Yeah, great fun, Helen, but also surprise. Im still sitting here asking myself: How can I look through black ? Why can I see Dina ? Stranges to know that it works, but not knowing why and how :-) Sky :-)

I start my day confused and it just gets worse LOL Transparency maps work on reflected light.. The more reflection the more you see. So if set to 100% for Transparency (black) there is no reflected light hence nothing there. As you take that 100% down in value you up the reflected light which is how you can set the degrees of transparency..

Does that mean that the same piece of clothes can have different degrees of transperency...I mean clothes sometime have different parts in the list in the material option...can I decide how transperent each part can be ? Make the settings different for each part if I want to ??? Oh and thanks for the explanation of the mystery of seeing through black :-)

Helen ( ) posted Wed, 24 October 2001 at 10:53 PM

Yes you can.. Just select the part you want to apply it to and set the Transparency Max to the degree you want.. This is a great way to make parts of clothing invisible. Sort of like turning parts on and off. For example the dress in the Victoria clothing pack has many parts.. The default is with the V-Neck invisible and long sleeves visible. If I set the sleeves to 100% and the V-Neck to 0% then The sleeves would become invisible and the neck visible. Very handy once you get used to it.

But thats amazing...thanks for telling me ! Opens up even more possibilities !

Its great for those slinky semi transparent looks.. Say for example you want a scene with the moonlight behind your character... By adjusting the transparency it gives that look of seeing the outline of the figure through material.. By no means perfect but heaps more realistic.
