Free Stuff Submission Policy for tubes, backgrounds, and scenes.

2D renders of 3D products by other than the original 3D product creator will no longer be accepted for the Free Stuff Marketplace without written permission from the original 3D product creator to use the 3D product as a resource, and with the intent to distribute the 2D renders in the Renderosity Free Stuff Marketplace.

The following example letter can be used to contact the 3D creator:

Hello (insert 3D content creator name),

I love to work with your product, (insert name of product here), and would like to use it as a resource to create tubes/backgrounds to offer as downloads in the Renderosity Free Stuff Marketplace. Therefore, I need your permission and hope you will say yes.

Kind regards,

(insert your name here)

hi, i had an idea recently and i thought i could offer a series of freebies with it. i rediscovered my special graphic arts cam for DS (i mean, i fixed it...), and the renders look like FX you could do in a 2D prog like gimp, but it's made directly in the render, and those FX are pretty cool. you can render an image of whtever that looks like the gray striped images from a cctv cam, or a woodblock print etc. so i thought hey, why not make a series of cctv pix that someone can use as a texture on a monitor, a pc etc. and a series of wood prints like in those old books of tales, or maybe magic... the list of ideas is long.

now, i don't mind bundling them in packs of 3, i can understand that this helps anti-spamming the freestuff section a bit. but i am certainly absolutely not going to ask every content creator for every object/figure i use in my renders if they're ok with it, and i can check in case of freebies what their copyright note/readme says, since i consider those either as a textures, or as the same renders i could just as well staple in my gallery for everyone to download too...

so, how is this? ^^

erhhhh.. this was a question by the way. "how is this" meaning, in the case/with the idea i explained above, does that enter into a category where PAs need to be asked for permission, because it's considered on the same level as "just" a tube i.e. pretty much the item as sold with nothing done/created with but rendering in 2D, or is it considered as another case/category of freebie uploads  because after all, if done as intended, there's a lot of own work involved? and when i say i'm certainly not asking for permission with every single object i have in such a scene doesn't mean "i'm gonna upload it anyways with no permission" - it means if i have to do this, well...i won't do it at all...

Good move, if it can be enforced. We seem to have heard this sort of thing before, and it hasn't fixed the problem. But, regrettably, the above new notice has not had enough thought put into it.

Problem: It seems to prevent those making a valid freebie (i.e. a plugin, 3D accessories, clothing textures, or scripts) from using a 3D figure render to promote their freebie. For instance, I make a Python script and want to illustrate it in action. It seems I now have to also make my own figure(!!) in order to demonstrate my freebie to downloaders. This is obviously an utterly ridiculous situation.

Solution: If the above wording is not corrected then the policy will drive away most makers of 3D scripts and freebies. I suggest the guidance needs the following simple addition to fix it....

"The policy only applies if your freebie is classed by us as being 2D 'tubes', backgrounds, cutouts or scenes."

It applies mainly to things designed to substitute for the item in question,  like a 2d billboard of Victoria 8, or a background made from an environment set intended to substitute for the original set.  You don't need permission to use individual objects in a rendered background.

aaah.. finally this rule set is becoming clear. the operative word being "SUBSTITUTE"...this is thought so the creator of a 3d product doesn't feel ripped off in a way, because someone could literally prefer to use a free tube instead of buying their 3d product, because the 2d result is, after all, pretty much the same, save for the versatility of views ofc.

cool, this means there is no problem with what i'm thinking of doing.

also, i would personally be ashamed of repetitively "generously offering" something like a simple render of a 3d object on a transparent background like right outta the box as a freebie, even less as a purchasable product. same for random generated barely recolored clone outputs of programs like filterforge etc... that usually look like nothing, really. one exception would be excellent textures from one particular site, and i'm not even sure their tos allows that.

but yeah, maybe i should reflect on what Adrian Rogers said, lol...

anyway, thanks for the reply ^^
also, nice to meet a fellow polyglotte ^^
