Subject: Poser animated textures?

PhotinoBird ( ) posted Sun, 24 March 2019 at 1:21 PM · edited Tue, 19 November 2024 at 2:19 PM

Is there a way to make animated 2D textures in Poser Pro 11? Think Wind Waker's face animation.

ironsoul ( ) posted Sun, 24 March 2019 at 4:36 PM

If its a just a couple of 2D textures then a Blender node might be an answer. Attached the two images to the blender node and then animate the "Blending" parameter. Blender nodes could be cascaded to support more than two but it starts to get complicated.

There is also a movie node that allows AVI to be imported with a frame_number input which possibly could be driven by an animated math node but never tried it.

Example of math node selecting a frame from an AVI - the idea is the different textures are stored in the AVI one per frame and the animated math function selects the frame. As mentioned, never tried it so may have its own problems

Maybe I've misunderstood you're question, my response is to do with projecting a 2D animation onto a 3D model, if you're question was about creating a 2D like animation using Poser that would be require another answer.

Thank you for the help.

I'm not sure what OP wants either; here is another idea: Use a series of sequentially numbered JPEGs in the movie node to control color and displacement as the animation progresses.

I don't know if the OP is getting what's needed, but I sure am. I've wanted to learn how to do this for a long time.

Can you animate transparency? Just have a character walking along and fading to nothing?

Yes, simply use the animated texture to control transparency. :D I'll make a demo.

In the runtime\textures folder, create a folder just for the sequentially numbered JPEGs...

sequentially numbered JPEGs.PNG

Here is the material setup I used; the nodes along the bottom were just adjusting the greyscale level to serve as a transparency map, because I was too lazy to make a corresponding set of transmap JPEGs. 😄 You'd not need that, or the sine wave node group, nor the lightcasting boost node group.

Still frame render:

The material can be applied to a doll...

seachnasaigh, that is amazing tech. I have to study it to grasp it.

Can you or anyone add one thing:

Without an image sequence folder, is it possible to simply have Poser walk through a 100-frame animation of a ball and the transparency node increments automatically from 0.00 to 1.00?

Yes. Look for the "key" icon next to the transparency value; set it at 0 in frame 001, then go to frame 30 and set transparency value to 1. That will keyframe the transparency in your timeline.

OMG! Thank you. [please don't tell me that is in the Poser manual, but I bet it is.]
