Subject: Poser Pro 11.2 new install crashes on start up.

drages ( ) posted Fri, 15 November 2019 at 5:09 AM · edited Sat, 30 November 2024 at 7:18 AM

Hey!

I just downloaded new installer from here and when i try to start it, it just closes after the poser 11 banner. The program starts but closes before you see anything at UI. There is no warning or anything, just closes and go to desktop.

I was using old poser pro. I uninstall it and deleted cache files from roaming folder. I reinstalled new one but nothing changed.

Can somebody help me?

I am using a laptop with 980m and i7-7800 with 32 gb ram. Thx!

I'm not a frequent Windows user at the moment, being mostly on macOS, but can you confirm exactly what version of Windows you have? Are you running many applications at the same time? Have you tried logging out of windows and in again, or rebooting? Have you installed any driver updates recently?

Of course. Its windows 10. I tried rebooting my times. I did not make any driver upgrade for a while. I did not try logging off windows but i got an offline login anyway. Nothing was running when i try to open poser. Reboot and tried to start poser but always failed same.

I'm sorry that I'm not going to be much help to you, I'm afraid, but I don't want you to feel ignored by not getting any quick answers. Just off the top of my head, did the installer perform a fresh install or an update?

Oh, I've just remembered that there was a better, more complete uninstaller tool that might help clear out any old bits that linger from the previous installation and might be causing your problem. I'll have a look and see if I can find the reference in the forum and post again shortly. Hold on... :-)

Right, the tool that Windows users were being advised to ensure a complete uninstall of any particular piece of software was geek uninstaller Of course, before you run that, make sure you have a backup of your preferences and content (you really shouldn't need to worry about uninstalling or overwriting content, but it never hurts to have a backup), then try a complete uninstall of all the Poser components, before you attempt a fresh install.

I hope that anyone who notices something I've quoted or suggested in error will jump in and correct me, but If you're not able to run Poser at all without it crashing, then it's hardly a backward step to uninstall and reinstall.

Hi drages,

Let's start at the beginning, please.

What version of Poser 11 are you installing and where did you get the copy you are trying to install?

If you are not using the Bondware/Renderosity version of Poser, it will behave exactly as you are seeing. All Smith Micro versions of Poser have been "turned off" at the SM servers because Bondware purchased Poser.

So, if we can, let's make sure you have a valid, working copy of Poser that you are trying to install.

Please try uninstalling poser, using geek uninstaller ( or the mac equivalent ) - then reinstall

Hey! I downloaded the final version from here as 11.2. I start poser, after the loading banner, the programs opens but only the background UI and after some seconds it crashes to desktop. I will try to use uninstaller program to clean old smith micro version. Thx!

Don't want to derail this thread, but I'm a Mac user, and still using the original Bondware Poser v. 11.2.276. (I also owned the SmithMicro version 11 Pro.) There's a new dated download for November 13. This is either the 2nd or 3rd update. How does this version work? I'm using Mac OS 10.12.6, Sierra, btw.

It sounds like you are still crashing. 11.2 as version number is incomplete information. If you can't give us the version number, then what is the date of the version you're trying to install. Also you didn't download it from here. The download is from another site. I know it sounds nitpicky but things like that can make all the difference.

I think it would be desirable, instead of just giving a date for the new Poser update, if there was information about how this update was improved. Perhaps a note such as **Removes the bug that . . .** and **Improves Superfly shader in that . . .**

Also, what versions of the OS has this been tested on? For example, I'm a Mac user, so for the new Mac version, it might say _Tested on Catalina. Well, I'm using Sierra, so maybe I'd want to stay away from that version. Or, it might say _Tested on High Sierra and Mojave. Well, High Sierra is right next to Sierra -- came right after it. So, I might want to try that version, thinking that if it works on High Sierra, it'll probably be all right on Sierra.

I have downloaded the October Macintosh update, and could not get it to work on my computer. So, I reinstalled the original Macintosh 11.2.276 version, which does work pretty well.

Again, another thing I've noticed is that when the new update was installed, all of the Runtime folders I had added to the Library were not there. Any settings I had changed because I preferred to do so, were lost. Is it possible to keep the settings users change and the Runtime folders they add? Other applications do keep preferences. On the Macintosh, newer versions of applications often read the Preferences files even if they add new Preferences files themselves.

When installing (at least on windows, but I assume same on mac) one of the screens gives you the option of backing up your preferences or using existing preferences, I think there is a third option but can't rember what it is. Unfortunately the first option is the default, but if you choose the second your pref should be intact.

I have Poser 11.2 Pro. I installed the update. It is now virtually impossible for me to use the animation palette. Whenever I make a change, it refreshes numerical data for each item which takes forever and will eventually freeze up my computer. I was using it to edit a movie with about 4500 frames. I finally gave up and used a Poser 10 version which I still had. Is it possible to disable any of these new features on Poser 11.2 Pro so that they don't slow down my computer so much? I was satisfied with the older version of Poser 11.2 Pro and was beginning to use the Genesis figures, but that's not possible now.

Hi inquire. I updated my PP11.2.xxx (might have been 276) to 11.2.319 a couple of days ago on a Mac mini running 10.12.6 Sierra. This morning I updated a MacBook running 10.15.1 Catalina to Poser Pro 11.2.319. Both instances of Poser work normally. I did note that in Catalina on the MacBook while running an earlier version of Poser Pro 11.2 that there was a strange rendering phenomenon evident on completed renders. This appears to be fixed with 11.2.319.

OK, thanks for the info. I didn't get any notification this time of a post in this thread. Hmmmm. Don't know why. Thanks LeeMoon. I still think it's a good idea for information to be posted saying what has been fixed or what new features might be added. Again, I think it's a good idea for which versions of the OS this new Poser fix has been tested on; as, e.g., Sierra, High Sierra, Windows 10, Windows 2000. Is this possible?

I have the same issue on Windows 10 Home edition German (PC: i7-9700K, 32GB RAM, NVIDIA 1070Ti) with the version Poser Pro 11.2.319 as of 11-13-2019 12:11 pm downloaded from here (https://www.posersoftware.com/downloads). - It opens and displays the UI Background, then crashes.

Specialities of my installation:

  • I bought an upgrade of an existing licence, but when registering I can't enter the previous licence (the field is not editable and says: not required)
  • The applications folder path is not standard but C:ApplicationsPoser Software
  • Not using default library path but on a secondary drive E:3D_Library

I tried different approaches: installing as normal user or admin; I also did an clean uninstall using the suggested geek uninstaller and started all over again

Any further suggestions and ideas where the problem comes from and how to solve it? @drages did you finally manage to get it working?

Thanks in advance!

Perhaps it is something with the way your windows is set up, ( though it should not need it ) have you tried running in compatibility mode to see if it still crashes?

Just a quick note about rebooting. When you choose to reboot always choose ReSTART not TURN OFF. Turn off takes a snapshot of your system and returns it to that state if possible. Restart actually gives you a clean working field that has nothing to do with the previous state.

Before I start. I do a CCleaner wipe of my system. THEN I restart not turn off.

Another tip might be if you're not using the internet after installing. You might need to be connected for that first use after installation, perhaps even during installation. Poser needs to phone home from time to time. No flame wars, people. We're trying to get him/her up and running. The phone home feature is for another thread and another day. For now, just know that it exists and may be affecting his program. Also My installation path C:Program FilesSmith MicroPoser 11. The actual program is small enough to reside on my C: Drive while all of my runtimes exist quite nicely on external drives.
