Subject: I'm trying to buy a poser..but

uzhuzh ( ) posted Thu, 09 February 2023 at 4:50 AM · edited Sat, 04 January 2025 at 11:54 PM

But there is one problem. As a result of my research, I know that an importer is required to send G3 or higher Genesis figures from DAZ to poser, but now the sales page has completely disappeared. (https://www.daz3d.com/dson-importer-for-poser). In this situation, is it impossible to use a genesis figure in a poser? Is there any other way?

I think it’s not impossible, but you need workaround’s. The last Genesis figure that works well in Poser was Genesis 2 (male and female). The newer figures don’t work well in Poser.

So if you prefer Poser 11 or 12 you should consider the Poser native figures or V4 / M4 from DAZ.

V4 and M4 are still available with Poser installer.

Genesis 3, 8 and 9 work well with all the possibilities in the native program that is for free  with a big “But” !!!  -you need a few add on to make the program work like Poser. At last, it is a decision which figures you like more and which program you prefer.

I think they are looking for the DSON importer...

If I had a nickle for ever time a woman told me to get lost, I could buy Manhattan.

V4 and M4 are not part of the Poser legacy figures, you need to purchase them from DAZ 3D.  The DSON Importer is no longer available and any tutorial documentation explaining how to import the earlier Genesis models seem to have disappeared.  You can check the tutorial section for anything posted there and perhaps YouTube.com.

If you already have DSON, and Poser11, this may interests you.

Unfortunately, I wouldn't recommend it unless you have Dimension3D's XL Library Manager and Semidieu's Shaderworks Library Manager2 installed on your system.  Go with the original freebie found here and follow the PDF tutorial.  No other software or plugins are needed except for DAZStudio.

I don't have both...

Thank you for your reply. Yes I read willdial's tutorial and tested it in the Pose 12 demo. Exporting the G3 to a cr2 file was successful, but when I tried to import it in Poseer, an error appeared.  "in <module> import dson.dzdsonimporter ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'dson'" The dson importer seems essential for his tutorial. Or is it because I'm using the trial version? Is it possible to import genesis in poser 11 by following his tutorial without an importer?

I've been looking for the managers you mentioned, but all the download links seem to be dead as is the DSON importer. I've already spent a lot of money on DAZ content, so I'd love to do the same for Pose, but I'm sad.

Nope, that will not work with P12.  DSON is completely broken with the Python upgrade.  The only alternative is creating the CR2 formats in DS, but there is no absolute guarantee that they will work properly in P12.  Most of my P12 imports rely on resaving the figures from P11 after DSON Importing.  That workflow works for me, I have fully functional models that way with their morphing capabilities.  I don't think anyone even bothers to jump through the hoops because I haven't seen any Poser/Genesis renders in the gallery.

So that means that only people who have purchased the DSON importer in the past can currently import genesis into the P11. Thank you for your reply..

If I remember right, the DSON importer was free.

That's correct.  When it was first made available it was free.  That's how I got it.

DAZ's free DSON Importer for Poser is what you seem to be looking for. It is no longer officially available, but so far as I'm aware can run with all(?) Poser 11 versions. It still works for me.

As you seem to be aware, in terms of 'automatic and easy' import, it's limited to automatic and easy importing the early DAZ Genesis figures, 1 and 2. Genesis 3 was apparently possible, but I was put off by the finicky and involved workflows I'd seen.

If you manage to find it (not too difficult) then you'll also want "the DSON Loader" which was a helper script that worked with DSON. This can also still be found, in this case archived as a .zip via the WayBack Machine. Again, this still works for me. This tries to load a Genesis 1 or 2 figure even if for some reason it had no Poser CF support files with it. I'm not sure if it ever supported the figure you want, Genesis 3, though.

Either way, on import any 'butterfly eyelashes' problem is then cured in Poser 11 via: Scripts / DSON Support / SubDivision / Set SubDivision OFF.  Not ideal, and there may be better ways, but it fixes the problem.

If you just want Genesis 3 (or 8) in Poser for Comic-book / Sketch reference (for later filtering, drawing or painting over), then you could also export as a static 'posed and clothed' .obj file sized for Poser. The free 'Automatic OBJ Exporter' for DAZ does this very easily and the exports are geared to Poser sizing. Again, it's free and easily found if you look. Though ideally you'll have Atangeo Balancer in its simple workflow, as the polygon reducer.

I will never upgrade from Poser 11 because  use the disappeared DSON python plug-in every day. BUT I use Genesis 3 and 8 content in Poser all the time by exporting clothing, shoes, and hair from DS as obj’s that I import to Poser and fit and rig to native Poser figures. I posted a long tutorial in this board.

You do know that you can have multiple versions of Poser installed and running on a system at the same time, don't you?  The only real constraint would be how fast and how much memory you have on that system.  I have run both Poser 9, 11 and 12 at the same time while working through issues with scenes etc.

Poser 5, 6, 7, 8, Poser Pro 9 (2012), 10 (2014), 11, 12, 13

Thanks for the answer, but I don't have a DSON importer, so using P11 doesn't seem to make sense.

Similar to this method, can G8 figures be extracted as OBJ and used as characters?

I'll just have to think about purchasing it again when poser13 comes out. Thank you for all your kind answers.

In principle, yes. You'd probably have to use Genesis 2 as the donor and rig it twice, the first time with G2F unzeroed to the obj, and then again with the result unzeroed to a zeroed G2F. But the rigging of the hands and eyes would be REALLY hard to get right, so I've never bothered to try. I have freebie body shapes that get La Femme pretty darned close to the just retired Genesis figure (Jenny 8 for La Femme) and Pauline to her predecessor. La Femme has face chips of her own. I see no real advantage to using a kludge that doesn't work all that well natively in Poser.
