Some of you might remember that I'm trying to bring my original character Marlin Fingle into the "real Poser world." Marlin was all excited about this prospect, and agreed to do some publicity photos. Marlin surprised me by showing up in this outfit. When questioned about his super powers, he answered "Gee, let me think about that." This is very much a Work in Progress. I've been working on Marlin for a decade or so as it is.

For those of you who are not yet laughing, here is another Super Marlin photo.

Well, I had my laugh today now.....LOL, Sharen

OK, Marlin deserves an emblem for his suit, right? I thought this was a nice touch. Remember Marlin made this outfit himself, so it should look a little crude. Marlin used a magic marker to draw the smiley face.

LOL, okay had another laugh today....Sharen :-)

LOL even my dogs are rolling on their backs and waving their paws in the air.

OK, now for the $10,000 question: Should Marlin have "trunks," even though they'll be eclipsed by his belly? In order to do his trunks, I basically have to repaint Marlin's entire body. I think I'll get ready for Christmas Dinner and think about this one.

melanie ( ) posted Tue, 25 December 2001 at 9:27 AM

Actually, I think he looks siller without the trunks. Maybe Marlin wouldn't think of that little detail. He seems like the kind of guy who isn't much of a stickler to details. He probably that one guy who shows up at sci-fi conventions wearing the most cheaply concocted makeshift costumes and thinks they look really cool. LOL! Melanie

So does anyone know of a good "morphable" cape? (Free?!) I have troubles posing Super Marlin. Half the time his feet go through his cape. I can't seem to find a good way to manipulate the cape to fix this problem.

chohole ( ) posted Tue, 25 December 2001 at 10:10 AM

I think may be he would have his Y fronts on over his tights, and as for a morphable cape, what about Jim Burton's dracula cape, or would that be a bit ott

Use the magnets. The cape should be as simple as it gets to morph. If you rotate the legs thru all the extremes that intend to use - one direction at a time. You morph the cape to each. You can then automate the morphs. If you add ERC script to each of the morphs and slave the morph to the rotation of the figure it was made for, the cape will move with the figure.

he needs some very funny boxer shorts or maybe,i have a cousin that when we were kids, this is before they made super hero out fits for kids,he used to dress up like superman.he would wear a set of his sister's leotards, tie a towel around his neck, and put on a pair of fruit of the loom jockyshorts and kneesocks over the leotards.i can still see him running thru the yard with his with his arms stuck out in front of him, pretending he was flying, and while he's doing this he's he's asking us,"is my cape sticking out like superman's?"on second thought i think the towel wasn't tied, but had a elephant size saftypin in it.sounds like he was retarded or somthing,right?150 IQ.anyway hope this gives you some ideas for your character,i still think he looks like adam sandler.i have to go and blackmail someone now, buy.

Bongo ( ) posted Tue, 25 December 2001 at 11:03 AM

Maybe Marlin's super power is that he can pass his leg through his cape!

sturkwurk ( ) posted Tue, 25 December 2001 at 12:34 PM

each section of that cape has a bend, twist and side to side morph... I use it all the time. Doug

I came, I rendered, I'm still broke.

ronknights ( ) posted Tue, 25 December 2001 at 3:26 PM

Thanks for the excellent suggestions. I know nothing about magnets... Most likely would need someone to walk me through that. I fiddled about with the cape, and didn't see anything I'd interpret as morphs. I need to look at it again. Do the morphs come when you have the body of the cape selected, or the individual parts?

OK, I tried my hand at hand-painting some trunks for Marlin. I thought it'd be a good idea to use the Michael seam guide... but well the trunks looked like they'd be too high. So I improvised, and succeeded in making a crude looking pair of trunks. The only problem is that I need to paint the smiley face emblem on the suit again... And I think one of the seams is a bit off. I'll try fixing those problems and then see if I can figure out that cape. If sturkwurks says it will morph, I believe him. lenman: I think many kids, including myself, ran around their yards playing Superman or some other beloved super hero. I can honestly say I never work my "bvd's" outside my clothes for anyone. I seem to remember a kid's cartoon that had a hero just about like the kid you described! I always thought it was strange showing a kid running around with his underwear outside his "super suit."

Little_Dragon ( ) posted Tue, 25 December 2001 at 4:05 PM

Aww, put PhilC's Michael boxer trunks on him, maybe with a polka-dot pattern. Or some Underoos. :)

ronknights ( ) posted Tue, 25 December 2001 at 4:11 PM

Hmm, we have the Michael boxer shorts with the union jack pattern?!

neurocyber ( ) posted Tue, 25 December 2001 at 4:15 PM

I like Little Dragon's idea. PhilCs boxer trunks for Michael sounds just right.

OK, here is a picture with Phil C's Union Jack boxers. Now, help me with the credits: Marlin: Mike1 by DAZ3D Suit (painted) by Me. Mike's Super boots by: Boxers by: Phil c?! Roof top Scene from Poserworld. Please help me fill in any blanks or make any corrections. Yes, I'm open for any reactions or suggestions on Super Marlin as well. I think his super power is that he makes people laugh so much that they can't do bad things!

Jaager ( ) posted Tue, 25 December 2001 at 8:05 PM

What Struckwurk describes are standard rotations. These would be on every segment. If there is a left and right side it can help you. These rotations can be slaved. Morph World has/had directions for magnets. If magnets are your only source for generating morphs, learning them would be time well spent. Actually, for what you have, the wave magnets may be worth a look also. Phil has shown these in action here. With a name: Marlin, I was expecting a dr blue, or blue green. And a fish head hat.

ronknights ( ) posted Tue, 25 December 2001 at 8:10 PM

Oh, you're talking about a fish?! I invented the name Marlin Fingle, and I don't think I was thinking of fish, because I don't eat that much fish. Does this story sound a bit fishy?! I guess one day I'll try to learn magnets. Until then I am already struggling to get out from under a pile of other stuff that I need to learn.
