Subject: Michael nostril map location?

Ghostofmacbeth ( ) posted Sun, 11 November 2001 at 9:35 PM · edited Sat, 08 February 2025 at 11:45 AM

Weird question I know but does anyone know where the exact point where the nostril is on the Michael map? I am trying to get rid of the glow and since the nose is more pug than normal it is worse than normal. Thanks

hmm, just set the object colour in the materials editor to grey or brownish - try as dark as you need till the glow goes away. i don't know cos i don't have michael, just a guess from remapping dork's nostrils :)

I would try that but too much of the nostril is showing ... It only affects the top of the nostril and wih the nose he has in my character I nees a little more.

um, just looking at the template, there doesn't seem to be a spot for michael's nostrils except directly on the head area, so you can't paint right inside it... unless you remap it to spread out better. i could be totally off without the silly model to look at %) vicki has the nostrils mapped out, iirc, i would have thought mic would too. wanna show a preview of your character? :)

look for the michael seam guide from snow sultan in free stuff.

You can cheat like I did for Vicky, run it through UVMapper, select everything, hide everything, then select the nostrils material, show it, and then save the MAP... copy and paste it into your texture map, and then you can see exactly where you need to make adjustments... just make sure that the two images are the same size before you paste. :)

oops just looked at the seam guide, and the nostrils aren't separated. so here's the relavant section with the nostrils in red.

I was afraid of that ... didn't think to check the seam guide until after I posted this. I was sleepy S thanks all. Hope I can get in there and all.

When I had to fix this problem for my Heline character (based on Posette) before 3DCommune would agree to sell it, what I did was use the Grouping tool to set the nostrils aside as a separate material. Since Mike already has nostrils as a material, you can use the Grouping tool to add polygons to the nostril material until you're satisfied. I'd go that route and skip the whole UVMapper thing altogether.
