Subject: Who would have liked something different for the Mystery Model

cherokee69 ( ) posted Sat, 09 March 2002 at 7:49 AM · edited Sat, 11 January 2025 at 5:42 PM

I for one would have liked the Mystery Model to have been something that Mike could have used like good clothing or hair. Not sure if we really needed another female figure that uses Mike morphs. We're goon end up seeing some really strange thing out of this and people could have used their time more wisely and made some nice clothing or hair for poor Mike, who is actually being neglected. If they aren't going to support Mike as much as they do the female figures, they might as well delete him from their store and called it "The Wonderful World of Vicky". I'm probably going to get bashed by this message, but you know, I don't really care if I do.

cwshorty ( ) posted Sat, 09 March 2002 at 8:06 AM

I really do understand how you feel, I was just playing with Stephanie now and wondering if anyone else was as disappointed as I was. Don't get me wrong, it's a nice character I guess, I haven't really decided how I feel about her yet, but clothes for Mike would have been great. Oh well....

cherokee69 ( ) posted Sat, 09 March 2002 at 8:11 AM

Yeah cwshorty, Stephanie is a disappointment unless your jaded by Vicky. I guess I have a voucher now that I can't use to get something for Mike.

ming ( ) posted Sat, 09 March 2002 at 8:15 AM

I wasn't disappointed at all! It's great!!

Well I'm pleased with her...I'm not one to look a gift horse in the mouth. Here's a quick head texture and face morph I made for her this morning...no body texture yet and the head still needs work, but I think she's cute. (probably partial though). :-) Thanks Daz!

My idea of rebooting is kicking somebody in the butt twice!

cherokee69 ( ) posted Sat, 09 March 2002 at 8:42 AM

Yeah rockets, but what good is she for Mike. He can't wear her as clothing or hair...I guess people don't really see what's going on...you either get something for free or have to buy it...then you have to buy body textures, clothing, hair.....the initial figure should at least come with ONE body texture and ONE hair style...seems like WE are loosing in the deal or at least or pocket book it. Something for Mike would have been much better

SWAM ( ) posted Sat, 09 March 2002 at 8:59 AM

she is not this bad, but I have problems with her lips. I am happy that the Mystery-Model was not a car... biggrins...Could give me somone a texture for her? I try to make my own texture - since 4 h - I will give up soon...

Little_Dragon ( ) posted Sat, 09 March 2002 at 8:59 AM

I too would have preferred something nonhuman, but I like Stephanie. Saves me from buying Victoria. I now have male and female Millennium figures, for the cost of one.

cherokee69, she can wear anything made for Victoria, clothes or hairstyles. If you don't own any commercial Victoria items yet, there's always Free Stuff. I do agree with you about textures, though.

cherokee69 ( ) posted Sat, 09 March 2002 at 9:04 AM

But Little Dragon, I don't care for Vicky...I use Mike in all my renders.....Vicky, Steph, all those clothes are totally useless for me and believe it or not, alot of other people that don't use the female figure.

rockets ( ) posted Sat, 09 March 2002 at 9:10 AM

I guess it's one of those "to each his own" type of things. I'm still learning how to make textures...the low res, hand painted type. The templates are free at Daz...just go get em.

My idea of rebooting is kicking somebody in the butt twice!

nikitacreed ( ) posted Sat, 09 March 2002 at 9:20 AM

I think she looks great! I especially think she looks a hell of alot more morphable and versatile than Vicky!! I think I'm gonna love her. ;o) I was just annoyed that I had to buy the texture map. LOL! but I'll survive. ;o)

JDexter ( ) posted Sat, 09 March 2002 at 9:20 AM

I have Mike, Vicki, Baby, and I am thrilled with Stephanie. SUre, I would have liked an animal, but I am sure Daz will have one someday, and I will be first in line to buy it. Now as for Stephanie, she's new, and she has a lot more potential than Vicki had (and Vicki was good) so give it some time, I think you will end up being thrilled with Steph as well. I am glad it's Saturday and raining, I have the whole day to work on Steph and see what I can do with her (besides put Mike textures on her I mean ;) )

