Even though many people have made good models of this character before, most were kind of off, mainly due to generally low quality of the default Posette character. She's one of my favorite charachters, so I've been trying to make a high quality, realistic model for quite awhile now, and had given up on it a few weeks ago. Then, I started over from scratch yesterday, and came up with this after only a few hours. The nostrils are a little off, as well as a few other things, but I think its pretty close. Can't do much more than this using the normal Vicky2 dials. Other people will see mistakes that I don't, so hence the reason for this post. :) Thoughts, comments, suggestions and criticism are all welcome. Let me know what you think.

Jimbo

PS - I know the hair is bad. It was a quick Photoshop cut & paste job from a real photo. I can't find a really high-quality hair model that is right.

Hmmmm.... All done with the dials? WILL YA SHARE!!!! please?

zoozI2000 ( ) posted Sat, 24 November 2001 at 3:03 PM

just kidding:-) but I think gillian has a beauti mark somewhere on her face. (P.S: YiPPiii! I joined the club and purchesed a Wacom Graphire Tablet, I don't know how I managed without it) hmmm...:) sorry

zoozI2000: Actually, the mark is there. Right above her mouth on the left side (her left). I'm not trying to make an actual Gillian model, but rather her character. I don't know the legalities of actually calling it by the character's name (could be copyright infringement and all of that noise). The actual character doesn't have the mark -- they cover it with makeup. Since I used an actual promo photo for the texture, its there. :) Cody, I'll most likely release the character when its done. I have to figure out how to do that though, since its a V2 character and from what I've read on the board, it can be tricky. Jimbo

Yeah...Thats why I asked if you did it all with the dials'. Cuz then,,,I don't think that there would be a problem! Update us...This is the closest I've seen to what she looks like.

Looks promising. Keep up the good work! Maybe a profile is necessary to evaluate the nose. Also, you have to remember that Gillian is rather short, and Victoria is long and lanky (if you want to do any full length shots) I have done some recreations with P4 girls, including Julia Roberts. I don't know if Victoria 2 has enough of the right morphs to make this kind of thing possible, and I would like to see someone else try. Vairesh might have some good hair for this. Even the default Victoria layered flip is somewhat Scully-like.

to share a V2 character done completely with the dials, simply give out a facial pose and the texture.

I've tried to keep the entire model as realistic as possible, and that includes the body. Gillian is short and is kind of think through the shoulders, arms and chest. I don't mean overweight, she just has larger upper body muscles. Here is a profile shot to show the nose, which is pretty close. Like I said earlier, the nostrils are hard to do because of the lack of proper morphs, but the curve of the nose is close. As far as the hair goes, I have been trying to buy Vairesh's Dana hair (coincidence in naming?) for the last two days, but Renderosity is having problems with their shopping cart. So... have to wait on that one. Thanks for the feedback. Its much appreciated. I'll keep posting updates, so anyone who's interested in the progress can check back here.

Online Now!

That's a ways to go on doing a Scully (her face is more oval), but it's a hell of a great Irish mug. If you could share the current face settings or .FC2 I'd be grateful.

Looks excellent! Reading the DAZ FAQ, I see that a straight FC2 file is fine for distrib (Also PZ2 HD2 & MAT files - just not CR2's for Vic2). Thought about trying some fine work with magnets on those nostrils? Theres also some data on creating distributable morph targets created from your dial settings (see link to DAZ FAQ).

Let me know if you want any help in packaging this up.
If you are using outside morphs as well as V2 morphs, it is fairly simple to include a combination outside morph in the pose file that has the V2 dial settings.
I have some nostril morphs on my site.

It is also easy to include the scale channels.
For scaling, I suggest you consider the following:
Body - only: scale
main body groups - only: Yscale
arms - only: Xscale
head/eyes - only: scale

As for the others? e.g. X or Z scale on the abdomen and not using the same on hip and chest can mess up how the groups meet. This then produces a chain reaction. Using Body solves this.
You cannot use an isolated axis on Body though: the Y is the universe Y, not the figure Y; the same for X & Z. If you do all three the same, this does not matter.

Thanks for the offer, and I'll mostly likely need it. I've never released anything for Posette, let alone V2, so I'll no doubt need help. Also, I have a possibly stupid question: How does one go about making clothes fit a character after the dials are altered? There are some decent clothes objects for Vicky, but when you put them on the clothes are all wrong. The breast size, shoulers, arms, etc. I know that there are clothes out there that will conform to the target perfectly, but how do you get the normal Vicky clothes to fit? I'd like to make some textures and things for the V2 clothing so that when I release the character, she'll have some proper attire. Any suggestions other than magnets? I've never been good with them. Clothing is a mesh, the same as the figure it is meant for - fixed chicken wire, as it were. Right now, only way it can change shape (apart from JP=dynamic magnets) is to morph it. The figure is altered by morphs, the clothing must be similarly altered. Magnets are a blunt, but ready way to do this. Poser allows you to select the figure that you wish to alter, so both the clothing mesh and the figure mesh can be present with little or no problem. With a righteous modeling program, it is probably a bit tricky to isolate the verts, but in return, you get fine control.
The clothing is formed over the figure mesh. Whatever the figure shape, this is the one the clothing will fit. New figure shape, and a new clothing shape needed.
Rather than think of clothing as cloth, think of it as plate armor.
There is only one Vicky and all morphs for the figure will hold through. There is potentially an infinite number of clothing items, each of which will require individual morphs. It can be overwhelming. Figure morphing is easier, because it is not necessary to match an existing shape precisely.
The idea behind VV is that for this particular shape, you get magnets that will duplicate it and because Poser will let you choose the groups affected, any clothing item can be easily morphed.
The point is: if you have a shape that you particularly like, taking the time to produce magnets that duplicate that shape, will allow you to use them to fit any clothing item. Not that you should use the magnets to morph Vic, because clothing does not need to be micro adjusted to fit.
If you care about fitting clothing, learn the magnets.

About the figure, when you have it in a final state, get in touch. I will tell you what I need from you. The result would be intended to meet DAZ rules and also be as efficient a download as is practical.

Jimbo, you're doing a bang-up job, and now that Jaager has stepped in, you're in good hands. He really helped me put the RealGrrls faces together, and this is the same kind of deal--custom morphs combined and popped into a little-used channel in V2 plus V2 face pose dial twiddling. Works like a charm. Just listen to Herr Doktor Jaager, you'll be fine. i look forward to seeing the whole character!
