Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 02 8:28 pm)
Yes Evilinnocence's Crossdresser :) Oh it can convert from Genesis to V4, you need to export the cr2 from DAZ to use it.
I asked because I always struggle at the export. Sometimes it seems it only do export a part of the clothing and not the whole item :( So I was wondering if someone maybe is doing this and has a plan "how to".
You can only convert from Genesis to other figures, if you want to convert from other figure to Genesis you need to convert to V4 first and put it into DAZ, but since I have no idea how to use DAZ I never thought about the process XD
This is Fairy Outfit for Karyssa 8 and Genesis 8 Female on a V4 .. well not all items worked for converting and they got a bit crunchy and the materials need a bit work.. but in general it works ... sometimes.
Is this the latest version of CrossDresser? I don't have that setting on mine. I will have to check it out.
Did you try converting the clothing from Triax before converting? IIRC, Genesis 8 clothing is rigged differently from Genesis.
Trying to convert through another conversion does not always yield satisfactory results.
Okay, I spoke too soon about the Genesis setting in CrossDresser 4. I do have that setting but haven't used it yet.
Keep in mind, expect some distortions to the mesh when converting between disimilar figures; the process is not perfect, and you may spend time correcting the clothing with the Morph Brush in Poser. I never had any luck doing a second conversion on a clothing item; the rigging gets convoluted and the mesh can become distorted and unusable. Successful conversion will depend on the type of clothing you are converting: pants and tops will be easier than dresses, unless you take the process further and create a dynamic prop for the Cloth Room.
"Did you try converting the clothing from Triax before converting?"
I am sorry, I didn't understood.. maybe the answer must be "no"
Sometimes I try to use dforce clothing by importing into Poser but the most clothing need forever to fit via dynamics :( I have no clue why, some clothes are possible to fit to V4 but not to La Femme. Same cloth, same settings... they fit dynamic to V4 and to La Femme the same cloth will need forever until Poser give up. I tried to reduce polygons.. sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't work. I always would prefer dynamic from dforce clothing but my Poser cant handle it. Or is it normal that it takes very long? (20 minutes and much much more, just for draping before the dynamic process starts)
This conforming Dress was made for G8 too.. it fit much better, even not all poses are possible... soft poses work much better XD
"Pixiedust Dress for Genesis 8 Females"
My workaround is:
- export cr2 from DAZ - convert with crossdresser - load and conform to V4 in Poser - fit via fitting room - make new figure -maybe morphbrush if needed ... but the fitting room figure fits a bit better than the original from crossdresser.
I have no clue if I am doing it right XD but sometimes it works good :D
Willdial included a pdf tutorial for converting clothing for Genesis 3 & 8 in his updater application. Select the outfit and convert its rigging from General Weight to TriAx Weight. Once the rigging is converted, the outfit is saved as a Scene subset. According to the instructions, you need to create a Poser Companion File, which generates the CR2 file you could work with in CrossDresser.
These instructions were created using DSON Importer in Poser 11. Sadly, I have found that the application is not working for me any more in Poser 11, which indicates something has changed in the process.
oh ... hm.. I think this is something I never thought about. Do I need to setup in Poser, or in DAZ? Do you have a hint for me? :)
I am not sure but I think I read since Poser 11 updated Python DSON didn't work anymore?
I have some Poser DSON items too, I thought I can convert directly to V4 because they have cr2 and obj, no need to use DAZ for these, but I am not sure XD
DSON Importer does not work with P12 because of the Python Script change, and, from what I understand, there was a version of the importer that didn't work well in P11. I was able to use the importer with G3F in the past, but not recently. I may revisit that scenario when I have an opportunity.
The next 3 images are taken from Willdial's tutorial. Technically, they were created for DSON Importer, but I see no reason why it shouldn't partially work for your purposes.
Looking at the setup, I think you can skip the second image because it is creating an association with DSON Importer. The third image step is more relevant because you are creating the CR2 file from the converted rigging.
hm I can confirm .. not all dresses or items seems to work, sometimes it only export a tiny bit of an outfit (like the belt only)
I get an error too, it is mostly because of the textures but if I click "confirm" it will export anyway.
if I put the cr2 in Crossdresser it always know that donor was Genesis.
This is how it looked fresh from Crossdresser (it is conformed)
After conforming I go into the Fitting Room and make a new Fegure... I have no clue what are the settings for but it nearly always work XD
here we are.. a basic better fitting G8 Dress which follow easy poses and maybe need a bit of Morphing Tool.. but it is usable. ( I am not sure why she has handles on her feet) LOL
I really wished Vendors would make a Version for V4 or LaFemme for Poser users. In past most of the clothing had 2 versions, some old Poser clothing were recreated for DAZ but nearly nobody wants to make things for Poser. Look at L Homme 2... poor guy is freezing and frosting in winter, L Homme 1 too. If there is a Sale or Bogo here on Renderosity there are nearly no items for Poser Users, most are props for Poser... and a hand full of clothing for La Femme... if we have luck some old V4 items. Sooner or later Poser users lands in DAZ if they want cool new items. Or I am to fastidious? (is this the right word?)
When I get an opportunity, I will sit down and play with the conversion process from DAZ to Poser.
In my opinion, the Fitting Room is either hit or miss. You can warp and distort the mess if you run the iterations too long (higher number value). I keep tight control of this and examine the results. Otherwise, I spawn a new object file from CrossDresser and rerig the outfit in the Setup Room.
I found this tutorial from SIGASIGA in Freestuff really helpful about understanding how to use the setup room.

Prefitter has a V4 to Genesis3 converter in Freestuff, but I don't know if you can use Prefitter in reverse. I've never really used Prefitter before, because I never really used the setup room before until I used SIGASIGA's tutorial.
I love XD4 and also wish there was G3 to V4 conversion.

I am not sure, maybe I didnt get this .. but I think XD4 can do G3 to V4 o.O I am not dure but I thought I had read Genesis 1 to 8 are possible ... well .. we know they are not 100% accurate ... but maybe they are usable too. I will have a look.. I think I have some GF3 clothing too. (My BF was in Poser so I can use 2 massive Runtimes... its always like christmas XD )
XD4 does not have any provision for DAZ figures higher than Genesis. Don't misunderstand that the designation means all Genesis versions. There are differences between all the figures, which require 3rd party apps to autofit clothing and translate poses from version to version.
You need to consider the mesh type you use when converting clothing. I have noticed tears in the mesh when working with CR2 format clothing used with the Poser Fitting Room. My workflow to correct this is to convert the CR2 to an OBJ file, weld the vertices in a third-party app, and import that mesh into Poser's Set Up Room. If the Fitting Room needs to be used for final tweaks, I use the Prefit setting with very low iterations to avoid distorting the mesh.
Everything depends on mesh complexity. XD4 performs adequately in converting outfits, but it may be necessary to adjust settings to eliminate pokethroughs and mesh distortions. Importing a CR2 file Poser might require minor adjustments in the Fitting Room; alternatively, I might export an OBJ from Poser, reimport it, and run the rigging through the Set Up Room. To prevent tears in the mesh before rigging, I may weld the vertices in a third-party application.
Blender can weld vertices. It's only a few steps.

Hi :)
Does anyone using Crossdresser to convert clothing from Genesis 1-8 to V4 or La Femme?
Does it work? XD
