Subject: Help With Installing 3rd Party Content To 3d DAZ

theunknownartist2020 ( ) posted Thu, 04 July 2019 at 12:16 PM ยท edited Sat, 15 February 2025 at 3:48 PM

I bought two products yesterday from here yesterday.I also have the latest version of DAZ as well.I tried installing the content and it does show up in the content library part of My Library but when i try to drag, parent,or fit content to the genesis 3 female character. An error message pops up saying the content could not be loaded check the log file.I should probably add that both products did not have a texture or runtime folder as well.I don't know if it has to do with the created content being fully customized using the genesis 3 female character or what making it to where it doesn't need the texture or runtime folder, but the creator did say it is compatible with the genesis 3 female character.Could someone please help me out here because i don't know what the problem is?

Many products are broken into multiple zip files. A good first step when problems appear is to verify you downloaded and installed all the zip files.

I tried.I put the data folder in the data folder of my 3d daz library folder and did that with the people folder as well since those are the only folders that are relevant since the document folder has no relevant files pertaining to the product itself.

The 'data' and 'people' folders both go in 'My Library', not the existing data folder.

Ok maybe i'm not explaining myself well enough.I followed the hierarchy folder structure of the My DAZ 3D Library and put the data folder into the data folder section of the My DAZ 3D Library and put the people folder into the people folder section of said folder hierarchy structure of the My DAZ 3D Library.Am i not supposed to do it that way because i watched youtube videos saying that's how you're supposed to do it?

The 'My Daz 3d Library' folder is where the Daz Install Manager puts content, and typically you need metadata included for it to work there. Most 3rd party content has to be installed manually, and the target folder there is My Library.

After you unzip into this folder, you should be able to navigate down to the People folder and its subfolders to find your content.

Getting the content to show up in my library isn't the problem.Getting the content to work is,but you mentioning meta data may be the problem as to why it won't work. The problem is the zip file doesn't have a meta data file

You've installed the folders one step too far down in the directory tree. The way you did it installed 'data' and 'people' subdirectories inside the existing 'data' and 'people' directories. When this happens, Daz will display the menu items in the content window, but the underlying data links are broken.

If you want to use the 'My DAZ 3D Library' folder, then copy your data and people folders into that.

You don't need meta data unless you want the content to show up in the Smart Content. Personally, I prefer to put third party content in 'My Library.' Keeps Daz purchased content and third party content safely separated.

Thank you to both of you.The problem has now been fixed.I can now apply the content to my default character.

Thank you. I've had similar issues while trying to convert props from DUF/DSF format to Poser that are too complex to figure via dsf Tools.

Poser, you can usually drag/drop PP2, CR2 etc directly into scene from an external folder, and the program cheerfully prompts to browse for textures etc. Try that with a DUF in DS, it just lists the missing files, offers no route to locate them. And such teeny, tiny print, too...

IMHO,Compared with the simplicity of Poser's 'External Directories', which can be anywhere in your PC or 'drive mapped' local network, DS Manual Install is so unfriendly, I must wonder if Daz is trying to hobble 3rd party products and move to an 'Apple' model...

You can put your libraries anywhere you want (except for OS protected folders) you just need to tell Studio where they are through its Content Directory Manager.

Thank you. I'll have another try...

Does this work the same way in Windows 11? NONE of my 3rd party assets are showing up when i use these methods on Daz Studio 4.21 Pro in Windows 11

Yes, Where are your files, where are your content directories, and where in DS are you looking?