Blackhearted ( ) posted Sat, 09 March 2002 at 9:23 AM

what i dont understand is this: if daz went to all the trouble to make this new model, with all new morphs, then WHY.. WHY did they make her look just like vicky? apart from minor differences in the structure of the face she looks exactly the same as vicky. and apart from the tricep and calf morphs, the muscular body morphs are totally unrealistic. ah well, im sure shell succeed because shes made by daz, and anything they put out people seem to accept as 'the norm'... but i think this may have just been another marketing ploy to boost sales of mike and to create a new, unsaturated texture market. she looks like a high-quality product, but damnit i just wish the time and effort put into this thing would have yielded something other than the spindly-legged, knobby-kneed, bloated-bellied, fake-breasted vicky clone body. i could cry when i think of the fact that all of the female clothing and armor on the market is made for the default vicky body. they could have made any body they wanted, and just added an update to the vicky morph clothing pack or the clothing pack 1 with new morphs for the clothes. im just sick of seeing vicky's nasty default body.. the whole point of a 'new figure' is to make something different, not rehash the same body with fewer morphs and even more unrealistic anatomy. bah im ranting. no doubt when i wake up and play around with stephanie ill like her more (some of those muscle morphs have wicked potential).. but i cant say that at the moment im 'overjoyed' or 'happy' or even 'satisfied' with this new model everyones been hyping so much. cheers, -gabriel

Marque ( ) posted Sat, 09 March 2002 at 9:29 AM

I can not believe this. You were given a high quality model and you complain. Thanks Daz. I love the new model. She doesn't look like Vickie yet she can wear her clothes. She doesn't look like Mike, but can muscle up like him. I think she is amazing, and I know how much work went into creating her for us. I would much rather have a new, different female model than an article of clothing for an old one. People are putting that stuff out more and more as they realize we like Mike as well as Vickie and there will soon be a LOT more for Mike, this I promise. Lips zipped. The only thing I would really like to see is the P4 version, after they've had a break, and for someone here to be their genius self and remap her to take Vickie's maps as well. Hint.....hint. 8^) Thank you everyone at Daz for all the sweat and hard work that went into creating her for us. Marque

Well, I try not to look at a gift horse in the mouth and yes she is unique and different BUT, I have dumped hundreds of dollars into Poser between Posette, Vicky and Michael. Now I have a figure that while she was free, and I do thank DAZ for that, she is also useless to me as far as textures go. Yes, she can use Mike but all my Mikes have hair. I am not one of the talented ones that can make textures so now I have to count on someone making texture for her and now I worry about the price of those textures. Mike and Vicky have textures going for 30.00 out there still even though anymore there are many textures to choose from. Since there are so many Stephanies out there what do you think the price of textures will be??? Yes, thank you DAZ and I really mean that because it was something you did not have to do. I will just have to try and work around it!

DaveF ( ) posted Sat, 09 March 2002 at 9:48 AM

I have to admit that I was also slightly let down by Stephanie. I knew that the MM was going to be a new female model when I purchased Millennium Teeth from Daz and viewed the pop-up pic. I was hoping more for an improved version of Vicky (i.e. Victoria 3?) that would have either utilized a more advanced geometry or included a greater selection of morphs or both. I have a feeling that this model won't do as well as Daz3D is hoping he/she will. Hey, it was free and the standard res texture was only $13 as of this post. I certainly wouldn't have paid for this model if that were my only option. As for greater support for Michael (i.e. clothes, hair &tc.), I also agree that it would have been more desirable. However, I'm not surprised. Barbie always did have a ton more stuff than Ken, and my wife inhabits far more closet real estate than I do. I think it's just a reflection of our society.

