Subject: Weird rendering issue - (Cinderella Gown right sleeve)

Carnwel ( ) posted Sat, 20 August 2016 at 3:59 AM · edited Sun, 01 December 2024 at 1:49 PM

I’m having one of those infuriating Daz Studio moments and wonder if anyone could help as its driving me crazy.

The scene is loaded, everything is fine with the exception of the right sleeve of the Cinderella Gown, for some reason, it renders much lighter than the left sleeve.

I’ve checked all the surface perimeters and both sleeve appear to be set to identical parameters (although they use different textures), it’s not a lighting issue as the problem is still there if I turn the figure 180 degrees, it does not appear to be a texture issue and both sleeves on preview appear identical (the difference in tone only appears on type render).

I’ve tried rendering in 3Delight and IRay and get the same problem so I assume the issue is not in render settings, It's probably something really really simple that I'm overlooking - but I appear to have run out of obvious options on how to fix it.. so, any ideas?!

Have you tried removing and loading a new set?

Yup, also tried rebooting Daz Studio, the system just in case

OK I'm getting this as well, tried a few things and couldn't work out what the problem is. I took the texture map into Photoshop and flipped the Right sleeve diffuse texture so it becomes the the same as the left sleeve, and used this, both sleeves then render the same, but I can't see any difference in the textures maps, its rather weird. I would report it to Daz.

Thanks, that worked - although I had to jump through some unexpected hoops. Flipping it and resaving it did no good, so I tried the problem texture on the arm I knew was working... same issue, which meant I at least knew it was definately the texture.

Ended up cutting the texture from the working side, pasting it into a enw document in photoshop then saving it under a brand enw name and importing it manually... then it worke fine.

Weird, but sorted - thanks :)

I think you're on the right track. I have noted that when the maps are universal (one map to rule them all), sometimes something slips through. Or the way the artist set them up was not the look I was going for. Geometry/cutout opacity maps are famous, as are translucency and specular. There have been times where the only option was to discard the map for a particular section and trial and error it manually, or substitute a different map.

That sounds like the gamma setting is off for one of the maps - find the property with the map (probably Base colour) in the Surfaces pane, click on the mini thumbnail to the left, and from the menu select Image Editor - that should show the current gamma value. Make sure both sleeves use the same value (and use the same value as the body). if a mismatch is the issue please report it as a bug, assuming you have checked there is no update for the product.

I had the same problem with Sarsa's Fire Lilly outfit. I resaved the diffuse texture under another name and it came out fine. Good, I thought, so I move the old texture out and renamed it to original name. Then it goes back to same problem.

As near as I can tell, it does not like texture beginning with lower case letter and ending in 01.

For cinderella ball gown, I rename sleeve from "sCLeftSleeve01" to "SCLeftSleeveA1" and it works fine. Don't know why.

I am putting quick render of gown with only name change of diffuse texture on sleeve
