Subject: Help!!! Totally flummoxed with Rei and Alice hair....

jbear ( ) posted Tue, 01 January 2002 at 10:51 AM · edited Fri, 29 November 2024 at 4:49 PM

After working with (and loving) Koz's morph and mk2 hair I decided to see what I could do with Alice and Rei. After three seperate installs (PInstall, plain WinZip, and manual placement according to the readme), Poser still claims they aren't valid Poser files. I can see the rsr's in the library pane, but selecting them gives me the same error msg. All three installs were from "fresh" downloads in case of corrupted files but, no luck. Using 4.03, PPP, w2k, sr2. Anybody able to help? TIA for any efforts Jbear

I never got them to work either. ;)

They work for me. Let me test them for you. Give me a while unless some one else can help. Sharen

Hmm, I have both and had no trouble installing or using them. They came in like any of the other Koz hair items. Does PPP have anything to do with it? It seems odd, though, that your other Koz hairs work fine, just these two. Sometimes an item will be a bit buggy for one person without explanation. Wish I could help, but I can sympathize. I've had files that just don't seem to work no matter what, while others have no problems. Melanie

Coffee brewing, I'm browsing, take all the time you need Sharen and thanks for the help... jbear

The zips had a "icon" file that choked PInstall and winzip. It had a character vis a three letter extension. I had to delete it from within the zip to even open the files, I'm wondering if it was needed somehow? If so, how am I supposed to uncompress, cause I don't think WinAce would recognise it either.

The bottom line for this: Open the HR2 in a TE. Near the top is a line that calls the geometry Runtime:Geometries:FOLDER:FILE The error means that FOLDER:FILE is not where the geometry is. Either move the geometry file to this folder, or change the line(s) in the HR2 to match where the file actually is. I think Poser has a folder in Geometries = hair (case matters). I just put all hair geometry here and TE the HR2/CR2/PP2 files to look there. (Hair props can be any one of these three.)

I'll try that and get back with the results.... BTW Thank you all very much, I'm consistently amazed by the way this community goes out of their way to help new folk. Thanks again!!! jbear

Jaager, I thought I knew what you were saying but between reading the solution and the text editor I got confused { version { number 4.01 } prop figureHair:1 { geomCustom Do I change propfigureHair:1? or geomCustom? No hair folder in geometries and putting one there named Custom with hr2 didn't work. There is a hair folder in libraries but it is where the file installed in the first place. This is almost as bad as registry editing or linux installing, but with the gracious help I'll get it yet :)... jbear

jbear, I added a fix to PInstall so it will take care of the Icon files. They have a illegal character in the file name which causes problems on Windows. You can download the updated version from the attached link. (version 1.3.2a)

I just downloaded the Rei hair from Digital Babes, and had no problems installing it. Watch out for the two Mac files that are included if you are using a PC (like me). The simplest install is to unzip all the files into a temp folder (except the XtraStuf.mac ones) then copy them all into one of the hair subdirectories inside Runtime/Libraries. If you want to keep your textures separate from your library files, then copy these elsewhere, but you'll have to tell poser where to find them when you load the hair the first time. - Mark

geomCustom would be followed by a series of "v" lines This is the actual prop and not an external call. It must be the Mac thing, because Poser does not need to look for the geometry. I usually convert these to external call (CR2Edit does this). It makes doing morphs practical. It also allows you to use the same hair prop on V2 and P4 and M2 cheaply. The HR2 files do not duplicate the geometry.

Jaager ( ) posted Tue, 01 January 2002 at 3:42 PM

I use a program - PowerDesk - that treats zip files as though they were folders, so I just drag the files I want instead of using any internal paths. I never use these anyway, even with DAZ auto installers, I unload the files on another drive and copy what I want, where I want, and edit the geometry calls if I don't want a new folder in geometries (which I usually don't.) The hassle with CR2Edit, is that it makes a new folder, but it has to. I just move-rename the geometry-edit the call in the Poser Library file.

Okay, I did find out something, when I manually placed the files the first time I put them in a directory folder called Kozuburo, that is where some of his hair files are, when I added his wavy hair I thought I was suppose to put it there but I checked the cr2 and it is different, so the only thing I can think of is the spelling has to be exactly the same as the cr2 file states or it will not work. That is the best I could do. Hope this helps. Sharen

Thanks all, I have a few more avenues to try now, unfortunately mamma bear (CINC Household) says I have to come out of the cave now and be social with the inlaws. I'll work on this some more tomorrow. Markdc- New PInstall doesn't choke anymore, thank you yggdrasil-I'm working on a PC, so maybe it is the Mac folder (sad shrug), I tried the unzip to temp directory and copying over, unfortunately it didn't work Jaager- Your system sounds easy once you know what you're doing, one day I'll be there :) Sharen- Thanks for the time and effort, I'll lick it yet Down, but not out. Thanks again all jbear

OK, I don't know why people put that stupid icon thing/file in some download stuff. I have Powerdesk utilities, and it just can't handle that icon thing. My solution is to click on the zip file so I can see what's inside, and then delete the icon file from within the zip file. Then proceed as normal. Maybe we can educate folks that the icon file is poison?!
