Subject: dForce to Dynamics problem

mwafarmer ( ) posted Mon, 20 January 2025 at 3:55 PM Ā· edited Fri, 31 January 2025 at 10:07 PM

Hi, all

I have been working with dynamic clothing in Poser 13 for a while and find a simulation usually takes no more than a few minutes on my MacBook Air. Recently I decided to try my hand at converting a DAZ Studio dForce outfit to a Poser dynamic one. I had no problems exporting it as an OBJ, importing it into Poser and assigning materials, but when i go to run the simulation it sits at "Calculating dynamics ..." until I lose patience and kill it, usually after an hour or so.

Could this be an issue caused by the high polygon count? The outfit is a ski suit, so it covers most of the body and is pretty high-resolution. Is there a way around this?

Thanks in advance,

Mike

Try saving the suit at the base mesh resolution when you export the obj. Then it will have fewer polygons, and after simming you can increase the subdivision.

Assuming the suit uses subdivision to make it more high resolution.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll try that.

I have the same issues.. or impatience XD

Sometimes it helps if I look in DAZ to set Subdivision to 0, but not all chlothes seem to have this option. Sometimes, if I see the obj. (imported into Poser) has many many polygons I reduce the polygones via the menue (object - reduce polygones).. sometimes it workes good ^^ I usally reduce as much as I can without destroying the mesh. DAZ clothing are incredible high polygoned... I have no Idea how can DAZ handle this and Poser not :(

Well, I was able to run out of memory and crash Poser, so I clearly need to do a bit more research there (and close a few programs)! šŸ˜€

Thanks for the pointers.

even my brand new computer can't handle some dForce clothing XD or I am very very impatience.. wich also can be XD I don't want to wait more than an hour just for 1 drape, and dynamic isn'tĀ  starting without draping XD

if the Cloth item has subdivision you can set it in DAZ at the parameter Pane under ā€œgeneralā€ from ā€œHigh Resolutionā€ to ā€œBaseā€ then export it as Obj to Poser

could you make a screenshot please? :) I only use DAZ to export, I always search for this function on the right panel, but not all clothing seems to have this option, or I just didn't find it XD

There is also a very useful Studio Plugin called ā€œdecimatorā€, but itā€™s not cheap (I bought it on sale), with this plugin you can reduce the polys with a slider to your need. I think Blender has a similar function, but I donā€™t use blender.

Uh thank you for the screenshot, I will try it later again ^^

Poser can reduce polygones too :)
