Subject: Grass Through the Arm, How to Eliminate This?

Crispycraft ( ) posted Sat, 29 August 2020 at 7:55 AM · edited Thu, 28 November 2024 at 9:45 PM

A few days ago, I purchased Ultimate Grass & Meadows, but there is something that I've never understood, and that is, how do I prevent the blades of grass from poking through a figure, etc.? Ultimate Grass & Meadows; when in "Texture Shaded" mode, shows a small patch of "Cut Grass", Clovers", etc., but when switching to "INVIDIA Iray" mode, the entire field is full of blades of grass, etc., and I can't remove it from the figure with the Geometry Editing Tool as I can with other objects that show in both "Texture Shaded" & "INVIDIA Iray" mode. Is there a way to eliminate the grass from the figure, without the need for post production editing (Photoshop)? Capture01.JPG

Only thing I can think is to do 2 render passes one with and one without the grass and post work the grass out in your paint program of preference...

That's kind of what I was thinking, as well. It just seems like there is some way to edit the grass. If it shows in INVIDIA Iray, it seems like there would be a way to make it show in Texture Shaded mode.

Use "MeshGrabber" (at Daz) to push the grass down.

However one creates morphs in Blender do that for the grass (move smooth push or pull those blades down out the way and out of sight )

Use "MeshGrabber" (at Daz) to push the grass down.

The problem with this is that there is nothing to grab, because the grass blades only show when rendered, or I select "INVIDIA Iray" in the drop box. I've looked through the "Parameters" tab to make sure that all of the "Visibles" were on; like "Visible in preview", etc., but the grass, flowers, etc., are invisible until rendered or selecting "INVIDIA Iray" in the work room window.

Ultimate Grass & Meadows appears to use instancing, so chances are your are not seeing any preview as you are looking at are instances with their preview set to bounding box. There are numerous ways to overcome this with the easiest likely to be post. Simply render your seen with and without the grass and composite the two together using an image manipulation program. The next method relies on replacing the instances with actual geometry and using one of the above described methods such as Dformers or mesh grabbers to push and pull the actual geometry so collision with your figure is minimised. Hope this helps :)

I do use Mesh Grabber to move things around, and it's really nice to use, but to make the grass appear I have to select "INVIDIA Iray", and this slows DAZ to a crawl, making it somewhat impossible to use the mesh grabber to manipulate any geometry. With that being said, I agree that rendering twice, and using an editor to combine the two will be the easiest way to get rid of the grass.
