Hi Everyone -

We are trying to gather as much information as we can about the software you are using and what you are using it for. Please answer the following poll so we can continue to work towards helping this Community be as strong as it possibly can be and make any adjustments necessary.

Please see HERE to participate in the Poll:

I answered ALL the questions and gave details. When I pressed Submit Answers I got the following message: You did not answer all of the questions. Please press "BACK" on your browser and answer all questions.

I went back and all the info I had typed was gone and now I'm just too bored and lazy to redo it especially since I notice at the top of the page where the poll is and right under the Renderosity logo it has the following: ERROR: bwcore element file "insertnumusers" doesn't exist. currently online

This leads me to believe that even if I went through the poll again I'd probably end up with the same error as the first time. Fix the forum software first and then try having polls, this endless frustration with this site for over a year now is the biggest problem and not the software we use.

Wen I click on the link in the post, I get this survey.JPG

no questions. I had to click on the blue community software poll to get to the survey. Can't we just link directly to the survey itself?

Also, if there is an optional question (#2 says if you chose other... ) you might not want to require all questions to be filled out, just a thought.

I did manage to complete the survey (only because I'm obviously smarter than the script kiddie who coded the thing) and left a comment here. That comment has (not surprisingly) been deleted. What a bunch of stumblebums. When they get assimilated by the Daz Borg and lose their jobs I'm gonna laugh myself silly.

You did not answer all of the questions. Please press "BACK" on your browser and answer all questions. This is the same message I got when I first tried it. Then I realized I had followed the instructions and NOT answered a question that it said I didn't have to, depending on how I'd answered Question 1. But the stupid thing wanted an answer there anyway, so I just told it it was broke and sent it again. Had no problem then, just don't leave any field blank. Even if you only type in a string of nonsense characters it should go through as long as it doesn't detect empty space where an "answer" ought to be.

Sorry all, this should now be working right as I just tested it.

Please try to complete it again and let me know if you have any trouble.

This was my fault as I had one of the questions set up wrong as this was my first poll and now I know for next time 😞

@kittykat98 - I do not see that any comment was deleted, please tell me who left the comment as I was the one who created the poll and I did not comment here previously.

PS. It's never laughable for anyone to lose their job.

I'm not sure what the poll is trying to gauge. Is it to determine which programs I use most, which programs are in my tool-chain, or what it is I'm trying to do? I would have listed the common modeling programs, the sculpting programs, and the general purpose tools separately and allowed more than one pick for each one. For example, I might use Wings to model, 3D-Coat to re-topo, Poser to rig and Reality to render. Another user might model in Silo, detail and re-topo in zBrush, rig in Daz|Studio and render in Carrara... What programs I have/use doesn't seem like useful info if you don't ask how I am using them or what I am trying to do. But then again, the survey doesn't make it clear what you are trying to find out. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but I would have happily answered more questions once I was committed to taking the survey. I understand that it was not asking our opinions about the programs we use.

sigh I don't expect Renderosity to be versed in multivariate regression analysis, but you should at least have a basic understanding of what you're trying to discover when you ask questions. Go grab a copy of the Dummies Guide to Statistics. Now do you understand what you did wrong? You now have the opinions of people who are bothered to take a survey...you did NOT poll a representative cross sample of users. All your data is garbage and won't tell you anything meaningful. From much study in the field, I know that your respondents are likely polarized. Folks who are either wildly enthusiastic or (like me) hate corporate ignorance and shortsightedness and find your software to be crap.

This ^

The survey left me thinking hmm ,,why dont you just ask what you we likely all know you really want to ask??

I'm not complaining about the survey because I'm not the one who will be trying to glean useful info from the responses. I've been a part of this community for years, and my enthusiasm for Poser is kind of at a low right now. But I do like this site and would love to answer any questions that would help those who run it to make it even more useful for the community.

Did I fill in a different survey?

The one I filled in asked which software I use the most, what other software I use and then it asked how do I use each piece of software.

Seemed pretty straight forward. :)

My one concern is that the survey is lost among the long list of jumbled announcements and stickies

Has this site degenerated so far that we now make fun of people and wish them ill because they did something in a way we don't approve of? So what if a forum poll isn't top notch market research?

The problem is that they will be making decisions based on the information that they gather. 'Rosity has once again screwed up, from the floor up.

Or as they like to say in Computer Science classes, GIGO Garbage In, Garbage Out.

Surveys are useless. Always have been, always will be. If Rendo wants to know about what apps their members use, they should send out a questionnaire.

kittykat98 ( ) posted Fri, 02 September 2016 at 4:07 PM

Surveys are highly accurate tools.....if administered properly, according to well proven scientific principles, by people who know what they're doing.

Perhaps the forum poll was simply to gauge what forums need to be kept, which need to be dropped and how many they have that are unused despite the userbase being fairly large at the site? Not everything is about the marketplace. I could be wrong though but it would seem useful to know that there's a large community of users interested in a particular software so that I can build a forum around it and provide training either for free or at cost. Let's not bash on the staff without knowing their intent. I mean, just as an example, let's say people wrote in "I use Substance Painter" and then explained how and why. Now let's say the number of people who did were fairly high in the number of responses they got. Well now, look at that, we've got a software community that we're not paying attention to, let's build a forum for them. Or hey, nobody said they were using X software but we've had a forum for a few years now and only 8 people post every few months. Maybe we should toss it? Decisions like that can be helped with a poll like this I think. Especially if you're more interested in active users as opposed to the nonvocal majority who are part of an email list but don't actually post or even frequent the site. At least that's how I see it. I'm not an expert on the subject though.

kittykat98 ( ) posted Mon, 05 September 2016 at 5:00 PM

Then they should have asked if there was interest in a forum for users of software X. I very strongly suspect that this was a veiled attempt to ascertain the relative number of Poser and Daz users. Likely so that they can make a sales pitch to the Daz-Borg-collective.
