Heyas, after a hard week with lots of work I returned yesterday evening to Vue to get this JPEG problem fixed (pls. see my previous post). Finally I made it somehow... I resave the needed JPEG maps using Graphic Converter. Afterwards Vue was able to open them with complaints. Seems a little strange to me anyway, because Poser opens the original files without any problems at all. If someone from e-on reads this post: Did you ever experienced something similar? I have another question about texturing Poser or other models in Vue: What kind of mapping should I use? Autimatical, flat (vertical),surfaces, cylindircal... I hope I used the correct translations since I use the German version of Vue. Again many thanks for your helping a Vue rookie! Phil

Hi Phil, For things using images as textures, you should usually have Automatic selected, when dealing with previously UV-mapped objects like Poser imports. It's also important that Object Space be selected insted of World Space. Remember that when you apply a texture in Vue to an imported object, the scale for Y neens to be set to negative 1 (Y=-1.00). Unless they fixed that in the Mac version. shrug. If your texture looks funny, try that, if you didn't know. Strange the problems with the image files..I dunno. ;)

Mike, I can't say "thankyou" enough for your help. I decided to finish this texturing thing of my "Proposal"-image by today evening. Altough it's a "pain in the ass" -please excuse this emotional release- I hope to get this done. Can't wait to have the great usabilty you PC users have with Vue. Anyway this might be the revenge of Bill Gates since I always talk bad about M$ and his head. lol Phil

LOL! Well, glad to help, and if you have any more problems, I'll be here all day, in and out.

Mike, forget to mention that the Y-prob seems to be fixed within the Mac version. You know I don't want to complain all the time. Usually that's not my attitude ;) You know, I'm just kinda unhappy to do all this remapping stuf which I hoped to leave behind after buying Vue. I'll keep you and the rest of the Vue gang updated with the results. :)

Yeah, I know what you mean. :( One way at least, if you have your certain textures you use often, you van save those as Vur .mat files, and when you want to use them again, well they're already set up, and all you have to do is load them. Vue doesn't create an internal texture or anything like that, though, so the texture will have to stay in whatever folder it's in, so if you use a "temporary" holding folder for the textures, remember that. Looking forward to seeing your project finished!

Mmm, i just made a try with a bump map on the PC version 4.03 and let Y=1 for scale... and it worked! with value of Y=-1 it is all screwed up! Isn't this Y=-1 thing for all kind of maps or only texture ones?! Anyway in this case i just added the bump maps in a poser scene i imported (textures already on), in case this is a special case :)

I'm getin' nuts!!! I'm in transparencies now. Used one of the transparency tuts which can be found under the tutorial section. It's very well described and very good to be understood. But Vue freezes as soon as I apply the transparency map and start to do some more changes within the trnsaprency menue. :((( But no I WILL NOT give up!!!

MikeJ ( ) posted Sun, 03 February 2002 at 11:14 AM

It freezes? Well, that's no good, to say the LEAST! How far can you get after applying the trans before the freeze? Just a guess, but try saving the material, closing the materiald editor, then opening it back up and then try the changes. Also, at looks as though the bump maps don't need the Y-1 thing. Maybe something to do with when they tried to make Vue import .BUM files (utterly ridiculous...I really don't understand why CL made the .BUM format...).

MikeJ ( ) posted Sun, 03 February 2002 at 11:41 AM

Hmmm...intersting thing I just discovered. While it was necessary to scale the texture and trans maps to Y-1 on an imported .obj, it diodn't matter on the bump texture I quickly made up. What's stranger is that it appeared to be backwards from what I had made. I don't mean as in the white/black invert thing, but literally on the wrong side of the face... I used the bmilwom.obj straight from my Zygote folder so I would know I had a "pure" object, so I knew Vue wasn't trying to apply textures or anything like that. Now, I gotta figure this bump thing out....

Oh yes, and of course, pink999, you pointed it out, so thanks!

Actually Vue doesn't seem to crash. Looks like it's "just" hanging. After the last one I got out to get something to eat and when I returned I could go on with my work. Strange thing! Hope someone from e-on reads this. could be of some use for the next beta update. ;o)

MikeJ ( ) posted Sun, 03 February 2002 at 12:31 PM

Well, that's cool...sort of. Vue's material editor WILL slow down, as you get more objects in you scene, with more complex materials. I'm hoping they speed it up one day. You said you were following a trans tut here. Just FYI, you can invert the trans map either by loading the "Invert" filter, or by clicking the little square to the above-right next to the preview in the trans function editor window. They just added that Invert button in Vue 4, and it doesn't seem to matter which way you do it now.
