Subject: Final Fantasy DVD---Textures and Morphs!!!

nightmyst ( ) posted Sun, 21 October 2001 at 2:25 AM · edited Fri, 14 February 2025 at 12:54 PM

I just bought the Final Fantasy DVD, and on the back of the case, it says that CD 2 of the set has face texture wraps for Dr. Sid and Aki, and also has morph targets, which it makes it seem like they can be used on your own computer upon putting them into your computer. My problem is that I don't know why to find them! Has anyone found them yet?? I'm not even sure the morphs will work in Poser, but I'd be happy morphing my own character when I have a hi-res texture map of the faces of these 2 characters! Could anyone help me? Thanks!!! :o) '~~Ri~~'

Isn't the release date 10/23? Where did you get it so soon? drool...:)

Yes, some stores have it out now!! :-) And to get access to the Stuff, you need to a DVD player on your Putter! Although, i haven't checked the CD #2 yet, i assume that it will be like most DVDs with PC features, meaning it will ask you to install files on your Putter... So, if that is the case, then say yes! I'll check this out myself later... Marco

I got my copy through a web site where I get most of my stuff. LOL I actually didn't even know that it wasn't due out until the 23rd! As for the second CD, I have a DVD-ROM on my computer and the only thing it seemed to check for when it came to installation, was QT 5! I searched everywhere I could think of in the PC extras as well as the DVD extras! In the DVD extras they show a quick shot of Dr. Sid's face texture, but you can't capture it or anything from the CD onto your computer, so that can't be it. And for some reason, the link to the "Web gallery" doesn't work, but I'm sure it's the same thing as their web site anyway. Growls If anyone figures it out, please do tell!!!! Thanks!!! '~~Ri~~'

I think they were talking about features that explain the creation of the texture maps and morph targets not the actual data. Similar to how other DVDs have features on effects. I'd be extremely surprised if Square gave away any texture maps or morph target. Aki alone took 30 artist 5 months to create. Also in order for them to be used You'ld nedd the actual Aki and Dr. Sid models. The head models also have large poly counts up to 100,000 polygons. But I'm still looking forward to the DVD to see how they created the character will be cool and I heard at one point the characters looked too real and freaked people out. Maybe we'll see some of that footage. I've been addicted to DVDs since they came out I can't seem to get enough behind the scenes info. I'm also learning how to deal with things at work when they get changed or cancalled. It doesn't seem that tragic when a project you've been working on for a few weeks gets cut when you hear about some of these effects guys who spend 5-6 months on a scene that never makes it into the film.

Hmm...perhaps you're right, and the information they give you is all they're talking about on the back of the DVD...sigh Now I'm disappointed!!! :o( I guess I had too high of hopes about it once I read the back. As for the extras, be sure to check out all of them, especially the Final Fantasy Thriller music video (yes, the Michael Jackson song---only the little dance sequence though, but it is hysterical!) and the outtakes!! the last one is so funny I almost fell out of my seat when I saw it! LOL :o) '~~Ri~~'

nightmyst - what's the website URL? I'd like to order it!!! Thanks for the heads up! I didn't even know it was coming out on DVD soon. Guess I need to come up for air once in a while... ;) Oh, on the "web gallery" link on the 2nd cd - did you have your internet connection open at the time? It might be a link to the actual web site, I've seen that on some discs... --silver

Also a cool Final fantasy item I picked up at a comic convention. Final Fantasy digital trading cards featuring film clips, photos, and character data all on baseball card sized cds. Available from serioususa.com.

I bought my copy of Final Fantasy from www.half.com. It's in association with e-bay, but not all items are from personal sellers, some are from companies. They'll always tell you if the product is factory sealed or used and such. I have never ever had a problem with them before and I have bought a lot of stuff from them! LOL So I vouch. :o) '~~Ri~~'

Since the Final Fantasy characters are built in Maya, and that program is not compatible with much of anything else, I seriously doubt if anything would be usable elsewhere, even if they gave it away... which I doubt. There were some nice models, but the animation was average, and the "acting" was abysmal. The storyline was worse than most video games. My take? A very long advertisement for a very expensive modeling program. QT5 is available from Apple.com and there are versions for PCs, too. The regular version (for just playing movies back) is free. LOL. Although the "acting" wasn't exactly as it would have been if it were real people, I have played all the Final Fantasy video games, and this movie was like the animation sequences in, say, FF7 and FF8. More 8 than 7, however, because 7 took the anime route where 8 tried to be more realistic in everything, including the characters you saw on the regular game-play screens. The movie made the movie sequences from the video game look a bit "dinky" because they made it better. I wasn't looking for anything more than the video game movies when I entered the movie theatre, so I suppose that's why I was so delighted when I saw the picture. But on a side note, I own Maya 2.0 and would have loved it if they passed along those things we spoke about earlier. LOL ;o) '~~Ri~~'
