store did the install for me. I got a bigger power supply and case so all seems to be well. I haven't done a render yet . I want to have a setup like Male_M3dia talked about in this thread. https://www.renderosity.com/mod/forumpro/?thread_id=2897671

I had them leave my original video card in so I could have DS rendering on the GTX 980 Ti and go on the web with the other card. When I go into the NVIDIA panel I only see the GTX 980 Ti. Does Ds recognize it automatically or do I have to "add" it to the programs in the NVIDIA panel? Also, I do not see the other card in the NVIDIA panel. Any advice on setting it up properly in the NVIDIA panel is much appreciated. Cheerio lululee

Did you check the Render settings panel in DS? The advance settings should show all the videocards in your system (if the OS recognizes them) and you can check which cards to be used by iray.

Hi Male_M3dia, The GTX 980 Ti does show up in the Advanced render settings. That is good. Now, If i want to set it up so I can go in the web with the other card like you did how would I do that. Cheerio lululee

The card that you have set up with your monitor is the one that would be used for the web, You would make sure that is unchecked for the card you use for iray.

Hi Male_M3dia, How would I find that? Is it pluged in with a cable or in the NVIDIA panel? I really appreciate your help. Cheerio lululee

The card that you plugged into your monitor would be the one use use with the DS and other apps. So if you want to use the better card with iray only, that should not be connected to a monitor; the old video card should be the one used. You could look at your screen set up (right click on your desktop I believe); that may say which card you have connected, if not, you'll have to ask the person that installed it (if you didn't) which card connected to the monitor.

Also note the card that is closest to the CPU is the card the Computer expects to use with the monitors. If it is set up right, the 980Ti should not be that card.

You may also wish to make sure your drivers are up to date.

Thanks so much Male-M3dia, You have given me so much help. Tomorrow I will ask the tech people how it is set up. Cheerio lululee