OK, so let's see..the was FREE....so, if someone gives you a dead horse for FREE, you'd be equally delighted...I don't think so. For many, Steph isn't that dead horse, but you have to consider all the people that don't use the female figure (unless your biased and jaded)...she is that dead horse.

cherokee, I too was really hoping there was something new for Mike. When I found out it was a new female model I then started praying it would be able to wear Vicki's clothes. Little did I know I wouldn't have textures for it :-(

Perhaps I think differently than the others, but I am perfectly happy how this turned out (though I haven't picked her up just yet). My thoughts are, I prefer she be able to wear Vicky stuff (because I don't have to re-invest all the money I already spent). Her face is very different from Vicky's which is a huge improvement (diversity is a great thing). I use these figures as characters in scenes. Even with extensive work, vicky based figures look related (like sisters or cousins, just take a look at all of the characters available here at the MarketPlace). Now we can have a very different looking person. I find vicky 2 very easy to make more realistic. Just tug those x and y axis dials down (or up) a bit and tweak some of those morphs. She can look much more natural, than you would expect. As for other possibilities for what it could have been (the mystery model, that is), there were a million possible avenues they could have explored, but this is what they chose. Who knows why they decided to release for free. We should be greatful for that, however. I too agree, I would like to see a P4 verison. When you are clothing these figures, it really doesn't matter what the body looks like underneath, now does it? And the free stuff available for P4 fem are huge in number (I wonder if the same will be true for vicky in a few months) It is true that michael has a more limited supply of accessories, but he is a guy. He has about as much variety in is virtual closet as I do ;) (probably more). Does anyone think that these mil P4 might be licensed to Curious Labs as the standard Poser 5 figures? It seems like it would be an excellent marketing strategy for DAZ. Every copy sold by C.L. would be an ad for the mil figures by saying "If you like the level of detail from these heads, go get the whole figure...". Plus, I think they are a big improvement on the standard poser figures (at least a huge step up for the Dork). I actually think there are P4 females that are "Prettier" than any I have seen for vicky (mostly due to the round face, which I am partial to....vicky's is so angular, even with the standard morphs) Just my thoughts, Eric

cherokee69 ( ) posted Sat, 09 March 2002 at 10:09 AM

Marque, "So if she had been a different male model would you have been happier?"....no, not at all...with all the textures and morphs available, a new model is pointless other than to create a new market for thing to fit the new model. Same with Steph. I have not mentioned a new model for Michael anywhere in this thread...I've been talking about accessories, clothing and hair.

jaybutton ( ) posted Sat, 09 March 2002 at 10:22 AM

I am very happy with Stephanie. There are all kinds of things that I can do with Stephanie that I wasn't able to do with Vicky. For one thing I can create new races/monsters that look similiar in both genders because I can pass the morphs between Mike and Steph. Also, I think it will be easy to make characters that look like they're part of the same family because they can share the same texture maps. (I know the nipples and pubic areas don't line up, but I don't do nudes, so it doesn't matter). Lastly, I heard the last time DAZ did something like this what everyone got was a camel. A CAMEL! Steph is a thousand times better than a camel! Like I said I am happy with Stephanie. :) Jay

Strangechilde ( ) posted Sat, 09 March 2002 at 10:29 AM

Well, I would have been happier with a new male model, given that I don't use female models all that much, and certainly would have liked something Mike could use, as I use Mike most of all and don't have that much stuff for him. I do like Stephanie, but I have to throw in my shard with those who think we have enough femininity already. But naked boobs is naked boobs, I suppose. Now the TEETH, that's a satisfying model. :)

MikeJ ( ) posted Sat, 09 March 2002 at 10:30 AM

I have no problems with Stephanie, and free is free after all. If I had paid for the model, I'd be disappointed with it, but I didn't. In any event, I doubt I'll even be using it, but who knows. I do agree though that a clothing item or package would have been far more of a "reward" for the M2 purchase, and if they were going to give us a free character, a free texture to go with it would have been cool. I figure they're counting on all us freeloaders to run out and buy the texture that actually fits now. ;)

