I've finally gotten around to trying my hand at texture templates. I'm using UV mapper, import an obj file, get things arranged, export, and this is what happens when I render in Poser4. When you see things on screen, all shows up well, when you sketch render all shows up well, however, when you render in normal mode, this happens, some faces show up black. This only happens when I export from UVmapper by Stephen Cox. When I import on obj from RDS or Rhino, things render ok. The problem is comming from UV mapper. If you can help me...pleeeeaaaasssseee. I'm begging you man (or woman), I'm begging you. Thanks, Davo

Try this:- Open the exported BMP from UV Mapper into Adobe Photoshop. Click Image/Mode and change from Indexed to RGB Color. I then save in TIF format (BMP may work but its my preference) I had a problem with exports from UV Mapper and this cured it,Hope this will do similar for you. Regards PhilC

It's a naughty worm. What you see has NO texture maps applied. This is rendered straight after import, import obj, adjust camera, render. Badabing Badaboom, this is what you get. If you have any other suggestions, I am all ears. Thanks, davo

I might not be able to help, but I may have the same problem:) What happens when you change the colour of the lights? Do the black patches change colour? I presume each segment of the worm consists of one group and one material only? Berge

In Poser, when setting the render color of a material (accesssed via the `Render' dropdown menu), for each material you must set the highlight color as well as the main color. Else, if you leave the highlight color as default black, then black highlights will result on the render.

Nope, that didn't fix it, but thanks anyway. It works fine on any other import except from UVMAPPER. SIGH. I hope I can resolve this. Thank you, Davo

Try this: Read the .OBJ file with a text editor. Look at all the vt lines, and check if any of the arguments in those lines are less than 0 or more than 1. Is there any chance that Davo could put that model's .OBJ file somewhere where I could download it and examine it?

Thanks for the help, and Traveler, I did e-mail Steve and I'm gonna send him the file to dink with. This portion of the object is planer mapping mode (side view). The missing portions seem to be on the point that would be closest towared me on screen, so I'm thinking maybe if I offset the origin of the mapping it'll cover those facets. Goin to try now. Davo

I get this at the point of booleans and to cure it I import back into cinema 4d and export remap it and they go away ...no idea why but it works LOL and its worth a try in rhino.........I think they are duff normals.....Posers fault I think I have loads of files that work fine in V3 but get this in 4.............Steve

Okay, here's what I think was going on - When UVMapper exports a file, it originally wrote five digits to the right of the decimal place. When the numbers get small, this can cause a significant loss of precision. I've changed it so that it now uses eight digits to the right of the decimal place. It will lead to somewhat larger files, but does fix this problem (I may make this an export option in the future.) My best guess is that Poser didn't like some of the facets because they became non-planar with the loss of precision. Anyway, the new version 0.23h is available now at: http://home.pb.net/~stevecox Please let me know if you have any problems with this new build - Cheers! stevecox@optonline.net

I just want to let you all know that Steve Cox fixed UVmapper and it works great!!!! No more blacked-out faces! Now I can work on wormy! Thank you Steve Cox. Davo
