Subject: Newbie wants to know why nobody uses Poser for animations and other things...

I realize that Poser has a very steep learning curve for animation but from what I have heard it is probably the best animation program out there. Maybe there's something I don't know and that there are better programs. I would think that because of the huge number of characters that are available and the kind of characters that they are that someone would come along and make adult-oriented erotic features. Are there other programs out there that are comparable to Poser that are better? Geez, I don't even know what the other programs are?

If you're genuinely interested in Poser and animation there's a list, Poseamation over on Yahoo groups. But, you're right, there aren't that many who use it for animations. There are a few adult sites around, mine for example Shock(hey why not, everyone else does)Exos Studios and Eros 5.

I have done a few animations using Poser. They are basically very short but do include music and some voiceovers.

There are other programs that you can do character animation with.

Hash Animation Master 2001
Cinema 4D
Lightwave
3D Studio Max
Maya
Softimage
Etc.

The problem comes in the fact that most of these programs cost several thousand dollars (or more). The exception is Hash Animation Master at $299.00. Another problem is that these programs also require you to be very proficient at modeling. They have very few ready made characters compared to Poser.

With that said, IMHO, Poser is the best. It has fairly good animation tools (being IK and the animation pallete). It is easier to learn than some of the other programs listed above. It has tons of ready made characters and is only about $220.00. I have of course spent additional money for characters and props (Mike and Vicky etc.). If you factor in the amount of time (and money) it would take to create these types of characters and props Poser is still the biggest bang for the buck! :)

As far as learning how to animate with Poser, Practice, Practice, Practice! I myself am still learning. It may take another year or so before I truly become good at it.

Anyway before I ramble on to much here is the link to my site.

Click "skip intro" if you do not want to wait for the Flash Teaser and then click "animations" on the side nav to see the movies.

All the best,

There is a company in the U.K. which have two t.v. series in production (that have been sold for a total of 26 episodes) they are based on adult books, and are animated using Bryce 4, Poser 4, and Amorphium. I have seen things in commercials on t.v. that really look like they were done in poser as well. Most serious production companies will not be brought to poser for it's variety of characters, due to copyrights they would be no good for merchandise, and thus it would be hard to pitch the production. There are similiar programs to poser that are for High End 3d Software. Curious Labs is trying to break in to this High End or "profesional" level reputation. Though it has serious limitations for high end users. I like it though, and strongly recommend it. here is the site for the U.k. company. http://www.rengamedia.com/index2.html Deimos.

If you go over to DAZ3d they have a few small animation packages. Does anyone know of a site that sells animation files for poser or a place where Poser uses share the animation files they create?

Sparhis: Poseamation sells animation files and motions for Poser. Check it out at www.poseamation.com (you can also get them from Daz) Hope this helps! --silver

I have a lot of Poser animations on my site...they are very much adult in nature.. I think it violates the TOS for this site to post the link so send me an email and I will send you the url if you are interested. Ed
