New Poser Users Help F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Oct 29 6:40 pm)

Hello No, there is no Renderosity install manager.
Now for DSON
Unzip it and copy the contents to your Poser 10 Program. NOT your runtimes…. But to the folder that has your poser exe in it.
Once that’s done
Open Poser and Map your DS runtime as a Poser runtime.
To do this click the Plus button in the upper right corner of the poser library and navigate to your DS Library.
Once this is done you will need Poser companion files, as well as the DS versions. You must install both, the DS files to your DS Library and the companion files to your poser library.
Good luck!!

If you have installed Poser to the default locations, the folder you are looking for will be in Program files (x86)/Smith Micro/Poser 10 As far as Renderosity content is concerned, just download the zip files. Then in Poser 10 you can go to the content room (the last tab along the top of the document window, the one after setup. You can then just click on the install from zip archive button. Poser will give you a choice of all the runtimes you have in your library, choose the one you want to put the content in and poser does the rest. (I've only ever had one item from here that this didn't work for, and that was a very old one.)
So, I see the DSON folder in my poser library. Could you restate the following and possibly make even more simple for me? " Once this is done you will need Poser companion files, as well as the DS versions. You must install both, the DS files to your DS Library and the companion files to your poser library." Still a little fuzzy on how to do this.
The poser files are easy... you just unzip them to what ever runtime you are using.
These will be called CF files or Companion files or very rarely DSON files.
The DAZ files must be installed to DAZ Studio. DSON is a python script that lets the DS items work in Poser. The items are REALLY in the DS Libary but DSON plays errand boy and runs around and fetches them to play in Poser.

To clarify, not all DAZ3D content have poser companion files, you will mostly see these files associated with Genesis and some Genesis 2. Genesis 3 does not translate well to Poser via DSON, you need a different approach involving a 3rd party script found here in Rendo. So I wouldn't make heavy investments into Genesis series until you get the hang of Poser first.
Don't feel embarrassed at all. It is and always has been a lesson in futility for 99% of Poser users. Forums are full of these discussions and honestly no one has found a "correct" way of doing it. Some "say" they have had no troubles but cannot explain with any clarity at all.
Try all hints and advice but don't worry if you fail miserably and give up. I have given up and countless others have as well. It's probably best to download DAZ and render etc from within the program that invented it.
I rarely use the DSON importer but the way I use it is as follows. Firstly unzip the file and install the DSON importer, As I said before this goes in the folder in the program files(x86) Smith Micro poser 10 (This can only be manually installed. The runtime file merges with the runtime in this folder.) You can check that it has been installed in the right place by clicking on scripts in the menu bar of Poser, there should be an item "DSON support" (I seem to recall that the importer comes in 32 and 64 bit versions, I might be wrong here, but if it is the case make sure you have used the 32 bit version, Poser 10 is only 32 bits even if you have a 64 bit system.) Now I install all DAZ content that needs DSON importer (I've only ever used free stuff from DAZ) in the default My DAZ 3d library using the DAZ install manager. I have added this library to my Poser libraries by using the add library button in the library folder. Make sure you install not only the main product file but also any file labelled .... Poser CF,,. As I said I've only ever used it as an experiment, there's more than enough native poser content out there for my pockets.
Ok, I've just gone back and looked at the DSON installers and realised they are applications. I've just installed into my old poser pro 2014 and the installation went fine. You should just be able to double click on the DSON installer without it being installed in poser and it will run and ask where you want to install it. Have you got this far? (Sorry for the confusion it's been some time since I installed this.) You can use the browse function to select the correct folder if it's different from that suggested. (For example when I ran it it suggested poser 2012, so your version might suggest poser 9.)
In the runtime folder in program files (x86)there is a folder called python. In this there is a folder called addons and you should find a folder called dson in this. The installer should have installed the files into this. The file "dson _importer_for_poser....win32.exe isn't the program that runs, it just installs the proper files. I don't have a 32 bit version of poser on my computer any longer to try this out so I'm not sure what's going wrong. Wheher it's a matter of permissions when you running the installer or something like that would only be a guess on my part. I haven't tried this myself but perhaps you could get the installer to install the files in a bogus location and then manually copy them to the right place.
Thanks for all the suggestions. I just can't get it done! UGH! I realize it should be few simple clicks. I've had to use mostly daz products ( was able to install their stuff) as I was unable to install Miki4 from CP with the help from smith/micro people. I tried everything but just couldn't figure it out! I'm leery of trying Rendo. I just wanted some decent content stuff to work on a few projects to begin with.
Sorry I couldn't help. All I can now suggest is you start over again, download the 32 bit installer from DAZ, not sure if this comes as a zip file or not (by the way, do you have windows set up to show the 3 letter file extensions, I find this helps to understand what sort of file you are dealing with). If it comes as a zip file, unzip it. Double click on the exe file and it should all work. It will ask if you want to remove old versions of the installer if you have any installed. Miki 4 also comes as an exe file if I recall, so when I installed her it was just a matter of double clicking on the file and following instructions. (But again the exe file may be zipped, in which case you unzip itfirst.) Content from rendo that is meant for poser is very easy to install. You just download the zip files, then in poser 10 go to the content room and click on the install from zip archive. It will open an explorer window, navigate to the zip file, select it and click on open. Poser then lets you choose which of your runtimes you want to install it in.

I posted a valid way to get Genesis 1 and 2 up and running in Poser. Just look in the main Poser thread. I never bothered with Genesis 3. There is a stickied section for that.
Have seen and tried. Like many other folk I can't get any permanent joy from it. Have other users had any luck using parkdalegardner's efforts to get this actually to work? My strong belief..probably incorrect...is that only people directly or indirectly involved with this so called "import" app appear to have no trouble. I still believe it's a futile and annoying time waster but oh lordy I will try anything to get it to work as it should. Please, please all of you guys that have it up and running give us frustrated users some valid hints. :)
Your actual script should be located under Scripts from the pull down menu in Poser's upper taskbar. The actual folder is entitled DSON Support and within there are 2 commands and a sub-folder. The sub-folder is called Subdivision, and the 2 commands are called Importer Preferences... and Transfer Active Morphs. If you see all of these, then your installation is correct. If you don't, something has definitely gone wrong. The proper hierarchy is Runtime>Python>poserScripts>ScriptsMenu and the folder name should be DSON Support.
And yes, it is a very convoluted procedure, but this is the compromise DAZ has provided for Poser users to import Genesis and Genesis 2. It's either this or the old way of generating the cr2 in DAZStudio and loading that into Poser.

Actually; I have no vested interest what so ever in getting any DAZ product working in Poser. I stopped purchases there years ago. I provided that info only to help out. Use it as you will. It is valid and works as many other posters to the various threads regarding Genesis in Poser will attest. My personal feeling is that if you want to use DAZ products, use DAZ Studio. It is free. I am done here and will not respond to this thread.
Make sure you have the correct version (64 bit if you have 64 bit Poser installed) When you run installer just change ...../poser2012 to .... /Poser11. If you have done this then make sure you have added libraries with DAZ content in them to Poser 11. This could be problem if you have content in "downloads" library as downloads library in poser 11 will be different folder to downloads library in poser 2012

I am using Poser 10 on a windows 7 system. I am having trouble (that's putting it lightly) installing the DSON importer. Does anybody have any suggestions on simple, easy to understand steps to get this installed? I am not using the DAZ install manger but instead using the stand alone way. I'm a newbie so the more simple you can make it , the better. Thanks for your help!
Also, is there a renderosity install manager that's needed when ordering from their site?
