Subject: Daz export to cr2, load poser need help

grichter ( ) posted Tue, 06 November 2018 at 9:29 AM · edited Sun, 22 December 2024 at 8:20 PM

I can load a hair for G8 in Daz and export as a object and load that into poser 11 just fine. When I export as a cr2 and try to load that cr2, the scene is blank. I can see the materials of hair in the poser material room and save that as an mc6 and apply that to the object imported into poser and parent the hair to V4's head to get what I am trying to do done. There has to be some magical step I am missing somewhere in the exporting of a Cr2 from Daz to import into poser. Anybody got any ideas why the scene loads blank or can point me at a decent tut that doesn't have a lot of fluff connected to the tut that explains what I am obviously doing wrong TIA Gary

Possibly the grouping - DS does not require that the groups match the bone names, Poser doesn't like unmatched groups. You can see the groups in the OBJ, or using the Geometry Editor in DS (the list is in the Tool Settings pane). Do bear in mind that Genesis 3 and 8 are not supported in Poser.

It's been a few years since I looked into it, but I think because the Genesis items are not required to be grouped like poser content, the export doesn't know what to do with the object once it's loaded in Poser, thus you can't see it. It may be possible to use Dimension3D's dsf (not sure of the name) utility to load the hair into Poser with DSON installed then parent the hair to V4, but I never tested it. Otherwise, you can see if the Genesis 3 to poser utility has instructions for converting content and use that.

It’s the new rigging that started with G3. Exporting cr2’s works fine for G2 hair. If you have the pro version, you can import the obj you exported from DS and use a similar V4 hair as the doner in the setup room. Transfer the rigging and the morphs. This almost always works pretty well for hair that drapes down the back or over the shoulders in front. Bangs generally transfer well. It’s a crap shoot with other movement morphs.

It's not the rigging, it's the grouping. Genesis 2 hair (and some genesis 1 items that have Poser companion files) would work because a lot of the products were set up to work with the DSON importer for Poser and companion files. Because poser doesn't support Dual Quaternion weightmapping of Genesis 3 and 8, the requirements for content to work in poser (which most PAs including myself were encouraged to do, especially when selling content to DAZ) was dropped.

Yep no groups show up, and a lot of body parts in the hierarchy editor. Weird part is product has a Dson core installer, and I have used that several times in the past and it doesn't seem to work with this product either. Hair has no morphs other then fit morphs. Product is Curler Hair for Genesis 8 Female(s) . Yes I have Poser 11 Pro. I think I will just use the object, save as a prop and use magnets as needed to fit better the around the back of the neck

Having a "DSON core installer" doesn't mean it works in poser. DSON is the native format format for DAZ content; you're thinking of things compatible with the "DSON Importer for Poser". No genesis 3 or 8 products are compatible in poser using that method of export. You would have better luck with Genesis 2 content as that was the period that PAs made content compatible with the DSON importer for Poser. For Genesis 3 and 8 items, you could try Wilddial's instructions for genesis 3 to see if that can import content; though it would need the installation of the DSON importer.

Online Now!

Try exporting as an FBX and importing that into Poser.