Blackhearted ( ) posted Sat, 09 March 2002 at 10:41 AM

"Her face is very different from Vicky's which is a huge improvement " maybe its just me.. but they look too much the same to me. she looks very much like vicky 1.0. i would have much preferred if they invested the time in a new model (or upgrade, or other solution) that solves the joint problems inherant in vicky and mike models. and im sorry, say what you will, but stephanie still doesnt look natural when you raise her arms above her head. her knees and hips still pop if you bend them too much, etc etc. i didnt say she was bad.. just that i was expecting more. im sure after a week of playing with her, and after some decent textures are released, ill like her a lot more. but she just looks too much like vicky to me. i think a new model, or a modified mike or vicky mesh, with different proportions would have been nice. you can morph vicky all day but she still retains the same proportions. the only way to change them slightly is to scale her body parts, but then you get even more joint anomalies when you bend her. another thing that bothers me about vicky/stephanie is that you cant raise her breasts. the distance between her collarbone and the top of her breasts is always the same no matter what you morph, and much too long for my tastes. the 'breast raise' morphs just take the top of her cleavage and pull it up, the bottom of the breast stays where it was. so no matter what you do with them, theyll always retain the same basic form. what id like to see is a totally new millennium model, one that adheres to daz's high quality standards and high amount of support/accessories... but one with a different look that vicky, a different face, and different body proportions. say what you will about stephanie looking 'totally different' from vicky, i dont buy it. cheers, -gabriel

With some dial tweaking I can stand Stephanie. The texture map situation is annoying, but hopefully a talented person will remap her to take Vicki's textures. I will find her useful for warrior types, and since I do a lot of fantasy type pictures she should be useful for that. I am hoping that their experience with making this model will make victoria 3 a better model.

MikeJ ( ) posted Sat, 09 March 2002 at 10:42 AM

Before I get misinterpreted, I'm not disappointed with the model itself. It's definitely of a good quality. Just disappointed in what I view in terms of usefulness to myself. But, variety never hurts, and things like this help to keep the Poser market healthy. I'm sure there are all kinds of new textures being developed as I type this. Some will be free, some won't.

Blackhearted ( ) posted Sat, 09 March 2002 at 10:46 AM

MikeJ - if theres one thing ive learned in my time here, its that nothing in this world is ever really 'free'. first off, you pay for her when you buy mike2. second, there are some quite heavy strings attached. and since even posette can be remapped to accept vicky maps quite well.. i wonder why stephanie wasnt remapped to accept vicky maps, and whether or not this was intentional. i dont think it would have been that difficult, and i know that the first ambitious developer who does this will probably be very successful. i for one would rather pay $20 for a remapped stephanie than start collecting goddamn female textures again.

MikeJ ( ) posted Sat, 09 March 2002 at 10:54 AM

"... whether or not this was intentional." I feel pretty safe in saying it probably was intentional. Very intentional. kieraw and Marque, those look great. I guess I'm gonna have to mess around with this model some before writing "her" off...

DCArt ( ) posted Sat, 09 March 2002 at 11:06 AM

I like Stephanie's face, and her body just seems MUCH more realistic to me. With the ability to use Mike's morphs, it only makes her that much more versatile than Vicky. As for her lack of textures, I guarantee that there will be a wealth of them before you know it. Personally, if I had the choice between the new model being able to wear existing clothes or being able to use existing textures, I'd choose the clothes. Textures are a darned site easier to create. I think DAZ was very generous with their gift. Thank you, DAZ!

Chailynne ( ) posted Sat, 09 March 2002 at 11:15 AM

I was disappointed when it was first announced and we got glimpses of her but after downloading her and playing with her face last night, I like her. :o) I'm very glad she uses Vicki clothes. But I'm not looking forward to buying new texture maps again. I really hope someone remaps her.

I like Daz's stuff and since I only have Vicki1 and Mike2 I'll appreciate the addition to my Daz people. My only complaint is having to buy the low res textures separately. I understand charging for the high res but the characters really should come with at least one texture.
