Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Dec 20 7:20 am)
Can't you just attach your Poser 9 runtime, and use that in Poser 11?
There are some differences in the way Firefly renders stuff in Poser 11. You might try installing Snarlygribbly's EZSkin, or SceneFixer. They will fix that gray color, which worked in older versions of Poser but tends not to look good in Poser 11.
Poser 11's default renderer is Superfly, however if you pick Firefly, your skins and all should look fine. To pick Firefly, go to the render settings and click the Firefly tab. Or click on the render tab next to the preview tab and click on the down arrow next to superfly at the top of the window and select firefly.
@romangirl You can add the P9 library to P11; in P11's library, click this icon which looks like a stack of books (library) with a + sign. P11 will open a Windows Explorer folder window. Find the P9 runtime folder, click on it to select that runtime folder, then click the blue "select folder" button in the lower right corner of the Explorer window.
Now the P9 runtime will be available in P11. I have several runtimes added to mine:
Poser 12, in feet.ย ย
OSes:ย Win7Prox64, Win7Ultx64
Silo Pro 2.5.6 64bit, Vue Infinite 2014.7, Genetica 4.0 Studio, UV Mapper Pro, UV Layout Pro, PhotoImpact X3, GIF Animator 5

IME, this is not true. Even in Firefly, Poser 11 handles some shaders differently, and some older products just don't look right in Poser 11, even when rendered in Firefly.
In particular, some products use a greenish or bluish tint as the diffuse color for skin. This was to fake SSS. And it looks fine in older versions of Firefly, but in Poser 11, it often results in the skin looking distinctly unhuman.
SceneFixer lets you change the diffuse color to white with a click, which will fix the problem.
Some older hair shaders also do not render as intended in Firefly.
Well I haven't had much problems yet, though I do mostly use Dawn and Dusk and not V4 or M4 these days.
Dawn and Dusk are probably new enough that they don't have this problem. Here's the default V4 shaders from DAZ. Standard Poser lighting, draft mode. (Final is even worse.)
Scenefixer, setting the diffuse color to white, instead of the weird greenish shade that's the default:
EZskin3:
All Poser 11 Firefly renders.
I have never liked the default V4 texture, but we're hijacking the thread which is really not good.
Eh, it's not like hijacking threads is unusual here. And I don't think it's really hijacking. I'm explaining what the OP is complaining about. Poser 11 does render things differently, even in Firefly. This is why her characters are rendering gray.
It's not just the standard DAZ textures. A lot of older texture packs have this problem. EZSkin is an easy fix, at least in Poser 11. (It doesn't run in Poser 12 yet. Another reason to keep Poser 11 around, even if you've upgraded.)
Although EZSkin overwhelmingly corrects most skin texture situations, there are still instances where a vendor or free content contributor will completely hack the Material Room to get the look they want not realizing that it's a poor excuse for not putting more effort into the product. Regardless, it is becoming more apparent that 3D artists will need to intensively learn the software better in order to produce desirable renders. With so many options available now, it would seem foolish not to learn everything there is about getting the most out of your hobby or business ventures.
I get that, but not everyone is able or willing to do that. The OP only upgraded from Poser 9 because she couldn't get the library to work when Flash hit its end of life.
Renderosity probably relies on those of us who don't want to do a deep dive into the nuts and bolts of the software to keep the lights on. We're the ones paying others to do it, by buying the products in the RMP.
FireFly in Poser 11 Added Gamma Correction (GC) for all people. It use to be Poser 10 and lower had Gamma Correction set at 1.0 and only those who had the Pro versions had Gamma Correction of 2.2. The easiest way to get all older scenes to work is to change the global setting to 1.0 instead of 2.2 in the Render Settings tab. Of course if you made changes to other parts you might run into issues with the wrong GC being applied.
Poser 5, 6, 7, 8, Poser Pro 9 (2012), 10 (2014), 11, 12, 13

Poser 11 does have the library I used in Poser 9. But it is difficult to find things in the (P11) library. So, I sometimes have to go back to P7 to find something. And that is slow.
Poser 11's search engine got borked with one of the upgrades. I don't know if it ever got fixed. There was a way to use an internet browser to open the library had have the search engine work better, but I don't remember where to find the file. Maybe someone else can post those instructions.
Available on Amazon for the Kindle E-Reader Monster of the North and The Shimmering Mage

Interesting. If you do that, V4's default textures no longer look green. But she does render a rather horrifying shade of orange. Hmm. This might be useful should I ever want to render a certain former President. ;-)

I confess, I have never used Poser's search engine. Just never found it very useful. But in the Poser 12 forum, someone posted this thread, which might be helpful:

I haven't tried it myself yet, but supposedly it allows you to search your runtimes "instantaneously."

I have to be very honest. For me, it is a struggle to use Poser11. I lost my P9 library, thanks to Adobe Flash's demise. I purchased XL Library, but am too Poser-illiterate to be able to install it. It is much more difficult for me to find things in the P11 library. So I'll have to use the P7 library. When I render a character, the skin color is often very grey, while in Poser 9, it comes out well. Now, when I try to create a character, I find myself bouncing back and forth between Poser 9, P7 and P11. Sorry, I guess I'm whining.
