Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 20 6:12 am)
DAZ Install Manager works perfectly fine. You need to specify where the content is to be installed, but you also need to create the pathway to your content folder. To begin, what type of content did you purchase from DAZ? Does it include both Poser and DAZ installation zips? Provide as much information as you can.
I bought Victoria 4.2 from Daz. It does say it works in Poser. The Daz install manager will not work. It's won't open, however many times I install/uninstall it. Neither will Daz central.
I now have 3 zip files - one is called 'base figure' so I'm guessing that's the one I really need. I don't mind don't it manually, but I'm not sure how.
As I stated previously DIM does work, it's just being used incorrectly. The only zip file you require for Poser is the Poser Core Installer. If you open the file with Winzip, Winrar, etc. you will find a primary folder called content. When you enter this folder, the secondary folder should be Runtime. There might be other folders along with it but that's okay, they should be at the same level as Runtime. It is this folder and any other folders along with it that get unzipped into your content folder.
Now, how is Poser set up on your computer and where is your content being installed? We're talking about a rather old program here, so I hope we can get you going on the right track.
DIM may work fine for some. Not for me. It's not a case of being used incorrectly. The program will not open or run. I have the desktop icon but nothing I do opens the prog. Extremely frustrating. Yes, I have an old system and old Poser but for me, 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it'...
I just wish I could get V4 to install.
P5 is on my hard drive. I have unpacked the installer and lo and behold - it just worked for the first time. However, I used it it to install V5 but she still does not show. If I go in to my characters via file manager, there is a folder full of sub-folders within the Daz characters area. They do not do anything. I think I need to swallow a £23 purchase and just delete it.
Use the zip files. I find them a lot easier, and you can put the items where you want them. The one for the V4 base is called IM00004783-01_Victoria42Base.zip. (The other two files that come with it are for DAZ Studio. It might seem complicated, but you'll soon recognize which files are for Poser and which are for DS.)
If you're using Windows, you can click on the zip file. There will be a folder called Content. Click on that, and find the folder called Runtime. Copy that to your runtime.
If you have WinZip or a similar program, you can just extract the Runtime folder to the folder containing your runtime.
Randym77 - many thanks.
Idid as you suggested but there's no Runtime folder in there. The first inner folder is content, then people, then Victoria 4. When I go into Victoria 4, I get 2 more folders. Materials and Poses. Materials contains V4 samples. Poses contains a folder called general which has a whole load of DSB files.
There's nothing else...

That sounds like the DAZ Studio files. You don't need them for Poser. I think you unzipped the wrong file.
Thanks, that helps a lot. You have the files, but they're not in the right places.
What version of Windows are you using? It looks like the file structure of the zip file was not preserved when you extracted it. Newer versions of Windows will keep the directory structure when you extract a zipped file, but if you're using an old version, or are using unzipper without "preserve structure" checked, it won't.

Do not copy the V4 runtime into the Poser runtime, copy the V4 runtime into the Poser folder. The V4 runtime should merge with the Poser runtime. The way you are describing the install, you are nesting a runtime folder into a runtime folder. That will never work.
If that's what happened, it's an easy fix. Just copy the nested runtime into the main runtime. But that looks like the contents of the !DAZ folder in DAZ People.

I've tried install manager, Daz central - nothing works. The programs won't even open despite umpteen install-remove-install. I can't download the new content I've just bought!
Manual download gives me 3 zip files, but I have no idea what to do with them...
HELP!
