My writing partner didn't like any of the coms available and set me to building a better mousetrap last night. The set is wireless, and the mic sits at the side of the mouth instead of in front of it. He sent me a pic of a wired model with the modifications he wanted. This is what I've come up with. Thing is, now I'm not entirely sure how to make the thing useable. Each piece is parented so the whole assembly moves together. If I export as an OBJ, will it keep all separate parts as well as the reflections and transparencies? Is there anything I need to do to make sure that all of the parts are "remembered" when I load it up as an object?

Since they are all seperate parts . I would use the material editor the dotted sqare with a dot in it on your poser interface and then select each part and assign material then just give each part and new mat name (Mic,stem, housing, battery, ect) then close that window and then re-assign the textures to there parts. then export, and making sure you keep existing groups and maerials. then once saved you can import that new obj. when it loads it shoudl have the correct textures still just the wrong size. all you will need to do then is scale it. and save it as a prop. i would also save the pz3 just in case. then do a new document and bring the prop in from the prop library you saved it in and then a model and then parent it to the modle then save again under a different name . poser will ask if you want it to be a smart prop say yes and viola! a dumb prop and a smart prop,

Ooo! Got it! Thank you!

All right, when I export and them reimport it, all of the transparencies are getting lost, and none of the bump maps are transferring. Am I doing something wrong, or do I need to readd them, try to export again, or just wait until I save the blasted thing as a smart prop in a PP2?

no you'll have to re-apply all the textures and bumps and set the materials back to what they were origianlly. since there is a limit in what info gets tranfered to the export obj

You are an amazingly wonderful person. THANK YOU! Okay, prop one done and smart propped to Michael. Vicky is the next goal. Would anyone actually be interested in the completed com sets? Kinda nice to have finally created a reusable prop for the first time.

Hey ... I'd really appreciate it if someone with a Mac would DL this and let me know if it's Mac compatible. Pretty please?

Looks cool, I can use that. Did you think of making the mic arm bent instead of straight? So it curves in toward the mouth a little?

This was done as a custom job for my partner off a photograph he sent. The mic in question had a straight arm. I was sort of stuck in the position of needing to make it match his wishes for a toy. I'm probably going to rebuild it, with complete UV mapping as well and give a straight or curved option, antenna or no, different ear pieces, etc.

Crypto, I'll d/l it tonight and work with it on my Mac for you. It's a great looking piece, BTW.

Great, VS, please let me know. I honestly have no idea how files crossover for Poser between PC and Mac, and none of my buddies with Macs use Poser so I'm stuck between a rock and an apple place.

Crypto, we have a problem. When I try to d/l, it goes to about 36k and stops dead in its track. Just a heads up.

Urg. Keeping an eye on that now. I'm not having any trouble, and neither are the other two I sent to try to grab it. Dunno if it's a firewall problem, or a download limiter or what. Hrm. If anyone else has any problems getting the file, please let me know.
