Subject: Diffeomorphic Plugin - what is your Workflow?

bantha ( ) posted Tue, 22 June 2021 at 5:50 AM · edited Thu, 28 November 2024 at 11:10 AM

I started to use the Diffeomorphic Plugin a while ago and I get good results mainly.

My workflow is basically like this:

Create a character in DAZ Studio, fit multiple sets of Clothing to it. Make sure there are no standard names in it Save Scene, "Export to Blender"

In Blender, load default scene, get rid of the cube.

Import character

Select all, join Armatures.

Import favorite morphes (for me FACS, FACS Expressions, Visemes, JCMs, Flexions, some custom Morphs)

Save local textures

Make all bones posable

Add additional face bone layer

Create Visibility drivers, create masks on main mesh

manually define the created Vertex groups for masking.

Create MHX rig

Add mannequin for easier posing.

Also, I change things to the shaders most of the time..

Do you use the plugin as well? How does your workflow differ? Does anyone use HD meshes?

Hello bantha I have not tried Diffeomorphic Plugin but your workflow sounds and looks solid seems like a workflow I would myself follow hopefully some of our other members who might be using the Diffeomorphic Plugin will post their workflows so you can compare them

Fpr starters or if one would just import a simple DAZ figure with hair, geografts and morphs: Use Easy Import. A few clicks and you are good to go.

"Easy Import" is just a way to automate some of those things. There are checkboxes on the side, the default is "Merge Material" "Merge Rigs" and "Eliminate Empties", everything else is disabled by default. So, it's just an automated way to do some steps.

Also, with clothes I would like to have the visibility options and the according masks to prevent poke-through. More work, but it pays off IMHO when using the figure not just for one image.
