Subject: Table cloth - free stuff... but need some UV help first

Having fun with modelling and texturing. And the table cloth and some other homely textiles might be coming in free stuff if I can get these problems solved. When I save the model out from UV-mapper, I now routinely check the box *Reverse winding order* because otherwise my model will be in-side-out. That is something that Amapi apparently does to the models, - so I have to turn them the right way in order to get the texture on the **outside** of the model and not on the inside. *lol* BUT the model looks funny. look at the cutout on the bottom right. I am using a transmap on the lace, so in order to see the table cloth at all, I have turned the element style to *Cartoon*. But this is how the model looks like when I import it into Poser. I can only see the far sides of the cloth.. not the whole thingy. The model takes the texture, so that seems to be OK. But what boxes should I check OUT of UV mapper and in Poser when I import? I don't want to put stuff in the free section unless it's correct. So I need to get this fixed first. :) Thanks in advance, Britt

looks really curios. When i export from uvmapper and import in poser , I let all the boxes as they are and it works without any problems.Only , as you say, sometimes reverse winding. I dont know if there is something to check that would solve your prob. What mapping mode did you use in uvmapper? I would choose the box in this case.

yeah! Curios is nicely put! lol What do you mean by mapping mode? I've mapped the table cloth as a box. Is that what you mean??

Whatever, this is going to be great when it is done, I really like it now....Sharen Hope you find your answer and we have to do that too, reverse winding order.

yes , thats what i meant.

Thank you, Sharen :) I'll keep trying. But It is really weird! lol I've modelled the cloth like a box with 4 sides, - and the corners in addition. Hmm.... ponder.

Maybe you should do a phi file instead and then convert the hiearchy.....look at my tutorial for a few instructions on it, it may help you out, that is how I do all mine. Even if it isn't poseable. Sharen

Hmm... that might be an idea, Sharen. I haven't thought of doing them that way! I'll try that. Thanks!

ive noticed the same thing when i modelled a basic 3 sided room prop as soon as i rotated the camera it went invisible could only see it when it rendered. it was box mapped. stu

One-sided polygons. I have the same issue with MilkShape.

Cybermonk ( ) posted Wed, 06 February 2002 at 4:52 PM

Sounds like you have a single sided object and your looking at the back face. Get 2 face converter (by Maz)from the free stuff. Uvmapper Pro will give you a double sided object as well.

Here is another example. And stu, you're right, if I change the camera angle it seems to help. But why is it doing this?? Britt

brittmccary ( ) posted Wed, 06 February 2002 at 5:04 PM

Cybermonk... How can I get UV mapper to give me that?? Britt

brittmccary ( ) posted Wed, 06 February 2002 at 5:27 PM

Thanks a lot, Cybermonk and Little Dragon! The 2 face converter solved the problem! :)) Still - can it be done in UV mapper?? And how? Britt

uvmapper pro will do it but its not out yet. Sorry I thought it was. I got a coppy early as as gift from my brother. He talked Steve Cox into it. I highly recomend getting UVmapper Pro. Its a fantastic program at a reasonable price.
