Subject: About Warez, Copywrites, and Hippocrates

CrazyBill ( ) posted Sat, 13 October 2001 at 9:12 PM · edited Fri, 08 November 2024 at 4:57 PM

Well I just got done reading Blackhearted's post entitled 'What the bloody hell is this?'. There were some serious issues to be found in Blackhearted's statement and in the replies he recieved. I saw words like warez, copywrites, sellers rights, and buyers rights, and limitations. I looked carefully over who had said what, and found that there are hippocrates in the crowd. This rant is directed to those 'certain' individuals who replied to Blackhearted's posting. Some of you know me, though not as CrazyBill. This is just one of several alias' I go by, and for good reason. I am a collector of warez. I have over 800 titles, and use these for trade so as to aquire even more. Believe me when I say that I have dang near everything from MetaCreations,Curious Labs, DAZ, Zygote, DSI, etc. , even the stuff you private individuals sell in the stores at the various Poser sites. I even have Steffies Asia Texture. I understand everybodies concerns, and angst. I realy truely do. However the fact remains that piracy is alive and kicking, stronger now then ever. It will always be here. The point that I am not doing a good job at making here is this. I have traded MANY Poser related items with at least 6 of the people, that I know of, that responded to Blackhearted's posting. These 6 folks sat there and cried this or that about 'rights', of the seller and consumer. People, give me a freaking break. I may be a thief, more or less, but at least I'm not a hippocrate. Hippocrates have another name, that name is LIAR. If I was to be asked if I had possesion, and or use illegal copies of Poser or Poser related items, I would either say yes or say nothing. I would not lie. So to you 6, that I know of, I say this to you. Never again will I trade with you. There will be nothing I will ever be looking for that will make me even consider dealing with a liar. I would guess that my CrazyBill account here will be terminated after this posting. So be it, I have three others. And I am guessing that I will be getting all kinds of legal e-mailings from various places after this also. So be it, I used a junk e-mail account, I have many others. My IP address is routed anonymously, and changes everytime I go online, so no worries there. Should this posting have a life-span that goes beyond 24 hours, I will be oh, so surprised. But what has been said here should not be taken lightly. The percentage of Renderosity members that dabble in the warez market is much more then I think any of you would like to believe.

fauve ( ) posted Sat, 13 October 2001 at 9:30 PM

Uh huh.... And we should believe CrazyBill, an admitted thief who posts anonymously...

Jack D. Kammerer ( ) posted Sat, 13 October 2001 at 9:31 PM

My only comments would be this, aren't you, yourself, one of those hipocrites that you are blasting? I mean, posting under an alias... if you really aren't ashamed at what you do, then why the alias? Another way is that this is a Community of artists that are supposed to support each other, how is your stealling considered as support? Perhaps a better term for you would be PARASITE... sure, your kind will always be around, pissing and moaning that the world isn't fair and everything should be free. No matter what kind of pesticide is created your kind will always spring up out of the cracks... but some people get enjoyment out of squishing bugs or pulling the wings off of flies... ...oh as for your IP router, it isn't impossible to track you down... parasites like you rely on the real "Hackers" to provide you protection from getting caught, the same individuals who sell cracks for their own "hack" programs. Tim, if you would like to send me this individuals IP Address, I would be very happy to track him down. chuckles it's one of my talents.. :o) Be talking to you soon CrazyBill :o) Jack

Jack D. Kammerer ( ) posted Sat, 13 October 2001 at 9:34 PM

PS: Russell, can you secure this message as well as the person's IP ADDRESS for this alias, it can be used as evidence and admission of guilt :o) Thanks!! Jack

veamon ( ) posted Sat, 13 October 2001 at 9:46 PM

i believe that even if your ip changes, the first 3 sets stay the same and can be used to track an ISP, who i would bet money would give you up in a heartbeat to avoid a lawsuit...

rcook ( ) posted Sat, 13 October 2001 at 10:34 PM

Well, I don't know about routing his IP anonymously, but I do have multiple IP addresses from a dial-up ISP in Florida, which I have already contacted about this post, along with forwarding copies of our weblogs from the IP addresses. Take care, Russell

Tymbo ( ) posted Sat, 13 October 2001 at 10:39 PM

not to cause a rant.. or to say anything that some people would assume as a "confession" but isn't getting information from someone's IP (if your not authorized to do so) a crime?

fauve ( ) posted Sat, 13 October 2001 at 10:42 PM

No.

hauksdottir ( ) posted Sat, 13 October 2001 at 10:54 PM

I was wondering what a Greek physician had to do with piracy. Maybe if CrazyBill could spell, or read a dictionary, he'd be able to get a real job and afford to buy the software he uses. Carolly

veamon ( ) posted Sat, 13 October 2001 at 11:42 PM

hehe..btw, not to sound stupid, but whats a weblog?

willf ( ) posted Sat, 13 October 2001 at 11:51 PM

Hide under such anonymity and you say you'r not a liar or hypocrite? You may be correct, schizophrenic may be more appropriate. Your own words & actions condemn you.

