This is an excellent product idea. I think there are a couple of vendor items that come close but really a line of clothing laid out or in a pile would be used a lot. In theory it could be done with dynamic clothes (as there are some bed sheets that sort of do that)....
The dust settled, thinking "what a fine home, at least for now" not realizing that doom would soon be coming in the form of a vacuum cleaner.
Indeed, I haven't really dabbled with dynamic clothing but it would be worth looking into if it solved the problem. As regards it being a product idea. I entirely agree. For the right product I would happily part with cash to possess it. I would value this product at around £16.00 if it ticked the all the boxes for me. Not sure what anybody else would pay but that's it's value to me.
The question is how many others would pay. I am guessing there must a fairly sizeable market for this as nothing appears to fill this gap yet.

It would be easy to do in cloth room. Just take the item you want to have on the floor. Go into the cloth room & let it sim but make sure it's set to collide with the floor. Shouldn't take more than a few minutes on a quick system. Then if you want to save it for later, save it to the prop folder.

Well first of all it is not as simple as loading it into the cloth room, selecting the do not collide with the floor button and pressing simulate. As I suspected I need to get the manual out.
I'll get my reading glasses on tomorrow and learn how to do this properly.

Ummm - you need to make sure that the cloth does collide with the floor otherwise it will drop right through it. (unless the do not was a typo)

As regards the collide with the floor typo it was more a case of me typing without thinking about it logically LOL.
It's about time I started using the cloth room anyway, this will be a good motivator to learn.

The cloth room can be helpful for this, although it can be tricky with some things. As an example of how I overcame this problem, I shall link to my gallery featuring my character, Sasha. There is a lot of nudity involved, so please bear that in mind.
What I did was take the Hot Summer 2009 bikini by Powerage and export each item to my 3D application, where I removed the knots and extended the strings to compensate, remapping these extensions to suit my needs.
I then imported each item back and manually applied the same materials as the bikini which was previously worn by Sasha in the previous renders and then simulated the cloth from there.
There was a lot of trial and error involved, but I think it worked out ok, for the most part.
Also be aware that some conforming items have completely separate meshes for things like cuffs, collars, tubing etc, and will likely mess these up during the simulation.

Hi all,
Just come back to this thread having finally had the time to start teaching myself how to use the cloth room. Early results are encouraging and this method has given me what I wanted originally so thanks everyone for the advise and guidance.
The one thing I am struggling with now is having created my discarded clothing when I save it as prop and then reload it again is has reverted back to the pre-simulation form. How do I maintain the simulations effects when saving as a prop?

Never mind. I've just figured it out. I exported the flattened clothing as a wavefront object, then re-imported it again and then saved it as a prop.
It that the correct way to do it or is there an easier way?

Hmmm... I simply saved the final simulation as a new prop, like 3DFineries suggested in post #4. Not sure why that didn't work for you...
To make sure I really did what I thought I had done, I just reloaded the saved prop into a new scene:

Hi all,
I am frequently finding that my work would benefit from a prop, figure or group of the same that did the following:
In this way if in my stories a person sheds an item of clothing I can apply a texture to the discard clothing prop so it looks like the item of clothing on the floor is the one the figure was previously wearing.
Does this sort of thing exist? Or is this something someone could make?
At the moment I mess about with the scales and parameters to try and achive this but it looks unconvincing.
