You might be interested in the new tutorial about Michael's texture settings, as created by the DAZ Michael Map.

cool, thanks :)

You're quite welcome. Let me know if they're of any help.

Nice work on the tutorial; although it might benefit from a couple good example pix, it does present the process effectively. I've earmarked it as a good url to refer newbies to. - I especially liked the whimsical but effective & nicely done "What is Poser" tut at your site (although I was confused for a second when I noticed the heading on the 3rd page G Michael & Victoria in Poser 3???) Kudos on a nice job ;-))

ronknights ( ) posted Sun, 18 November 2001 at 6:20 PM

OH, you're talking about the page numbers at the top of the page: What is Poser 3 I think.

leather-guy ( ) posted Sun, 18 November 2001 at 6:36 PM

Yeah, just for a second. but the Tuts were very well done. :-))

Well you inspired me to rework the Michael Texture tutorial the way I should have done it to begin with. With any luck the newly redone tutorial will be available for viewing tonight. Give me a couple hours at least. The wife is running around looking for winter coats, etc...That is often too distracting.

I've totally redone my Michael Texture tutorial. The first thing you'll notice is that you can click on various parts of Michael's body to load a page showing a closeup of that body part, along with the proper texture settings. You will also find an alphabetical list of all those settings on every page in that tutorial. And you will see some really great closeups of each body part. Just a note: You can always find my Tutorials section by clicking on any page within my site. http://www.ronknights.com And you can check my News section to keep up with any additions. I may be adding new stuff each day. I know I still have much to learn, but I like to share what I've learned as well. I was having a rough time figuring the texture thing out, and some of you helped me tremendously. Then you inspired me to do this tutorial and to make it even better. Thanks.

Ron; A wonderful attitude! Personally I think a few well-presented tutorials are worth more to the average newbie than most of the freebies & products available, in terms of boosting their fun & productivity with poser. - And Tutorials last longer than the threads here. Just this week there have been over 300 postings in this forum. Twelve pages. In one week. - that's a lot of browsing & clicking for most newcomers. especially since most posters seem to prefer vague, non-specific headings for their posts. With the average 56K dial-up, even at full 53K, it's 'way too time consuming for most newbies to search very far back before posting. More Tuts would save them a lot of time. Well done! ps- I got such a kick out of the humorous tome of the "What is Poser" tut, I couldn't resist re-reading it when I went to enjoy your improved Mic-Tex tut (too many abbr? - I bttr stp:-)). Saw you refined the page headings, too. G Render On! Jerry B leather-guy

Thanks very much for the kind words. I just uploaded another short tutorial answering the question: "What are textures?!" I am liable to do a few short tutorials like this one. The idea is to let things weave together so the reader doesn't have to chew a full course meal at once... Appetizers first, then the main meal, then dessert (spelling?!)

Love the way you set up the mike texture tutorial. I also thought the "what is poser" section cute, but you have a lot of references to things that only another poser addict would know. constuctive critisism to follow: If someone truly doesn't know about poser they aren't going to know what zygote, vicky, Rei hai, etc... is either. (Also Vicky isn't wearing the Rei hair in the pictures, that's the Alice hair) In your tutorial you could throw in links to where a person would find the items you are demonstrating. For example you say "Poser is a 3D Character animation and design tool." You could say instead "Poser is a 3D Character animation and design program availible from Curious Labs." making the word curious labs a link. Anyway you get the idea. One last thing, when you design a tutorial you have to first forget everything you know about the subject and then walk yourself through the learning process.

Shadowcat; Good tips - ever thought of doing a Poser Tutorial Tutorial? LOL

leather-guy ( ) posted Mon, 19 November 2001 at 1:20 AM

Ron; Just peeped your "what are textures" tut - short & effective, have you considered one on base colors? - How to apply & an example of how base color changes affect the appearance of a texture? I've seen lists of the popular Poser characters, but can't recall if I've seen them as a separate tut or not. G - One thing about Poser users, feed our addiction & we just get greedier & greedier. ;-) This isn't often enough said, but; Many thanks to all who write the tuts that keep us growing; Not just ronknights & shadowcat, but all the others as well. Many many thanks!

Thank you all for your encouragement and great suggestions. You may not have noticed that my web site has a couple sections that would answer some of your concerns. 1.) I have an extensive Poser Links page. 2.) I have a Poser Resources section which is an attempt to portray some of the many great Poser-related stuff I found. This section is mostly free stuff, although a few "commercial items" started to show up. (I need to update that section more later, but I'm having fun doing other things for now.) I think I can easily incorporate some of your suggestions directly into the tutorials. (Links to Curious Labs, etc.) OH, and yes, I'd better fix the reference to Vicki's hair! It's Alice Hair, right? I really want to provide links to the people who provided all this excellent stuff. So if you know the link to the creators of Alice Hair, for example, send it along to me. I will start a MS Word document containing some of your suggestions, and concerns. That way I can easily refer to them later. If you want to contact me directly, you can use the Contact Me link on every one of my web pages. By the way, my real name is Ron Knights (that's why my username here is ronknights...) Most of my friends and relatives said they'd rather I use my real name than an alias. I have my own Domain, which is www.ronknights.com The "trademark" symbol on all my pages is actually a picture of me when I was about 3 years old. I figure no one else can own my picture, right? ObviousCity is the name of my "fictional company" that doesn't make any money. Teehee.

Leather-guy, I can easily take some screenshots done for the Texture Tutorial, and explain about changing the base colors. Thanks a lot for that idea.

I've started a new section called "The Poser World." The idea is to show some of the "key elements, companies, web sites" in the Poser World. I'm having just a bit of trouble with this one. I don't want it to be a direct repetition of the Poser Links section. So far I tell about Curious Labs, DAZ3D, Renderosity, 3D Comic Collective, Mike, Vicki. That's as far as I got. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions for this section. You can reply here, or use the email link on the first page of Poser World. Thanks again for your suggestions and support.

Alice hair & Rei hair both come from Digital Babes http://digitalbabes2.com/ Hmm, a tutorial on making tutorials? I'd have to think about that, lol.

igohigh ( ) posted Mon, 19 November 2001 at 3:14 PM

Thanks HEAPS for I just got Mike and there are a LOT of differences from the P4Dork and Eve4. This is VERY helpful ;-D

ronknights ( ) posted Mon, 19 November 2001 at 3:54 PM

You're quite welcome. I am working on a more detailed tutorial about how to go through and setup each individual texture. It's a long involved process. So far the screenshots are done. I just need to assemble it all and put it up on the site. In the meantime, I bought the Michael 2 Standard Resolution texture maps for $19.95. (I figure that's good enough for now.) The great thing about the Michael 2.0 texture maps is they work on Michael 1 in addition to Michael 2!!! AND, they feature MAT Poses. That means you just click on a few icons to have all the textures setup for you! If you have at least $19.95 to spare, get those Michael 2 standard resolution textures. I will finish the tutorial because I always like to finish what I started, especially if it's a project to help others. But after that, it's Michael 2 textures all the way. And they work on Musclebound Mike too.
