Subject: Conforming clothes and hair animation

VirtualWorldDynamics ( ) posted Wed, 13 January 2016 at 2:26 AM

@shedofjoy : The next version will include a checkbox that will mean that this is a new animation. The choice of default value is not easy, because in case of chaining simulations, it is imperative to retain the previous animation.

I think I can tell you, without errors, that VWD should soon be available on Renderosity. ;-))

There are the first discussions of a collaboration in order to also provide a version for DAZ Studio and Carrara. For now, I have not found a way to satisfy people working on Mac, but I think we must go step by step. Sorry!!!. For the moment.

I have found motion capture files which include the dance animation that I had published on Youtube. (At the time, I did not know). There are some changes to be done in the animation, but there are no major inconsistencies.

Here is the address: https://sites.google.com/a/cgspeed.com/cgspeed/motion-capture/daz-friendly-release

I have made a new fun video using one of these motion capture files that I will publish today.

Oh thanks Biscuits!

I tried a more complex scenario with Genesis 3 female seated on a chair and MFD. I hope to share something later. For me VWD can also be used by people like me who don't render animation but want to improve their conforming clothes and VWD offer functionalities we don't have in the clothe room
... and I wait for the next release!

Yes! what a brillant catwalk made by poor Victoria!😆

Hi, my guess is the way macsavers is using this software is by just booting into windows eg parallels or some other emulating software where you really have to install windows. but I've been trying my best to avoid really putting windows on my mac. Crossover just makes windows software think that the software is on the mac when it isn't, which would have been a much better solution for me, however I can't get it to work (although I may be doing something wrong I suppose). Perhaps if you make the software not needing poser and python, but totally stand alone, then it might work in crossover.

Since Python is Poser only, there's not way to make it work with Daz, but Python works on the Mac and Windows. The problem is how it hands off the information. On Windows it requires elements that the Mac doesn't have. Until we have a working Mac version of VWD, there's no way to get it working. I also have Crossover and have tried several options to try and get it to work, but there are just certain underlaying elements in VWD that just don't work yet via Crossover. As great as Crossover is, there are quite a few programs, mostly niche programs like this, that don't work well with Crossover.

VWD has stated though that he wants to create a Mac version. It's just not his focus right now as he needs to get the first version out the door and then work on the options from there. While I detest Windows with a passion, for many reasons, there are some types of software that require it. if you own Poser you can install it on a Windows Virtual partition, so outside of needing Windows, there is no extra cost for it. What a lot of people fail to realize though is that if you want to run Parallels and/or Fusion, you are supposed to own a copy of Windows. So it's not a cheap solution that many think it is. There is a free virtual solution for Windows out there. I believe it's a port of Wine from Linux. I tried it once, but it didn't do very well, but that was years ago.

So, if you want to use it now, you'll have to find a Windows solution. No one said being a dedicated Mac user was easy. It's just more rewarding. ;-)

From what I am able to piece together, the Poser version should be available here on Renderosity sometime soon. The DS version is in the works, but won't be anytime soon. Hopefully this year, but who knows for sure.

It's great to see what others are doing with this software.

I haven't anything great to show but, since I've put up a couple of videos, perhaps they may be of interest.

The first is Roxie and the clothing is just a very loose-fitting item I made in Hexagon. This is 70 frames and the animation is nothing more than movement of limbs.

https://youtu.be/djU-K-_fZ2Y

The second is V4 with a bought item of clothing. I've moved the figure from a 'T' pose to two other standing poses over 120 frames and have kept all settings at the default values.

VirtualWorldDynamics ( ) posted Sun, 24 January 2016 at 5:15 AM

I give just some news to say that I just wrote the function of dynamic modifications of a cloth or a hair using the mouse.

I think that this feature is more interesting for people who wish to make renderings poses, but I wrote this function so that it can also be used to correct animations, ie locally modify the dynamic object in a particular frame.

I will certainly do a video showing all the possibilities of this new function.

I can say that VWD will work soon for Carrara and DAZ Studio using a collaboration. I also think I can say that the sale of those other versions will also be made in Renderosity.