Wizzard ( ) posted Sun, 14 October 2001 at 1:18 AM

a weblog is a log of all the transactions to a site... who logged on, from where, how long, what they did there etc... simular to a phone log in a medium to large business.

I hate to play the devils advocate here, no, no ,no I don'5t mind actually! I don't see these graphic design companys ever post that there supporting the industries future talent who if not for warez would never have an oppurtunity nurture either talent or just the determined commitment it takes to master there program. How about giving software to schools that are academically challenged? It's like your local 7-11 owned by some camel fuckin terrorist selling a bag of sunflower seeds for 89 cents when safeway has it for 49 cents.I don't buy from him and I don't feel bad when I see the diaper on his head was'nt enough to stop the bullet from the armed robbery on the news If you paid 700.00 for the new rhino, life is treating you well.I work hard and don't over indulge but I could never afford it. Why not redduce by 90% photo shop 5 when 6 arrives? Just a thought.

Dude's right, people. I know for a fact that several members posting replies on this very thread have allowed themselves to be used as containers for the shipping of hippos. You disgust me. Leave the damn hippos ALONE, you bastards! No more crating hippos! And don't be boxing kangaroos either. They're very claustrophobic. As far as warez users, those you can freely package and ship to Afghanistan. I'll even chip in on those postage:)

So true Jack. I have had numerous ocassion to track down so-called "anonymous" Ip's and have never failed. running more than a few popular forums along with some for two different well known (though one is not very well liked but the money is good) web space providers I get more than my share of ones who think they are safe using "anonymiser" services. It is too easy and always gives the one responsible a good jolt of reality when they are traced. And every one of them claim to be innocent and a victim of foul play. Yup, they feel safe for a while until they get caught. Go get the one called CrazyBill. Let me know if you wish a hand as I have one forum with an incredible amount of talented web development people and they love to do such things. They make it a contest and the winner gets points which accumulate until the end of the year and the one with the most points gets a LEGAL copy of a software for their acumen.

x2000 ( ) posted Sun, 14 October 2001 at 2:42 PM

Nail the bastard. Methinks yon hippo crater had best have kept his mouth shut, but if it gets him busted, I'm glad he didn't;)

CharlieBrown ( ) posted Sun, 14 October 2001 at 4:56 PM

{Hippocrates have another name, that name is LIAR.} Uh, isn't Hippocrates the philosopher who was the father of modern medicine? I think the word you wanted is "hypocrites"... {or to say anything that some people would assume as a "confession" but isn't getting information from someone's IP (if your not authorized to do so) a crime? } No, but if it is done without their permission AND without a warrant, I believe it is inadmissable as evidence in a criminal trial. {Leave the damn hippos ALONE, you bastards! } Do I have to stop shipping pandas and sperm whales too?

Schlabber ( ) posted Mon, 15 October 2001 at 11:08 AM

hmmm, I read not everything carefully in this threat - due to my short time everytime ... So what to say to you Crazy Bill ... that's not easy - I once collected many warez. But it was only for the reason I simply couldn't afford them (yes, I know - you should then not use them etc - but every company expected you to know about this and that product :-| ). So I absolutely understand why people are using warez - and this is not such a bad thing (in my eyes) if you buy the products later one - once you can afford them. I - for example - did the same. But using them and selling them are two things: Crazy Bill, did you ever think about your job - or your fathers/mothers job ?? - Did they ever came home (or yourself) telling you they lost your job because someone stole their companies ideas and sold the idea just for the fun for a cheaper price ?? Do you ever think about that people have to pay their food from what they doing with their ideas ?? - Making a 3D-Model or even more - a total programm - isn't a 5-minute-job. You can copy it in 5 minutes store it on a webserver and destroy a half year of their work :o(. Funny, you think - I can destroy someones life. May god have mercy for you if you're thinking about this like that. But I think you're not that ignorant. So far to you Crazy Bill - now to the ones who "buy" such things ... or download it: I absolutely understand (I don't mean this is right) if you're using a warez-version of 3D-Studio-Max etc. to convert this and that object or just want to try it out - but everyone of you should end this behaviour somewhen - if you're going to make money with it or use it more and more often you should re-think your position and maybe buy such a product and if you still can't effort to buy it so use another less-priced product (to keep in our example: maybe Truespace or Raydream). And for yourself counts the same then for Crazy Bill - think about what you're doing - you won't get any new models if the artist who originally made the object is now living on the street - because he lost his income - you think that's overacting ... read about Bushi who lost his job - it wasn't because of warez (afaik) - but if you (the one who uses warez without any doubts) and everyone go on like this it ends up in this. I don't mind if you send a file (for example a pose of me) to a friend ... this won't kill me. But there are limits - and you should know when you cross them.

