Subject: UVMapper Pro Rules!!

bloodsong ( ) posted Mon, 18 February 2002 at 3:22 PM · edited Mon, 02 December 2024 at 4:35 AM

and steve cox is.... at least a minot deity! :) i was doing some head morphs in lightwave and they came out WRONG. because it ended up that i used compose to chop the head off the obj to stick into lightwave, and compose apparently messed up the vertex order. so i have these perfectly good morphs that dont work, that i DO NOT want to do all over again! then i thought, hey, i saw something in uvmpro.... reorder vertices! so i exported the head from poser as an obj, and loaded my messed up morph targets, and told uvmapper to reorder the vertices according to the proper obj. YES!!! they WORK!!!!! oh oh oh! totally saved me some time and agonizing rework! yeah, baby!!! well, i was happy, anyhow. totally killer tool in uvmpro. what a sanity saver!! :)

Minot, eh? I didn't know Steve was an Air Force man. Anyhow, cool to hear it. I remember that regular UV Mapper was also something you had to do before making Poser morphs in Anim8or. It has this knack of "fixing" OBJ files....

UVPro is an absolute must for any Rhino modeler too, with the selection adjustment features you can seperate out parts of the map that Rhino makes on it's own, and you can get some pretty awesome mapping with very little work :) + the zoom feature is woth the $50 IMHO :)

I SO WANT UVM Pro! Anyone want to buy me a present? I'm deserving. I'm female! Hey! I'm even kinda cute! OK... I'll put on a helmet and stand in a stone circle...

I only have the demo...gonna have to look inti it more. It would have been cool if he had allowed at least a limited number of saves. But then again, such heavyweights as Traveler and bloodsong endorsing it, it's gotta be great. :)

lol, strangechilde I'm in the same boat here, want it, don't have the extra funds to get it (where is that tax return check anyway)

I downloaded the demo, - worked with it, - and had to scrape my jaws off of the floor several times. I guess my drooling worked. lol I bought it the first day. I just LOVE how it works together with Photoshop (or any other graphical program) AND since Amapi does strange things (uh... it might be that I'm doing strange things in Amapi), UVMapper pro quickly straightens it out. I can't imagine being without it now. Britt

is it possible to get a seem guide for the models with it?

Lyrra ( ) posted Mon, 18 February 2002 at 5:38 PM

Well I already asked him to add batch file processing - so you can point it at a directory full of obj and it'll read off the uvmaps for ya. He says he'll think about adding that soon - but yeah, this is definatly on my must-buy list. After the propack and before Avatarlab. :) Lyrra

Aleks: While you can't hit a button and have a seam guide pop up, if you are in vertice selection mode, when you select a series of points, it will show you the corresponding points on the other side of the seam in green. So it will make doing the seam guides quicker.

Daio, I've got it running on VirtualPC98 on my G3. Steve said he would see about a way for us to swap our license to the Mac version when it's released. It really is a good app.

what's a minot?? okay, so i forgot the uvmapper url. for those who don't know it yet. you coulda at least posted the right one, mike ;) (YOU GOOF!) :) hey, did you know you can snap the points together? i was cylindrical mapping my legs, you know? and i wanted the paws to be flat mapped, so i chopped them off and did a flat map, then i 'sewed' them onto the cylindrical legs (all in the proper spot!). that was killer. :) its the weld thing. there's two weld things, one actually welds the obj vertices. (i think....) the other welds the selected uv points together. and with the rotate and all... just incredible. :)

Hey, this is INSANE - you mean I can see what my multilayer texture map in Pshop does on the actual model - in realtime??? Huh? I mean - that's like, so darn cool... Can it handle something complex like say a whole Vicki? jstro - a seam guide shows where the edges of say the back and front sides of a tex map meet - so you can get a piece of clothing to have sides that look right, for instance. :]FishNose

bloodsong ( ) posted Thu, 21 February 2002 at 4:13 PM

heyas; well, i wouldn't call it 'realtime.' you fix up a macro to copy all your layers, and uvmapper captures that and puts it on your model. hmmmm.... i haven't tried it with a multi-map figure. i dont think that would work, but i haven't poked into it.

i to was in love w/ uvmapper when i 1st started using it..... but try this........ ( steve dont kill me ) when using uvmapper, i was unable 2 move my "pieces" around. i could only use the map if i didnt resize parts or move them around........ i tried it w/ the 1st model (free 4 all in my freebies section ), and uvmapper couldnt do nuffin 4 me...... then i tried lithunwrap..... it takes and exports nearly all 3d formats, and it werks so sweet. you MUST try it...