@VirtualWorldDynamics: is this feature similar to Marvelous Designer where you can use the mouse to click on a spot on the cloth and then drag it around dynamically to adjust the cloth's position? If so, this definitely would be a very useful feature for people who do static renders so they can tweak the final results. I look forward to seeing a video that demonstrates how it works!

@MrFiddles22 : I understand your question about the future support due to the material protection. For now, I'm in full development and I do not intend to stop. In the event that I can no longer send a code corresponding to a particular machine, I can tell you that when I create a new version of the program, I actually creates 3 versions:

  • Normal protected version
  • Demo version
  • Protected against reverse Engenering release without material protection. If I cannot send more code, it is this version that will be sent to Renderosity. I hope I answered your question.

I have some problems with the new version and its dynamic movement. I will probably take one week or two before to finish it.

I just released three new videos on YouTube showing the new features of VWD.

These videos are unfortunately in French for now. I will try to republish them in English at the end of next week.

Physical protection is actually a problem for the distribution of VWD. After careful reflection, I have decided to remove it. This will allow to see very quickly VWD on sale at Renderosity. This will also simplify, for me, the distribution of the program.

Here is my last project: G3F and the babydoll clothe went through VWD because the conforming wasn't good. I have ideas to improve the result with the new functionnalities.

I hope the next version will come soon!!

@NolosQuinn : This new version will be available at the end of the week. I prefer to do some additional tests to make sure of proper operation. The simulation with the stockings, does not need a new feature of VWD. You can do it with the current version.

@Smaker1 : Thank you for this beautiful rendering. You are right, the dynamic deformation feature solves many problems.

@shedofjoy : You can buy directly VWD via PayPal. Its price, in this case, is 50 Euros. It will be very quickly sold on the Renderosity's Market. Its price, in this case, will be 69 Dollars.

piersyf ( ) posted Wed, 10 February 2016 at 1:38 AM

I may have missed an answer to this already but how are people dealing with heavy clothes? I tried using a heavy wool coat (pea coat model) and when V4 bends her arms her elbow comes through the sleeve then the sleeve rolls off her completely. I need to set stiffness appropriate to the fabric, but then her arms are extremely limited in how far they bend... coat.jpg

-Timberwolf- ( ) posted Wed, 10 February 2016 at 7:21 AM

Wait a minute. Is this a Poser plugIn? Is there a DS version also? Is this a stand allone app? Free donwloads seem to be Poser only. How did people make G3F cloth simulations here?

VirtualWorldDynamics ( ) posted Wed, 10 February 2016 at 11:04 AM

@Timberwolf : VWD is an standalone application. it communicates with Poser through Python scripts. Thanks to the competence and the work of @Philemot, the Carrara and DAZ Studio versions will operate on the same principle.

@piersyf : I think there are two problems in the rendering you show.

  • The mesh appears to have very large meshes.
  • The arm of the character seem to pass through his body. Here are the methods to correct this simulation.
  • Correct the pose if possible to avoid interpenetrations.
  • Refine the mesh of the cloth using the "make compatible" function.
  • Increase the character's collision distance. If the pose can not be changed:
    • Use the functions of the "interactions vertices" to prohibit collisions between vertices of the cloth and those of the character that are problematic.
    • Use the "Nail to collision" so attach the parts that have tendency to behave badly on the character. A bit like the stockings vidéo.

@NolosQuinn : You can further improve the stockings simulation by adding a slight elastic function (95% for example) on all the mesh.

Smaker1 ( ) posted Thu, 11 February 2016 at 2:15 AM

@Timberwolf I couldn't wait for the DAZ plug in! Like I have Poser and don't do animation renders, my workflow is simple:

In DS4, I make my scene:

  • I load G3F (morphed, posed, ...) and the clothe (conformed).
  • I make some basic adjustment on the clothe (no poke through, basic movement if needed).
  • I export two objects (standard DS4 > Poser export without material ) : one for G3F, one for the clothe.

In Poser:

  • Import both and then VWD simulation
  • After simulation: some smoothing, adjustment (like all dynamic simulation!)
  • I export the dress from Poser and reload the dress in DS4 (standard DS4 > Poser options)

This basic scenario can more complex depending on the scene: pose, clothe,... (like all dynamic simulation !!) And yes if I change the pose or the morph of G3F I must do a new simulation (like all dynamic simulation !!!) but the result is there. My babydoll example (simple) took 1 mn import/export and simulation another one.

