Subject: Why has this forum become a ghost town?

skee ( ) posted Wed, 13 July 2016 at 10:15 PM ยท edited Thu, 12 September 2024 at 8:36 PM

I use to like to see all the comments and new ideas on this site, I've been around almost from the beginning. I have not added much to the site, but I have learned a lot. I do not feel I have the talent or the ability of most of you. I hate to see this all end. It is like walking through a ghost town and looking a what use to be. If most people are leaving because they want it to be like it use to be, who will be here to use this new way? If you want to stay a place where people will visit, change it to what people want, not to what you want. Where have all the people gone. If no people , then it will be a ghost town. Sorry to see it die. skee.

Hello Skee

To some degree I agree with you and there has been a bit of a drop in some participation after the turmoil that went on during the beginning half of the year. But things are starting to come back perhaps a little slowly but things are changing for the positive. Many of us staff and members alike still strongly believe in the community and the site itself. There have been many changes with in the last several months some that caused problems and many of those have been addressed and fixed. Change comes with growing pains and stumbling but I feel we are starting to regain our balance and you will see things coming back to a norm that we will all grow from so hang in there and do not give up on the community or on the site.

**"I use to like to see all the comments and new ideas on this site, I've been around almost from the beginning.โ€

I go way back as well from early days of Renderosity. My user name was something like Wynter, or Wynter9...I forget.

โ€œI have not added much to the site, but I have learned a lot. I do not feel I have the talent or the ability of most of you.โ€

I understand how you feel Skee in a way...in that I too have felt I don't have the talent that many others here do. Mainly in regards to Poser (which I forgotten a lot of and Daz Studio where I'm have trouble finding good ways to render without a Nividia Graphics Card).

But I've decided to take the plunge, and Iโ€™m going to add a bunch of images to my gallery. You see, I'm what I call myself a "Photoshop Digital Crafter". Why? Because I just take pieces parts of renders and craft my renders in PS. I don't even morph at this time as I know I can piece together an image that looks like it was morphed.

โ€œI hate to see this all end. It is like walking through a ghost town and looking a what use to be. If most people are leaving because they want it to be like it use to be, who will be here to use this new way? If you want to stay a place where people will visit, change it to what people want, not to what you want. Where have all the people gone. If no people , then it will be a ghost townโ€.

Its like what Lobo and Kristi said above. There have been changes here and Iโ€™ve seen the complaints, and the โ€œSorry but I gotta goโ€ threads, etc.

โ€œSorry to see it die. skee.โ€

Just do what Iโ€™ve decieded to do and check all the notifications for threads I receive by email. That is how I found this one. Also since I do have a roadmap for a small corner of the massive program aka Photoshop, I visited the PS Forum and answered what questions I could.

So, just jump in, the waterโ€™s fine /;)

Thanks, sorry it took so long to reply. By the way, I still have all the posers 2-9, but I like 7 the best.

Hi Skee,

Great to see you are still here - do you still do those beautiful paintings?:)

Eshal, Great to hear from you. I see you are still here also. I still do paintings, good to know you still remember me.

I'm just old as dirt and not smart enough to do anything else, that my excuse!

I'm into Poser since version 4. I had C4d too. Coming from scetches I started 3d with passion and excitment, knowing I am right in the middle of a rising new technologie. 3d arts has been a mistery to the majority of people around me at that time. To work with a complete 3d figure was just amaizing. Now this is 16 years ago, and we've got used to some quality standarts - even as plain hobbyists. This forum truley lost its audience at the same time I start loosing interest. It was the time, when more and more people became disapointed about Poser software. You could see it first in the galleries. Less Poser pictures, but more DAZstudio pictures. Less 3d, more photo-art. As far as I can tell, the sellings of desktop PC is decreasing also. It seems that their high performance is not a priority anymore. Maybe that 3d hype is just over. People like to play more with their smartphones today. Are they doing anything else, anyway?

skee ( ) posted Fri, 22 July 2016 at 1:12 PM

The world does change. The people who create 3d art will continue and any art form for that matter. We will find a way. Some of the younger people will look up from their phones and see there is more to the world than self. "May you never thirst"

I dunno, I just got two bigger, better machines so I can do all that 3D with abandon ;). If the 3D community is going anywhere I'm not - at least not from the hobby anyway. As for community websites, let's just say I can do without the negativity, so ANY that I visit, I now visit less and less.

Little by little things are starting to pick back up.

There are more activities on the site and I've started to weed out some of the negativity so hopefully things will continue to get better.

All good things take time and we are heading in the right direction.

Thank you all for your support and participation as I really appreciate it ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

This reminds me of a saying I once heard.... " I have spent all my days stringing and unstringing my instrument and now my song remains unsung."

Just a thought.

I think the 3d sites have their ebb and flow, just like many things...there are blow-up and from them a new configuration rises bringing new things into the mix. Change can be painful, but can often be for the better :)

I am just plowing through all my old stuff archived to see what I can polish up and put into freestuff when I have the time from work. Goodness knows the 3d community has supplied me with many inspirations and freebies over the years :)

Also like to point out that the freebie threads here are rarely useful at all anymore because they are only about freebies on Renderosity-- anyone can find those, they're right at the top of "what's new" when the thread is made or updated here. Now the only useful thing about this forum is tutorials on how to use certain freebies and teasers for upcoming freebies, both of which are a rarity. Or for freebies completely unrelated to 3D, such as music (2d textures, backgrounds, photoshop/gimp brushes/gradients/palettes, photoshop actions, and photoshop styles all fall under "competing products".) I don't know if fonts count as competing products or not. Gimp scripts/plugins might not be acceptable as the places that host them are usually either competing sites or forums that might not fall under the category of "trusted sites"
On top of all of that, the ToU is very incomplete, vague, and gives very little clue as to what is and is not okay to link to, which likely contributes to far fewer people linking to non-competing external sites than might otherwise be.

IceEmpress - I have stated we are talking about linking and I will make changes to the TOS once the clear cut lines have been established.

We have our company meeting next month and will be discussing this as a team then.

The concept of not being able to post links to required items is a bit lost on me considering that ad/sponsor links to red flagged sites apparently are allowed and "that does not compute". The concept that most people are "lurkers" instead of "posters" is not new and not a problem BUT when the mods are also not actively involved in the forums, "that does not computer". Thank you for the free space for the freebies however I'm moving on for now. All the best with your sorting.

KristiS ( ) posted Wed, 14 September 2016 at 10:18 AM

Hi boudicca36 -

Can you please tell me what "red flagged" sites you are referring to and what forums you are talking about when you state the Mods are not involved?

You can site mail me if you'd like.

Thank you,
