Subject: Glowing eyes

Brand new Poser user here, trying to my first renders. I'm using Jessi and Poser 11, and I can't seem to get rid of the glowing orange eyes. The only way I can see the irises in any human way is by reducing the light to almost nothing.
I've tried playing around with different light sources. I honestly don't know what the light in her eyes is reflecting off; I have one point light overhead, and I think there's one spotlight behind her, behind the wall, actually pointed away from her (weirdly, odd things happen when I get rid of it, so I left it).
The glasses don't seem to make a difference. There's nothing in front of her, so I haven't figured out what the reflection is on her glasses.
Advice online suggested playing with features of Cornea; but as near as I can see, there is no Cornea. I can find right eye, left eye, EyeTrans (whatever that is), Eyeball, Pupil. I've tried playing around with Diffuse Color, Highlight, Ambient, on most of these. There doesn't seem to be much going on with Reflection.
I found a page online that suggested "checking the Transmission texture for the material" (EyeTrans, I'm guessing? I cannot find her Cornea) but I literally do not know how to bring up the menu to which they proceed, where they're setting colors on Reflection and Transmission.
Literally all I want to do is having decent lighting in the scene and not have her eyes glow like a vampire. Can I get human-looking irises with decent light?

think eye trans is "cornea" I had a long few years off poser so maybe wrong showing your settings will help with answers by the way but try turning up the transparency and reducing reflection on eye trans do you have a sky dome ?? that could cause the colour my first thought was the glasses frame but u say you removed them

hope that helps

I'm guessing you are using superfly renderer. The problem is that materials for the older figures, and Jessi was a poser 6 figure, were not designed for this, but instead were designed for firefly render engine. They have reflections built into the materials as poser at the time could not produce genuine reflections and highlights.

Have you tried going to render settings and selecting firefly, and one of the pre-set options under automatic?

If this gives yu a render you are happy with, then you look at a later date about using older characters with Superfly

is a useful start. There is also a free product called EZskin3, available at cgbytes that can be used to help.

Thanks for the advice. I did the auto firefly render and it improved the eyes, but the quality is drastically inferior.
So what I'm taking away from this (as a total newbie) is that I probably shouldn't be using Jessi? What's a good character to start with in Poser 11 for someone like me who's still learning the ropes?
Or I suppose I could do every render both ways and just photoshop in the eyes. FireflyRenderAuto.jpg

Solved it! I changed EyeTrans' Specular_Color and Alternate_Specular from white to black. Have no idea what these are, but it seems to work (at least for this particular render and lighting). I think you need a PhD in engineering to use Poser! BetterEyes.jpg

It's not that you shouldn't use Jessi. It's some (most) of the shaders that were made for firefly don't turn out well in superfly. One issue is over shininess. Superfly handles shine differently. If the shader had both the specular color and the alternate specular used, it's too much for superfly. The eyes weren't glowing so much as reflecting the light. Specular is what is used to control the shine or glossiness of an object. The darker the color of the color chip for those will tell how strong the effect is. The specular color also has a value under it you can set. Lower numbers meaning less.

And just an FYI for future posts, include screenshots of shaders and which render engine you're using to give us more information to help you with.

Unfortunately, there are other things wrong with her texture, in general, that also need correcting. There is a lack of nostril shadow, for example, which implies that there is an active light emission in her material nodes. That will definitely cause issues with scene lighting and rendering. There is quite a bit to learn, but be patient, ask questions and keep in touch with the forum for valuable information.
