Subject: Can't get install manager to find the new products I purchased here

SEANX1234 ( ) posted Mon, 17 May 2021 at 2:30 PM · edited Tue, 12 November 2024 at 4:40 PM

I'm very new to Daz and I am probably having a rookie problem here. I downloaded products I purchased from here and then my install manager does not find the to install. they are all loaded in same folder as other assets I got at the Daz site , but for some reason they are not being recognized. any help is appreciated! thank you

Many products from here are not set up to use Install Manager - some, and some freebies even, are but it is the exception. If you are using Windows you just need to open the zip and drill down until you reach its Data and Runtime folders (assuming it has one or both of those) then drag them, and any other folders at the same level, into your chosen content directory (e.g. the My Daz 3D Library folder in Public documents if you are using the default settings) - you should be asked if you wish to merge the folders, say yes.

For Mac users it gets more complicated as, by default, drag-and-drop replaces the previous folders rather than merging them.

RHadeltine. thank you for the response. I did do like you said and pasted the folders into the main directory and they automatically merged with the folders inside of the same name (data = data, people = people, etc). then I open daz and do a search for the products and nothing to be seen. is there something I am missing?

They won't appear in Smart Content, or other views that use the Content Management System (Products, Categories, or Presets in the Property panes) but they should be in the Content Library under Daz Studio Formats>My Daz 3d Library>People>whatever folder - the read me should tell you the folder names to look for

You can also check the zip file to see what the structure is and where to find them in the content library. So if it is a Daz product looking under Daz Studio Formats, if Poser format under Poser. I find products can be useful to find a products location also also as you can right click on one of the icons and go to the file location.

Say in the zip its got a structure of People/Genesis8F/Clothing/File name you go to the Daz studio formats/People/Genesis8F/Clothing/Filename to find the product.

Don't forget the content directory - Daz studio formats/My Daz 3D Library/People/Genesis8F/Clothing/Filename by default.

The default content folder for DAZStudio is My Library, if you are using DIM to install content, DIM creates its own folder called My DAZ 3D Library. Make sure that that folder is linked to DS otherwise, you will not see any installed content. As mentioned above, 3rd party content will not be seen under the Smart Content tab, only in the Content Library Tab.

My content library is called something different to both of those and is on an external harddrive which is why I didn't include it. I assumed they would at least know where their content folder was.

Same problem I am beating my head against the wall trying to add the content. I just do not know what I did wrong. You would have figured in this day an age There would be a universal install manager to make this easier. Need help with installing content. I feel so frustrated.

What is the folder hierarchy of the zip file and into which content library folder are you attempting to install the files? Include screencaps to illustrate your particular problem.