bonestructure ( ) posted Mon, 15 October 2001 at 5:19 PM

He's right, somewhat. A lot of people do use warez. But a lot of people also don't, and they work hard for what little they have and do the best they can with it. I've used warez, all of us have, let's be honest. But you move away from it. Cracked programs work about as good as my body these days. That ain't good. And, download warez and you got a 50/50 chance of gettin a virus from some smart ass that thinks it's funny. On the other hand, do you have any idea how many legitimate businesses are using pirated and illegally installed software to do business with? Microsoft started their whole piracy detection jihad last year. But that program wasn't to catch individuals using warez. It was to bust offices and networks using unlicensed software and pirated software. Do you REALLY think every game development business in the world uses legitimate copies of MAX and Maya and Softimage? Cause if you do, I have some rare collectible shit I'd like to sell you. Now, don't get me wrong, I agree with rosity's policy of deleting people that ask about or offer warez. And I do think there's a big difference between pirating a big rich company and pirating some poor slob here at rosity or commune that's worked their butt off trying to make something nice to sell and earn a few dollars. Sure, I'd love the latest version of MAX or Photoshop or PSP. But I'll struggle along using my now, I suppose, outdated versions. And I'll do far superior work to some goof that collects warez and doesn't know what it's like to bust your ass trying to learn a single program. Do I care if bill collects or trades warez? Hell no. I could care less. It's his life. I refuse to overreat to what, in the end, is essentially non-important bullshit.

{So I absolutely understand why people are using warez - and this is not such a bad thing (in my eyes) if you buy the products later one - once you can afford them. I - for example - did the same.} There are two (semi-)legitimate uses for Warez. 1) You intend to buy the program soon (and actually DO...) but need it NOW. 2) You have a legal copy, and are so frustrated with the copy protection that you download a cracked copy as well. Both ways the company gets their money, and you get to use the software, so everyone should be happy. In all other cases, IMO, Warez are BAD...

bonestructure ( ) posted Mon, 15 October 2001 at 10:24 PM

"You have a legal copy, and are so frustrated with the copy protection that you download a cracked copy as well." Actually, most of the people I know that have MAX use the crack to avoid having that stupid ass hardware dongle take up a port

CrazyBill: I am more than passingly familiar with the specific individual socio-economic status of a rather goodly sized number of the Marketplace and Daz3d vendors, mostly I will grant you, the females. An interesting fact that many may not be aware of, is that over 75 percent of the people that I personally know well enough to know their "story", and that is a good sized handful, have serious disabling physical problems, and some are terminally ill. All of these cases are also mothers, and in most cases, the sole support of their children. When you aid and abet those who steal from them, you are stealing from a woman who is very sick, perhaps dying, needing medicine, unable to work, and whose income generated from her sales is used to feed her children, clothe them, keep a roof over their heads, and purchase her own medication with. Just something you need to think about.

cenor ( ) posted Thu, 18 October 2001 at 4:48 AM

There's on eother reason, why I can excuse people using warez. You have to test the software, and in the spezific ways you want to use it, the demo-version is restricted. So what...I spend about 20.000 Bugs a year to buy softwaretools, and my wishlist is even longer. So I'm not able to buy something else if I spend much money for a product I don't need. So have I to upgrade PS 5.5 to 6? Shurely not! Last thing that happened to me was vue3.1, crashes everytime is shure the worst thing but there are many bugs too, baught it after I've run the demo-version, not much troble it was not expensive, but next time I'll test the warez-version first!!! After testing I allways delete it. This way I've sorted many bad things out, and gave my money to the producers of good stuff. Steelin things, that are not expensive, like props from DAZ or Renderosity is something completely different, everthough I've bought som textures or charakters that where not as beauty as on their renders, anyway. The price was ok. What I want here or at DAZ I buy. And most, nearly all of the stuff I bought was worth any penny.

wiz ( ) posted Thu, 18 October 2001 at 6:31 AM

Cenor, I agree, better previews of many programs are needed. But I've seen so many warez versions that were "crippled" in their own way, by the horrible jobs people did hacking out the copy protection, or removing "minor" features (like online documentation or object libraries) to make a faster download. Not to mention the occasional trojan thrown in for fun... You just can't get a good "feel" for large programs from the warez versions.

cenor ( ) posted Thu, 18 October 2001 at 7:50 AM

If you're not familar with the Prog, this might be, but if you have to look if import-export filters run, or to look what the upgrade realy brings, that helps. Progs that cost less than 1000.- I allways trust the seller on my own risk.

bonestructure ( ) posted Thu, 18 October 2001 at 1:50 PM

most warez programs lack the help files, tutorial files, support files on a second CD. It just ain't really worth it. You need those files. I'd be lost without the MAX online documentation and help files and everything else. When I don't know how to do something that's the first place I look.

Talent is God's gift to you. Using it is your gift to God.
