Subject: Need advice to fix hand distortion

infinity10 ( ) posted Fri, 01 July 2022 at 2:03 AM · edited Sat, 16 November 2024 at 11:03 AM

I used the Daz2Blender Bridge to import a commercial character of the Genesis 8 Male into Blender3D version 3.2 (nVidia Omniverse flavour).

I get these distorted hands when the file is transferred.

I know that if the problem occured inside Daz Studio, the fix is to Adjust Rigging To Shape inside DS.

However, the problem exists inside Blender3D, not DS.  Inside DS, the morph character is fine.

Is there a setting inside Blender3D that I can use to fix the distorted hands ?  Please advise me, thanks.

( I have contacted Daz3D Tech Support but they tell me they don't deal with the Bridge matters, and that I should contact the bridge programmers directly, but I have not done so yet, because I don't think it is a Bridge problem, but a rig-related setting.)

As of my current understanding the Daz to Blender bridge only currently supports Blender 2.9 and Blender 3.0 and above have made some changes in python that scripts or add-ons from prior to 3.0 are not operating as they should most add-on developers have fixed this but even the most current version of Daz's bridge still does not work with Blender 3.0 and above and since 3.2 is still recent release there are still some bugs in it. Maybe someone at either Daz Support or their forum may have come up with a work around. Sorry wish I could offer more help

I agree with Lobo.  Looks like a weight mapping issue on the fingers, probably caused by certain incompatibility between the python version of the addon and this version of Blender.

Excuse me !Try  to old version of  blender(blender<3.0).

And it maybe low RAM of system. As we know ,blender need ram enough.if it is, try to stop other app to reduce low ram.

Or,you can contact that product's author, which you should ask what version of daz and blender that author use.

Good health.

I have not received any response from any of the support forums I have contacted.  However, I continued pursuing the topic on my own, and found some leads.

There is a function called Preserve Volume in Blender's UI - but I cannot locate it as yet.  Apparently that may be one way to prevent the morphs from distorting the mesh unnaturally.

Another possible route to investigate is to add a Vertex Group to the distorting parts (in my case, the hands) . See this: https://blender.stackexchange.com/questions/249993/preserve-volume-vertex-group  I have not attempted this solution yet, but it seems plausible as a solution.

OK doing a quick search for the Preserve Volume in Blender is this link from the Blender Manual  https://docs.blender.org/manual/en/latest/modeling/modifiers/deform/armature.html  Seems you find the option in the modifier stack under the Modifier Stack for the Armature also I noticed you are using a Blender version that looks like a custom build have you tried using just default Blender version there might actually be conflicting mods with in that build you are using that might be the root cause of the issue you are running into.

@Lobo3433 - thanks for the information. I'll explore the Armature Modifier options in realtion to my problem.  I note your advice on the version of Blender I am using.

Problem is resolved.  I had tried to transfer the figure with an animation applied to it.  Developers responded to me with a checklist and the one item I had not done was to set the figure in zero pose before transferring via the bridge.  So I do not have to fix anything inside Blender.  Here are my attempts at sending over a fresh figure without animation and in zero pose. Character is still applied inside Blender. No hand distortions.
