Hello Master ! original plants, leaves, trees... How do you create them ? Can it be done in Vue ? or should I use another software ? I'm a bit tired of SolidGrowth... I'm waiting to be enlightened... AAFAYC, Eric

Well, I'm not Varian, but I'm pretty sure that what he uses for most of those teriffic plants is a program called Plant Studio, which can be found at the link above. However, never underestimate the power of using alternate textures and transmaps on those Solid Growth trees/plants in Vue. Between the several basic shapes that Vue has with Solid Growth, and applying alternate materials to them, there really isn't much that can't be done. :)

Here's a link to the official Plant Studio page; it's great for plants, but not for trees: http://www.kurtz-fernhout.com/PlantStudio/index.htm I really enjoy using TreeDruid for trees: http://www.zenstar.com/ Neither program will help you very much with textures. solemnchaos

I'm not Varian either, but there is also Tree designer (shareware). Have a look and download here. Guitta

LOL, sorry to get to this so late, Eric, but it looks like you've gotten some good response in the meanwhile. :D What I'll add is this: don't give up on SolidGrowth! All of my alternate leaves materials are based on SolidGrowth. You might think a fern is just a fern, but oh no, it can be *so* much more than that simply with a new texture! This image shows only one of many possibilities. Plus with SolidGrowth, you get very low polygons and bytes, thus being able to use a whole bunch of 'em without bogging down the scene. The place for the real info is Guitta's site at the link. Check out her tutorials for plants and leaves, and you'll discover an entirely new way to work with SolidGrowth! :)

LOL ! and after the tutorial go to Varian's site where you find quantity (and quality) of alternate leaves :-)

That's the way I also do it. You get perfect results. Every one different. I only use meshes if I have to like for a single flower or something. Remember trees can also become bushes and bushes can become trees. A good scanner is all you need to make them and a park nearby. Or there lots available aleady to download.

Guitta,

Your tutorial on "create new plants in VUE" is just
what I needed ! Thanks.
By the way, if I'm not wrong I think we are living in
the same little country...

Eric

gebe ( ) posted Fri, 14 December 2001 at 5:11 PM

To Eric: AH ??? VERY little country? Between France and Belgium and Germany ? What nobody outside Europe knows ? Where the people speaks letzebuergisch (I don't)?

audity ( ) posted Fri, 14 December 2001 at 6:09 PM

Yes, that's it ! the "secret" country... I can neither speak that barbarian language !!! Eric

gebe ( ) posted Fri, 14 December 2001 at 6:18 PM

LOL! Are you, like me, a "stranger" to this country ? English ? I'm a parisian.

audity ( ) posted Fri, 14 December 2001 at 9:21 PM

Guitta,

comprendre.

Eric

Eric, that's interesting :-) Not to disturb other users with our personal very OT story, I send you a message, also we can continue our discussion outside the group if you don't mind. :-)Guitta

audity ( ) posted Sat, 15 December 2001 at 6:51 AM

Guitta, Yes, we should not let the others think that there's something "private" going on between us... so, let's get back to the subject : Plants... (I'll answer your message later...) Eric