In the picture a scene in progress: G2F (Josie morph and posed) and Malaik outfit for V4 from Arki (two separate simulations for dress and outerskirt and some tricks for the belts, keys, jewels!). It's my most complex scenario. I tried to do the same with the clothe room but everything freezed. The result is far better than the included morphs (even if they are good: I love Arki clothes!) and I don't have the standard crotch trouble of dress conformed to Genesis.

My trouble now is that I have plenty of clothes for which I want to do dynamic simulations :-)

Hi folks,

Maybe I'm being stupid here, but I'm having problems figuring out how to start the tool. I use a separate runtime folder, which is located on a different drive to my Poser exe, though I have placed the folder from the zip file into both this runtime and the default Poser runtime. I just can't find it in the scripts list in Poser. I've tried loading the application on its own from the folder but I get an 'impossible' message in French and it won't close the exe down without terminating it in the task manager.

I'm doing it wrong, I must be. Can anyone advise, please? By the way, I'm running PP2014

Hi Glen,

I'm no expert with Poser runtimes but I think it is probably a good thing to simply unzip the VWD package into an easily-reached folder created specially for it. The program creates and uses a set of folders (Exchange, etc.) of its own and if you ever need to do some housekeeping you can do so without searching through runtimes.

Glen ( ) posted Sun, 14 February 2016 at 9:52 AM

Thank you.

I managed to get it working and tried out some basic work with AlfaSeed's Desir Hair and the V4.2 figure performing a simple 30 frame nod of the head. Unfortunately, it seems I'm in the rather unique position of not having a scroll wheel (I use a trackball), so I'm unable to zoom in the scene viewer. I followed the tutorial in the pdf but the hair stayed in place. Any suggestions, please?

I really am quite a novice with Poser but I'll try!

When I've wanted to simulate hair, I too have only followed the tutorial. In Poser I fit the hair to the character. The hair should move with the character's head before going in to VWD's program. Is that happening?

Then, once the figure and hair have been selected in VWD go to the scene viewer. You need to paint some vertices on the figure's head and then -on the 'Hair Parameters' tab press 'Compute Head Vertices'. (Paint with mouse click and drag; remove vertices with Alt mouse click and drag).

Then press 'Show Hair Vertices' and then Generate Springs and Finish'.

Now you can go to the 'Simulation Parameters' tab and run the simulation.

I haven't compared the above with the tutorial steps in the manual but have just run such a simulation. On my system I sometimes run out of memory with some of my hair assets, otherwise the above works OK.

Edited for clarity

Glen ( ) posted Sun, 14 February 2016 at 11:12 AM

Thanks for your reply. I think I know what I'm missing then, I haven't been 'painting' anything. I can't do anything in the scene viewer as, even in fullscreen, I can't get close enough to see what I'm doing.

Perhaps an update which allows zooming with the plus and minus keys, or while holding down a key such as 'alt' and dragging the mouse would be good.

Thanks,

Glen.

Grimhilda ( ) posted Sun, 14 February 2016 at 12:29 PM

It seems to need another half hour! The video is very short and in real-time apart from a few moments I cut out while zooming in on the simulation to avoid the full unclothed figure being shown. When I paint the hair vertices I click and drag, then add more with Ctrl click and drag. The program should have a drop-down list of pre-sets for popular figures to automate this but I don't have any list. The hair I used is Ibby Hair and I've done nothing to cater for the bows in it. Also I haven't started with any morph - which VWD would recommend trying, depending on desired results.

This simulation is actually using movement which is really too fast and would need refinement because there is a touch of penetration of the at the back towards the end. It doesn't show in the simulation from the angle it's viewed from and is actually the only time that has happened for me with this hair.

Glen ( ) posted Sun, 14 February 2016 at 12:51 PM

Thank you. So if I go in and select the V4 preset, which selects V4's scalp area, that would suffice? I can select the 'cap' area of the Desir hair and this highlights all of the vertices of the cap. Would I need to select anything else? Manual selection is really lagging for me and making it very difficult to use.
